Is Queen Camilla more poorly than we think?

She wasn’t well enough to attend the Remembrance Service. Now it’s been confirmed that she will not be going to the Royal Variety Performance tonight. (Not that I blame her, I’d duck it too if it was on my itinerary). However these engagements are 3 weeks apart. It got me wondering. I hope she’s okay.

I'm not a royalist butI think Camilla is a wonderful force of nature & very attractive. However, don't forget that she will be receiving the very best of healthcare & be toasty warm too, unlike the rest of us poor Plebs who just pay the taxes & get sub-standard healthcare & can't afford to heat our homes properly. Open your eyes people, don't believe all the spiel.😬

Agree with you, I am not Royalist, I think about our island being invaded in 1066 and with a few twists and turns the rf are descended from the Conqueror. That said I don't like to think of anyone being ill. You are right about comfort, I wish I could have a warm home without worrying about the cost instead of being wrapped in a dressing gown and fleece blankets. When I read about how the Duchy of Lancaster charges the NHS, RNLI and charities to use "his" land I was horrified, no person needs ALL that money, most folk would be happy with a lot less - nice home, warmth in Winter and food in the cupboard.

Thanks, Iam.I’ll be a bit sore for a few days but otherwise all OK.

Iam64 Thu 05-Dec-24 14:06:53

Hope your soon recovered merlotgran.
Thanks for your comment about it being luck of the draw as to the impact of smoking on health. I hasten to say I’m not advocating smoking, or suggesting it isn’t a Bad Thing. But some people are more affected than others

MissAdventure Thu 05-Dec-24 10:52:54

Yes, you're right.
She is, in fact, fagless.

Apologies, your Maj.

MissAdventure Thu 05-Dec-24 10:44:21

I enlarged it, just to check I could see one, and I could, but I really don't care unduly.
Why do I put myself into these discussions?

X post

It's the horizontal pattern on her dress, not a fag!

merlotgran Thu 05-Dec-24 10:42:51

I thought it was the pattern on her dress. 😂

merlotgran Thu 05-Dec-24 10:40:14

MissAdventure

She has a fag on the go. smile
Hope you're on the mend now.

Thanks.

I enlarged it but couldn’t see the fag. I’ll have another butcher’s.

Sorry if I’m being thick, MissA but I’m just out of hospital and a bit zonked on painkillers so can you please explain the reason for the photo.

I love that Burberry mac!!

MissAdventure Thu 05-Dec-24 10:24:53

Let's see...

I’ve only ever seen one picture of Camilla smoking - on a horse while out with the hunt.

Recently there was a documentary about her and one of her friends said Camilla used to smoke heavily when she was a smart girl about town! Prince Charles, as he was then, persuaded her to give up when they got together.

I think it’s pot luck whether or not your lungs are permanently damaged from smoking as a young adult. Some get away with it, some don’t.

Anniebach Thu 05-Dec-24 10:17:22

So she definitely was a heavy smoker and gave up 20 years ago

MissAdventure Thu 05-Dec-24 10:14:16

There really are plenty, but I seem to have lost the ability to post them.

Not that it matters - its not illegal, good on her, if she enjoys a smoke, but it does take a toll on your health.
That's why I gave up; I'd have s cough from Oct to April most years.

Anniebach Thu 05-Dec-24 10:11:03

Thanks, I never saw one

MissAdventure Thu 05-Dec-24 10:09:02

There are plenty of pictures online.
On a horse - with a fag, even.

Anniebach Thu 05-Dec-24 09:55:52

The papers spoke of Camilla smoking, or being a heavy smoker, of giving up smoking. I cannot recall any interview with someone who knew her 20 years ago or know her now,
she has never given an interview about her lifestyle

Davisuz Thu 05-Dec-24 09:40:50

She may have given up smoking twenty years ago but sadly the years when she did smoke will have had a significant impact. A colleague's husband has been seriously ill with chest infections this autumn and he too stopped smoking almost seventeen years ago. The GP said the damage was 'already done' and he is now being tested for COPD. Here's hoping they both recover fully in time for Christmas!

I suspect not many of us are as robust as we used to be. Post Covid there seem to have been awful bugs
Additionally we are exposed to chemicals in all areas of our lives, as reflected by the increase in cancers.

Nannan2 Thu 05-Dec-24 02:43:39

* I donk think

Nannan2 Thu 05-Dec-24 02:43:06

I dont the Royals are as 'robust' as they used to be- maybe all the shaking hands with all & sundry does'nt help.Should have just not returned to that since after covid times(its still out there, as are loads of other bugs)None of the 'next generations' of Royals seem as hardy as Queen Elizabeth was.

Pumpkinpie Thu 05-Dec-24 02:03:27

Queen ! Mmmm never .
