I'm on the SE coast and whilst we weren't expecting quite so much of a battering as other parts of the country, the outlook was pretty grim for the whole weekend.
Fb was full of notifications of cancelled Christmas events, and efforts of organisers to try and move everything into an indoor space if there were any available. I know how much time and effort goes into organising these events and I felt so sorry for all those volunteers.
Yesterday was a bit wet and blowy, but nothing that would have prevented you going out. Today is lovely, the sun is shining and there's barely a breeze. Lots of blue sky.
The BBC weather forecast now tells me it's going to be like this all day - despite right up until late yesterday afternoon showing heavy rain all day and strong winds.
I accept that weather forecasting isn't an exact science but how can they get it SO wrong? All those events cancelled for no reason.

There can't be many jobs where you can get paid vast amounts of money to get things so wrong.

Here in the South West the wind and rain forecast has been very accurate. We’d be very happy if it hadn’t been, incredibly rough out there. I do understand the frustration around needlessly cancelled events though.
I blame mother nature- not the forecasters. I think in a world where we think we have an illusion of 'control' I find it refershing that we still have no 'control' over the weather or its whims.
I’ve never rated the BBC forecasts, I use AccuWeather who are generally spot on.
Do not start me on this ssubject. The day I see a weather forecasr that gets it right, I will probably die of shock.
I have just read the forecast for this week in The Telegraph. Apparently by the end of this week our weather will either be dominated by low pressure, or high pressure.

Yesterday got worse and the wind and rain battering on the window woke me up this morning.
The wind's died down now but it's still raining and dark.

The South/South-West forecasts have been pretty accurate, from snow to sunshine to storms, rainfall and tearing winds.
Still pouring rain, glad i live many feet above sea-level, despite the extra wind.

It's still raining, very breezy and dark out there.
I've heard a number of forecasters say that it is almost impossible to accurately forecast more than a few hours in advance. All it takes is for the wind to suddenly veer or drop and people who weren't expecting it get drenched or flooded while those who prepared get very little.
I’m 10 miles inland from the Dorset coast and the BBC weather app has been accurate. Storm Bert, preceded by snow and ice, has lived up to expectations. It looks a though the wind is calming down a bit, but we still have heavy rain, as forecast.
ferry23: weather forecasting and clairvoyancy/fortune-telling are the two certain professions I can think of that you can't possibly sue for giving misleading information because they are essentially unpredictable. They inhabit worlds that may/may not exist and can be neither proved nor disproved.
Both jobs involve conjuring up a load of waffly hot-air and getting paid for it.
Well they were spot on here! Luckily outdoor christmas markets were cancelled so folk were safe. Christmas light switch on celebrations were cancelled too. RNLI were issuing warnings so coastal areas were avoided. Further up towards the hills which attracts many hillwalkers the snow was deep visibility poor so Mountain Rescue groups werent put at risk.. The rivers in local town caused flooding of car parks but cars had been moved. The weather warnings were on the whole heeded.

Yes, there were warnings here which have proved to be correct.
A river running down a road which we travelled on Friday in bright sunshine, which is on high ground away from rivers.
Water pouring down roads like rivers.
A town centre not far away having to be evacuated due to the High Street being flooded - I've never heard of that happening there before.

I was making an observation about the forecasting and my surprise that it was so wrong for this region. That's all. Not wishing bad fortune to others.
Well, our forecast was fairly accurate. We had heavy snow in the early hours of Saturday morning, which persisted til mid day and then turned to rain. Snow had all gone by this morning, just as forecast (BBC) .
Today has been very mild with light wind, as forecast, and tomorrow we are expecting winds of up to 50mph over the morning, dying down at lunch time. I

We had snow, when we were told we would't have it, and today, DS living 200 miles away had no snow, when the whole family had hunkered down ready for a snowy day.
Storm Bert was meant to come through at its worst yesterday, if fact it didn't come through aat its worst until today.
There was one day a year or two back when the forecast told me that were in bright sunshine that would last all morning and it was actually tipping down with rain, an proceded to do so for the next 2 hours.
