For anyone unhappy at the current government there is a petition available to sign. When I signed it last night there were 170k signatures - to say it's gathered pace is an understatement as it now stands at well over one million signatures.

Of course Elon Musk now gets the go-ahead for more poisonous invective. Be careful who you invite to the party.

he's called out country tyrannical police state* and has used his platform to boost the petition.

I'm disgusted - keep your nose out, Musk. How can people be happy with this?

(our usual grumble is there aren't enough police, and unlike the USA, we have an independent judiciary)

👏👏👏👏👏

I’d sign it. I think Starmer is dreadful. A real and decent Labour government would be good. One that kept promises and didn’t promote liars.

👍🏻

some people really need to please get their adult heads back on

That’s life isn’t it Cossy, we don’t agree with everything our parents chikdren work colleagues etc etc do either.
I’d vote Labour again tomorrow. The alternatives don’t bare thinking about

Absolutely! This is simply life, life is neither perfect nor fair but the though another Tory govt, or even worse Reform, makes me feel 🤮🤮🤮

Cossy Mon 25-Nov-24 18:54:02

TopGunner, I absolutely see why some people are angry, but can you be more specific about Starmer’s lies please.

Blinko Mon 25-Nov-24 18:53:59

Wasn’t the LP Manifesto laying out what would be achieved over the next five years not the first five months? So why all the sound and fury over a period in which obviously no huge change for the better is likely to occur. First, the decks need clearing and the groundwork built. And some of it is going to be difficult/unpopular.

Some people really need to please get their adult heads on.

Only 20 per cent of people voted for this tyrannical government, but they have gone back on their word and lied to us all so they are not fit for purpose!

No 33.7% Where do you find your facts?

Iam64 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:51:39

And - I’ve got an ear worm of I never promised you a rose garden - Starmer ciukdnt have been clearer during the campaign about the gloom we were facing. He was right except it’s worse than anticipated.

80% didn’t vote for this Government - ok that’s their fault you could say and they only have themselves to blame. Most were so sick of a lying inept conservative Government so they didn’t vote and Labour got in by default. I don’t think anyone really wants the Conservatives back as they haven’t changed. Starmer’s popularity rating has plummeted and he will soon be on a par with Prince Harry if he isn’t already. If the petition makes this Government sit up and think and stop picking on pensioners and the farmers amongst others then maybe it will serve a useful purpose, but somehow I doubt it.

33.7% voted for Labour - not the 20% that you imply

I didn't vote Labour and have never voted Tory. I could not vote for Reform even if my life depended on it. But I was certainly sick of the Tories who more and more appeared to be devoid of any idea of who the ordinary working people were or what problems they faced, and our only feasible alternative to them was Labour. It is a great shame that their first budget has appeared to attack the the working people via the back door (employers' NI for example) and then pensioners with a complete lack of notification to enable them to take any action to protect themselves.

But it is far too soon for us all to write off the new government so please lets all let them get on with it and hope that they return to their traditional values asap and give us all a bit more hope for the future.

Surely another GE so soon will be very costly and likely not result in any change of government unless Farage has something more attractive up his sleeve. Not that I would trust him with a bargepole.

👏👏👏

Cossy Mon 25-Nov-24 18:47:51

Honestly, TopGunner show me a govt that does 100% of what it promises?

As for being liars, that pretty rich considering Johnson and his lies and rule breaking.

As others have said very succinctly some of us had to be told time and time again to “suck it up, buttercup” across the last 14 years.

I voted Labour, I would do so again! Do I agree with all they’ve done thus far and the way in which they’ve done it? Absolutely not!

Iam64 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:47:44

Ok I don’t see Starmer as a liar.
Cameron, /johnson, Truss all ace liars.

Thanks foxie48. It’s total tollacks, as mr I would undoubtedly said. We have a fair Democratic election. People who were devastated when Labour won have been winding themselves up into a fury ever since. Goodness knows how they’d respond if there was a real crisis

It wasn't a fair election because Starmer lied in his manifesto or don't you understand that. If he had told the country what he was going to do then there is not a cat on hell's chance they would have been elected.

Name a previous government which did exactly what it said it would do in its manifesto in its first budget TopGunner if you want that argument to have any credibility.

There seem to be very short memories of what a mess we were in before the last General Election. A lot of the measures needing to be taken now are because of the problems which were left by the previous Government .

So why didn't starmer say this in his manifesto, why did he lie and say he was not going to do this, that and the other and when he was elected, he did the opposite, he is not fit to be Prime Minister, he is a liar.

What a load of rubbish- we just had an election! Labour won a massive majority, get over it.

20% is not a massive majority and they would never have been elected if they had told the truth about what they were going to do, they got in by lying and that should not be allowed. What good is a manifesto if they do a U turn after they win.

They should never have won, liars the lot of them. I hope they all crumble and have to resign.

TopGunner Mon 25-Nov-24 18:38:10

What people are angry about is that the Labour party won the election under false pretences. They lied about every thing. They promised they would not do such a lot of things and that is what they won the election for then afterwards, they did the exact opposite. You can watch all the pre-election speeches on many TV stations and then compare them with what they have done.

I signed the petition and I know it won't cause a new General election but if more people vote then perhaps we might get a government, if that is possible, who do what they promised to do. This will be a lesson to all future governments, don't mess with the people of Great Britain, we can make things very hard for you all.

If they had told the truth in their manifesto, Labour would never, ever have been elected.

foxie48 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:31:23

It's a total load of nonsense started by a billionaire in wealth management, stirred by Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and the petition is being signed by people who must think they care about UK citizens more than Keir Starmer. The only person who can call an election is the Prime Minister and I don't think for a second that he will take any notice of this ridiculous petition. Honestly folks, just grow up and accept a democratic decision, Labour won a fair election and have a five year term.

And the number of times Remainers were told to put up and shut up , because the vote had been done democratically .........

Absolutely true, but at least we tried to Remain, because we voted.
Brexit only happened because more people voted leave.
Bad enough being told to put up and shut up, but where were all those people who knew Brexit would be bad for the UK, but did nothing?

Jeanathome Mon 25-Nov-24 17:24:01

how on earth can anybody support Farage et al? What are their policies? Other than blaming everything on migrants

You have a very, very long wait ahead of you.
