For anyone unhappy at the current government there is a petition available to sign. When I signed it last night there were 170k signatures - to say it's gathered pace is an understatement as it now stands at well over one million signatures.

What a load of rubbish- we just had an election! Labour won a massive majority, get over it.

A lot of people who voted labour are now regretting it!

Which is the norm after every election. There’s nothing unique about this government’s ratings. It happened to Blair, it happened to Thatcher. All the hype is not going to alter anything, as the government is getting on with its job regardless - as they always do.

I can’t see the point of another election.

I might think the LP are self seeking and two faced, but that’s any government.
My objection to another election would be
waste of money
no one else ready to govern (it took the LP 14 years and 3 elections and they’re still getting their act together)
endless politics promises on all channels on the media

Not sure about the last sentence.
. . . want to overturn a democratically elected government
Trumpian
Is it implying that Starmer is a convicted felon?

Irrelevant- they have 4 years, legally and democratically.

And the Tories had 14 years to get us in this diabolical mess.

& the labour government before them

It’s the speed of people signing that’s amazing

ronib Sun 24-Nov-24 22:05:18

It’s on Twitter….. approaching 1.7 million. Won’t make any difference. The government has cloth ears.

harrigran Sun 24-Nov-24 22:13:55

The number of people signing proves there is great dissatisfaction in the way this country is being run at present. I reckon they will have two million signatures by the end of the day.

^Yep, same as for Brexit^

Absolutely Fleurpepper! Perhaps it’s time to start a petition for a second EU Referendum!

Oooh yes please!

Oh right. An election and an election campaign would really help with all the problems the country is currently facing shock
Bonkers, just bonkers…

Casdon Sun 24-Nov-24 22:29:41

It actually proves nothing. 4 million people voted for Reform in the election in July. Who do people think are now signing this petition, which is endorsed by Nigel Farage? It will have no impact, why would it?

Louella12 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:34:17

Obviously there will be no election, thank goodness, but it may well be slightly uncomfortable for Starmer.

Three of my labour friends have just signed it 😊

eazybee Sun 24-Nov-24 22:51:13

This is the result of tactical voting. Too many people voted Labour to remove the Tories without thinking who they were replacing them with, so many newly elected MPs do not have the support of their constituents, or belief in their policies.

I admit to being surprised at the mess Labour's front bench has made so far, with their huge majority that can pass any Bill they wish. They are treating the electorate with contempt, and some of their MPs who do not vote as their Leader tells them to, hence this petition, which will achieve nothing, but is a sad indictment of Labour which they will ignore at their peril.

25Avalon Sun 24-Nov-24 22:53:57

80% didn’t vote for this Government - ok that’s their fault you could say and they only have themselves to blame. Most were so sick of a lying inept conservative Government so they didn’t vote and Labour got in by default. I don’t think anyone really wants the Conservatives back as they haven’t changed. Starmer’s popularity rating has plummeted and he will soon be on a par with Prince Harry if he isn’t already. If the petition makes this Government sit up and think and stop picking on pensioners and the farmers amongst others then maybe it will serve a useful purpose, but somehow I doubt it.

MayBee70 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:54:30

So what, exactly would Badenoch or Farage be doing now that would be better?

ronib Sun 24-Nov-24 22:56:40

MayBee70 Farage apparently has a very good relationship with Trump so trade deals probably? Badenoch is really not very smart.

MayBee70 Sun 24-Nov-24 23:01:12

Oh yes. They’re besties aren’t they. Can’t wait for chlorinated chicken etc. Strange how people didn’t want to deal with those nasty EU people but are happy to cosy up to the convicted felon, misogynistic climate crisis denying new president.

ronib Sun 24-Nov-24 23:04:51

I don’t think Starmer has any choice in the matter MayBee70

So you keep spouting

LizzieDrip Sun 24-Nov-24 23:50:49

If Farage ever came anywhere close to leading this country (God help us all) he would very quickly realise there’s a lot more to it than trade deals with his bestie!

He would probably cr** himself!

LizzieDrip Mon 25-Nov-24 00:03:28

I would imagine at least 4 million will sign the petition - all those who voted Reform and have now thrown their dummies out of the pram.

Wyllow3 Mon 25-Nov-24 00:19:24

Why ask for a GE - non specific grumbles - which will get no-where - as opposed to a petition that actually asks for some key points of concern?

DiamondLily Mon 25-Nov-24 06:55:12

Labour, so far, have been a disappointment.. But, the other lot were a disappointment for 14 years - so I can’t see what a new election could achieve. 🤷‍♀️

Realistically, our governments will always be Tory or Labour. The other parties are just protests, and none of them look capable of governing anyway.

So, I guess we’ll just have to see how the next four years pan out.

There seem to be very short memories of what a mess we were in before the last General Election. A lot of the measures needing to be taken now are because of the problems which were left by the previous Government .

Really, money laid by for projects in planning under the Conservatives, well it's become a a bigger mess under Labour, massive pay rises to already very well paid train drivers. The Dr's yes, but they're going on strike again in January, they now know they can hold the Gov to ransom. Billions to Africa, one of the first things they did, not necessary, while in the meantime helping destroy family farms and eventually our food supplies, whilst encouraging cheap tasteless imports from abroad. Taking money from people who were born here, and helped to build this country, many of them now feeling the cold,. Asylum bill rising exponentially, these people are so happy Labour are in, they said so in Calais, no disincentive now , is there. If you think this is a good thing, there is no hope for this country under a Labour Government.
