It's been all over the media.

He's said he's "use the army". How? How will the military view this? Where is he going to take people?

The control of the instrument of force, i.e the armed forces, has always been the very foundation of power. Once a government loses control of the army their power is lost. (The army frequently takes over and can be ten times worse...)

It will be interesting to see how the US army reacts to being told to enforce policies requiring extreme force..

This is what is claiming are on "mass deportation beginning on day 1"
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/18/trump-military-mass-deportation

"Experts and advocates say a deportation campaign on the scale Trump has outlined would raise legal and logistical challenges, not to mention the soaring costs and infrastructure needed to detail and deport millions of people, many of whom have lived in the country for at least a decade, contribute to the workforce and share a household with US citizen family members.

Trump and Miller have described plans to federalize state national guard personnel and deploy them for immigration enforcement, including sending troops from friendly Republican-governed states into neighboring states with governors who decline to participate. Miller has also advocated for building large-scale detention “camps” and tents"

Reminiscent of the power of medieval monarchs.

I think his policy on I think he said 1 million - what is broadly "undocumented" (but different categories) is going to both cause a lot of fear and tearing families apart, will meet serious legal challenges,

and perhaps even more significant, so many businesses rely on cheap "undocumented" labour.

He's said he's "use the army". How? How will the military view this? Where is he going to take people?

I've never understood how a convicted criminal could run for president. Then once he is president pardon himself. Probably the main reason he wanted to be President was so he could pardon himself, otherwise he would probably have gone to jail. Plus he has other plans for the USA as well, which could end up affecting us in the UK. The saving grace is that Trump is a halfwit, and he may end up getting things wrong. Such as his tariffs scheme.

Grounds for impeachment include abuse of power, corruption, negligence in constitutional duties, or actions resulting in loss of public trust.

American justice has always been a joke. Look at Michael Jackson and OJ Simpson especially.

Sad thing is we are not much better here either...it's all about the money and protecting the privilege- look at the PO debacle.

You are not wrong ! Isn’t too good where I live, either. We have just allowed a female viscious murderess to have IVF whilst she is still serving her sentence. At taxpayer’s expense of course. You wouldn’t read about it.

Fartooold Wed 27-Nov-24 10:21:20

Oh I am so pleased he has got away with it 🤬

Trying to find out about the cases where he was convicted, found this

"Trump’s eminent return to the White House has left the state-level criminal cases against him in limbo, too.

His sentencing for his criminal conviction in the state of New York, related to the Stormy Daniels payment, has been indefinitely delayed. (BBC)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gvd7kxxj5o

Power corrupts.

Thirty-four felony convictions. Charges of fraud, election subversion, and obstruction.

Gone.

Unfortunately, we have to reap what they sow as well. There will be a worldwide impact.

Cossy Wed 27-Nov-24 09:41:56

It’s simply a joke! IMO he shouldn’t have been allowed to run, but then again it’s not my country so let them reap what they sow!

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 27-Nov-24 09:37:26

Who would have thought it?!

nanna8 Wed 27-Nov-24 08:56:19

You can’t have a crim for a President. I think it was totally expected. Not being an American I am not very familiar with or really know the two sides and who is telling the truth.

Seems to be related only to the mishandling of government documents at Mar-o-laga? (at this stage)

www.cbsnews.com/news/special-counsel-jack-smith-end-bid-to-revive-trump-documents-case/

But Trump has made no secret that he intends to change the justice system to make judicial appointments political ones.

"Should the disclosure of Smith's findings stall and be delayed into the Trump administration, the odds of its release become increasingly slim as the president-elect has said he intends to nominate many of his top defense attorneys to leadership roles within the Justice Department.

Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who defended Trump in the two federal cases and in New York, are set to serve as deputy attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general respectively, two powerful posts within the Justice Department.

Trump has said he will nominate former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for the top job as attorney general. "

It appears the United States Prosecutor, Jack Smith, has ordered that all charges against Donald Trump be dropped.
Donald Trump had announced his intention to sack Jack Smith as soon as he was sworn in as President.
The one surprising feature of this matter is that it seemed worthy of only page 30 of my newspaper this morning.
