Gosh, that's a surprise!

We always had TyPhoo until I discovered Ringtons and that was the end of my relationship with TyPhoo.

It is sad to see another company going. Maybe not so surprising though.

I tend to drink more coffee than tea and I generally buy a supermarket own brand 'extra strong' variety - so much cheaper than the branded teabags.

I prefer Yorkshire tea.. but it is sad to see this company becoming defunct..

Well my Dad drank nothing but Typhoo tea all his life. He died about two years ago....

Ditto my dad. He died three years ago. Have we stumbled on the reason for Typhoo’s demise?

😁 Very possibly. There was never any coffee in our house when we were growing up.

One of my brothers got a hankering for Camp coffee when he was a teenager but other than that we only drank tea. I don't think I had coffee until I moved to London, simply because I was used to drinking tea. Now we all drink coffee, just DM left to keep Typhoo going but obviously isn't drinking enough tea.

I think there are a number of reasons. The increasing popularity of coffee, especially among the young, must have led to a decrease in tea drinking.
Also, the popularity of ‘own brand’ tea sold by the supermarkets must have had an effect.

Typhoo was a staple in our house growing up. Tea was never my favourite drink and now I drink rooibos if I drink tea at all, but it’s sad to see these old favourite brands disappearing.

Used to drink Typhoo, but the taste changed years ago, leaves and bags. But sad to think it is going.

This was reported last week and it made me very sad.

A bit of an institution, but maybe someone will save it - who knows.

Has coffee overtaken tea as our national drink?
