Well me too - haven't a clue until we find out more!

Perhaps her employers kept annoying her out of office hours and she hid them then forgot where they were.

I would welcome that. She was good in transport, some great plans to improve our rail system oop north. Stood up on the P and O issue.

I think it is relevant to look at other MP's who've had convictions to get a sense of proportion. James McMurdock assaulted and repeatedly kicked his girlfriend, and was jailed for it, for goodness sake!

Haigh has stood down on a phone offence and did the right thing.

Her employers were convinced enough by her story of phones going missing to alert the police this was happening.The key word is phones as in more than one.All very fishy.
Anyway she’s resigned before she was pushed.

Listening to a report on the way home from work, the opinion seemed to be that, although she declared it to KS, she should also have mentioned it to the appropriate people when elected to cabinet.
Letting her go is intended to support KS’s tough stance with offenders.
Must be a good idea, and will keep the media, whichever wing they’re alleged to be, eager as always to spot any potential stories (or non-stories depending which side the reader is on.

Starmer knew, kept it quiet. If she was so convinced of her innocence, then why resign. She wouldn't pass a DBS check in civvy st, so why was it just shrugged off by the Labour elite.

It depends what kind of job she was applying for. For some jobs, such as teaching, convictions are never 'spent'. Nevertheless, it's not forbidden for employers (even schools) to employ people with convictions for minor offences. It's up to the employer to decide.

How do any of us know who's 'in the know' and telling the truth? All the gossip hasn't been given under oath.

You seem to have missed the point. Haigh isn't convinced of her innocence. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced, but the conviction is now 'spent'. I expect she resigned (or was persuaded to resign) because she knew if she didn't, she would be providing ammo and distraction from the serious business of government for her detractors.

Spent convictions are just that though Freya5, they don’t count as a deterrent for appointment as an MP or as a minister. For all we know many current MPs could have spent convictions, this is the second one revealed just since the election that I can remember.
There is some historical data from 2012, when it was revealed that 243 MPs had previous convictions (!), but nothing more recent that I could find.

It’s likely that although this was a minor offence, she knew she wouldn’t survive the next reshuffle anyway after her tactless comments about P&O, so rather than face days of media storm she decided to go. I respect her for doing that.

I refuse to use P&O after letting their staff down so badly. Perhaps she could have worded things a bit better but ……

Yes, but if they didn’t tell her to do that, perhaps she thought it wasn’t necessary.
The insurance company makes it quite clear that I must inform them if I recover something I had claimed for as lost.

I think the sensible thing to do would be to tell whoever supplied her phone to her, that she’d found her original phone and send it back?

The Times has been told that the company launched an investigation after Haigh said that company mobile phones had been stolen or had gone missing on repeated occasions.

"repeated occasions" is the key to all this. More will come out so Miss Haigh has "done a runner".

I used to lose my work phone (and normally find it) on a regular basis, prior to working from home I was outreach for a few years and had to cart around a work laptop, my phone, a work phone and paper work, it was a nightmare as I had no base, no desk and no storage.

Maybe she is just disorganised.

Frankly, if all she did was re-find her work phone, it’s a bit of a non-story!

If she’d tried to sell it on or gained in any way I’d view it differently. At the moment she just seems a bit ditsy?
