My new MP needs to go back to school!

It was very kind of my MP to send a Christmas card to me, and no doubt all his constituents. Inside was a printed handwritten letter from him.
Since when was Christmas written with a small C? 3 times over, once even at the beginning of a new sentence.
Surely they have secretaries to check what the MP writes?

Miserable blighters.

That’s very polite. You and I both know the true description 😉

^Also, I think the statement should be ‘My team and I’^
..... except when the preposition "from" is placed in front, when the statement should read " from my team and me," not from my team and I, (which we hear often).

I didn't read the letter at all.
I just looked at the handwriting.

I too thought that capital letters were supposed to be as tall as the vertical of lower case letters. This, though, is an attempt at a 'friendly' handwritten style where the 'rules' aren't followed.

Surely the important thing is an attempt to contact the constituents in a fairly informal, more personalised way. Well done that busy mp

👏👏👏👏 Absolutely.
The post says more about the OP than it does about her/his MP.

It certainly does! It’s quite strange to see the things that upset people these days!

Looks odd, but not a problem really.
Our card from Greens (we don’t hear from the others) is hand delivered. I don’t know whether to praise them for saving postage or hope they’re not claiming the cards on expenses.

I'm a retired proof-reader. That would have had my "Rejected" stamp all over it!

.........and from an MP? Vote out!

Would you vote out a Dyslexic MP in favour of one who didn't 'bother' to write out cards so you couldn't judge them on their handwriting?

I wonder about universal suffrage sometimes.

MissAdventure Tue 10-Dec-24 11:49:36

From a graphology point of view, what an interesting person this man is!!
I'm pretty sure we'll be hearing more from him, one way or another. wink

For the pedants amongst us it should be "nor" not "or"!

foxie48 Tue 10-Dec-24 11:20:43

I also suspect he's not and this thread is probably not about handwriting or the use of capital letters. I could, of course, be wrong but the fact it was posted in News and Politics seemed a bit of a red flag!
My MP is well educated, Oxbridge and all that, I just don't like her politics, tbh I neither know or care what her handwriting is like!

Goodness, I'd really laugh if this miscreant MP turned out to be a tory grin

I suspect he/she is not.

Perhaps some posters think he/she is one of the new Labour MPs which is making them 😡

Oh for heavens sake.. how about some gratitude..

Sorry. What do you mean please?

Gratitude that he's bothered to make the effort to communicate with people in his constituency..

MissAdventure Tue 10-Dec-24 10:08:50

Oh well, pardon me.
A bit of a blighter myself today.

Allira Tue 10-Dec-24 10:07:30

MissAdventure

It wasn't necessarily to escaped.

It's the other miserable blighters. grin

It wasn't aimed at you 😂

I'm off out soon, so in the meantime

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎅🤶

I suspect that it's just a matter of time before someone starts to moan about the cost of postage, or the impact on the planet of sending cards in the first place

Well, I did wonder whether or not to make those two points, Doodledog but thought better of it.

The cost of cards and postage would have gone on expenses anyway so you'd be paying him/her to send you Christmas greetings.

I hope the cards aren't glittery and all his constituents recycle them in the appropriate bin.

Doodledog Tue 10-Dec-24 09:59:06

I honestly don't know why people bother. An MP sends a hand-written card (albeit photocopied) and is criticised for his handwriting. If he had sent a printed one saying 'Merry Christmas from X and all at the LP' he would have been criticised for 'not bothering' to write it himself. I suspect that it's just a matter of time before someone starts to moan about the cost of postage, or the impact on the planet of sending cards in the first place, whilst others complain that the custom of sending card is dying out as people 'can't be bothered' to write them.

I've seen this sort of thing happen with my daughter, who is Dyslexic, (although I see no signs of Dyslexia in the photo). If she goes to the effort of put things in writing, often the comments are about the spelling or sentence structure, and not about the content or the fact that she 'bothered' to do it. Is it any wonder that people get fed up and stop doing things? They are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

Also, many people's handwriting is not as good as it used to be, as they spend 99% of the time on a keyboard. Mine used to be ok, but now it's awful, as I hand write very little - even for shopping lists I often use the Notes app on my phone.

Do people still have secretaries? Personal assistants, yes - but they don't check for capitalisation in Christmas cards grin. Aren't secretaries who type up letters etc a thing of the past now that people have computers and can do their own admin? And anyway, did secretaries ever proofread Christmas cards? I know I lost access to secretarial services in my work back in the 90s, and the admin they used to do was just added to my workload. I think that's pretty usual.

Allira Tue 10-Dec-24 09:56:27

Well, that's you told, escaped!!

MissAdventure Tue 10-Dec-24 09:50:16

Miserable blighters.

Truffle43 Tue 10-Dec-24 09:33:25

Why are people so critical these days. This MP is trying to communicate and I think it is a good thing.
Does it really matter if it is not upto your standards? This person may have a hidden disability. Accept what it is and for the message being sent.

Jeanathome Tue 10-Dec-24 09:30:42

He or she seems to have some reasonable ideas.

Here's a thing, I make loads of mistakes. I've struggled with spelling all my life. How do I know it's wrong? It looks right to me.
My handwriting is reasonable but as I scarcely write any more I suppose it will deteriorate.

Still it's fun to get the old red pen out I suppose.

RosiesMaw2 Tue 10-Dec-24 09:23:23

I don’t think the “c” of Christmas IS lower case. Compare it with them”c” further on. He just writes an exaggeratedly tall “h” - bit of a flourish?
“Me and my team” is a bit underwhelming though (but at least it wasn’t “myself and my team”!)
How nice to get anything at all though.

Gilly8591 Tue 10-Dec-24 09:21:46

I would really appreciate the hand written response and time and effort from the MP !
