^Also, I think the statement should be ‘My team and I’^
..... except when the preposition "from" is placed in front, when the statement should read " from my team and me," not from my team and I, (which we hear often).

Ah yes, I hadn’t read that whole sentence. I was taught it was correct if the ‘I ‘ or ‘me’ could stand alone, so ‘from me’ is correct as ‘from I’ isn’t correct.

Surely the important thing is an attempt to contact the constituents in a fairly informal, more personalised way. Well done that busy mp

👏👏👏👏 Absolutely.
The post says more about the OP than it does about her/his MP.

It looks like a specific handwriting style where the vertical letters are extended, rather than a lack of understanding of capital letters.

Yes. The ‘h’ is extended upwards rather than the ‘c’ being lower case.

On the other hand I am judging me and my team. I was taught to put others first. tchgrin

I find that it’s very common now for people to put the ‘me’ first.
I hear it all the time on both the radio and TV from those who should know better. Also, I think the statement should be ‘My team and I’.

Did you underline all three in red? As I can only see two and neither looked like a lower case c to me.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 09-Dec-24 18:55:52

You are lucky to have an MP who actually communicates with you. To deliberate about whether a C is written as a capital or lower case is surely subordinate to the kind personal nature of the letter.

SueDonim Mon 09-Dec-24 18:52:57

People often stylise their writing, though, once past primary school age. Your MP also forms long, wide tails to the relevant letters when a much smaller one would suffice.

I still write a cursive ‘z’ which lots of youngsters are probably baffled by! It’s just part of my style.

Interesting observations.
I think this thread should probably move to Pedants' Corner as I'm being fussy!

Here's the letter sizes used at KS1 and KS2 where the capital letter is clearly taller than any of the lower case letters. Even b, d, k, h, l aren't as tall.
It's not a big deal, however, although it did grate with me on the paper.

I'd better let him off though, as I discovered that he actually went to the same university as I did!

Fat chance of ours sending anything, conspicuously absent since being elected LD.

I think it’s a really clear and legible style of handwriting!

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Dec-24 17:19:58

It's very odd writing!
I would not be sending that out to strangers!

I think it's the handwriting style, if you look at the c which starts "community" or the c in the middle of recharge, it is the same size as the lowercase letters whereas those starting Christmas are much bigger. It certainly makes a change to see anything hand written so well done to your MP for trying to make it seem a more personal message.

Oh, maybe it's me then, but I was always taught that the capital letter should be taller than the other lower case letters, or at least as tall as. The c is very short against the h.

nandad Mon 09-Dec-24 17:06:14

I agree with hollysteers, I think it’s just the first c that looks lower case.

hollysteers Mon 09-Dec-24 17:02:02

Only the first Christmas looks like a small ‘c’ to me?🤔

escaped Mon 09-Dec-24 16:59:16

It was very kind of my MP to send a Christmas card to me, and no doubt all his constituents. Inside was a printed handwritten letter from him.
Since when was Christmas written with a small C? 3 times over, once even at the beginning of a new sentence.
Surely they have secretaries to check what the MP writes?
