Many bad things happen because there are wicked people out there with no conscience. The cruelty beggars belief. That poor girl may well be ruined for life and for it to be at the hands of her mother who should be protecting her makes it even worse

In a particular job I did, last century, I was shocked at the significant numbers of 16 y o mainly boys, turning up needing to get a job as their families had chucked them out & left them to get on with it once their child benefit ceased on them leaving school.
Prior to that, I thought most families cared about their children for life, but that made me realise it's only when they're cute babies & children in some families. I know it's not as bad as prostituting your daughter, but it comes from the same place & it's legal.

It's disturbing that young boys are seeing porn online and thinking this is the norm. I do realise, of course, that this was an older man, a paedophile, taking advantage of this vulnerable child.

I wonder if this poor girl thinks this is what she has to do and has no choice and hope she gets the help that she will need.

The trick is to keep an open mind.

I used to work for the police in an admin role. For a time I worked for the vice squad and this isn't the first time I've heard of a mother doing this. I've never seen any of those cases reported even in the local paper. To be honest if all the shocking cases were reported there'd be no room for anything else.

Women exploiting their children, hurting their children, not protecting their children. Men doing the same. I got very depressed and moved to another role.

You’re right, this is a serious subject, probably rather lost today because of the publication of the judgement in the Sara Sharif case. But this case is yet another terrible case of abuse. To be honest, it’s beyond my understanding or comprehension. To sell her daughter for abuse is so utterly vile, and I thought it worth a thread despite the terrible case of Sara Sharif in the news again today.

I don't have a 'high' opinion of the Mail's often subjective reporting (subjective to me), nor some of its editorials.

But - I still read it together with other media - and have even quoted it on occasions. I'm a Guardian reader (mostly) - but that paper is not without its faults, either. It's just a bit more subtle in its 'selectivity'.

The trick is to keep an open mind.

And I think we all know when we are being either 'led', patronised, or being fed doubtful 'information'...

I was getting out some Christmas stuff today and found some photos of my children when they were pre-school age. My heart overflowed - it really did. Such wondrous times and the absolute unbridled joy at the miracle of bringing a new life into the world.

Haven't we all (well, most of us I'm sure) wished it was us not them when they got hurt, (physically or mentally) itched from chicken pox, broke a limb, fell against the edge of the coffee table, screamed with earache...?

It's totally beyond my comprehension how anyone can torture any child, let alone their own. Or sell them for sex or some kind of slavery.

The judge's summing up today in Sara's case was so wise and poignant. I hope they never get out.
