20 years. Good

Sentencing continuing now for others.

Not only support for her, but also for her family. They have clearly suffered too as a result of this ordeal.

Oldbat1 Thu 19-Dec-24 17:05:52

Not long enough sentences were given to the other 50 men. Meanwhile 20 other rapists still not accounted for. I was so impressed at how she conducted herself. I hope she has support going forward.

Bea65 Thu 19-Dec-24 13:42:11

Bravo Gisele .. no years would be long enough for these rapists and pleased that Sky read out ALL the men involved so globally they are shamed👋

Mt61 Thu 19-Dec-24 13:32:37

That poor, poor woman didn’t know she was being assaulted & raped, yet there is a young girl “on only fans” having sex with a hundred guys for money & likes She’s now aiming for a thousand.. absolutely disgusting 😩 topic is on mums net & YouTube

Well done that judge. The men who have been hiding behind masks are now exposed and all of their families, friends, neighbours and colleagues will see them as they are.

Anyone who thinks horrible rapes don’t happen in the uk think again. Plus only a tiny % of rape cases end in a prosecution.

Caleo Thu 19-Dec-24 11:52:50

Maybe hyperbolic Nannee, but true . Let's now inspect our own British culture and review how much misogyny there is.
Is misogyny an outgrowth from capitalism? An effect of human nature?

Anthropology can I hope find the causes of cultures of rape and exploitation. When we find the causes we can prevent the crimes.

I think the image France loves to portray of being the superior culture of Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, has taken a severe battering and shown that, far from being the sophisticated, progressive leader of enlightenment the rest of Europe should look up to it is, in fact, a tawdry shambles of deep misogyny and mediaeval mindsets.

It's both.

I hope the law is changed so consent is now added to any consideration of rape.

Caleo Thu 19-Dec-24 10:55:17

That there were so many rapists must mean there is something wrong with the culture of belief . Was it lack of moral education in French homes ands schools.

ferry23 Thu 19-Dec-24 10:50:02

I hope so Pascal, although I daresay there are worse examples around the world....but let's not even go there.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 19-Dec-24 10:48:59

I hope Monsieur Pelicot spends the rest of his life in jail.

As for the others, their pathetic excuses for their despicable rapes of a comatose female leave me speechless!

They all deserve the maximum sentence available to the Judge.

pascal30 Thu 19-Dec-24 10:42:20

At least they are all guilty and going to jail.. Including the horrible man whose wife Pelicot also regularly raped.. He has got 12 years..
so despite all their pathetic attempts to mitigate their actions.. 25% saying they were sexually abused as children, others saying they thought it was a game and others that they were intimidated and scared of M.Pelicot.. the law stood strong which of course it had to with the eyes of the world on it..
It was a very wise decision Mdme Pelicot to to go public.. perhaps France will now take these rape and assault cases seriously from nowon...

Rosie51 Thu 19-Dec-24 10:39:50

Does anybody know if French prisoners serve the whole of their sentence or is there the expectation that they are allowed out on licence after serving a portion of it? I'm hoping they have to serve the entire length.

Arrogance, arrogance, arrogance is what, to me, comes across so strongly from the legal teams representing these foul abusers.

For me, there's a lot of ethical issues at play.

I suppose, (reluctantly, but probably according to some law or other) even if it's a guilty plea, they're entitled to a defence to mitigate the potential incarceration time.

Being cynical, defence lawyers will make money out of it whatever the sentence is, so they plough on with some ridiculous arguments.

But is the state paying them? If I were a French tax payer I wouldn't be too impressed if that's the case.

I could never be a defence lawyer - I would never have been able to take on any of the cases in this sordid business. I just couldn't on moral grounds. So I'd fail at the first fence.

Yes but he is 72 years old. Chances are he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Gisele will certainly be living with the consequences of what he did for the rest of her life.

Astitchintime Thu 19-Dec-24 10:08:51

Nowhere near enough IMO! And I hope he has an extremely unpleasant time serving his sentence.

Wyllow3 Thu 19-Dec-24 10:08:40

Not enough!

rafichagran Thu 19-Dec-24 10:07:31

I know the above is not possible under there law though.

rafichagran Thu 19-Dec-24 10:05:15

Should be 20 years for each rape. The husband was a wicked evil excuse for a human being.
