I know lots of GNetters expressed a liking for this family group. Perhaps it's just me but I find their latest rendition tasteless in the extreme. They are a monetised channel and I think exploiting this woman's stunning bravery is sick. I won't link to their offering to the tune of "50 ways to leave your lover" it's easy to find. I couldn't bring myself to listen to more than the first few bars.
Ugh.
I think the Marsh family are just jumping on a bandwagon with their song.
In the weeks leading up to the trial in France there were many protests with songs and chants, mainly by groups of women. Their purpose was to apply pressure in their own country, in the hope that justice would be proportionate to the acts committed against Gisèle. There were never any children roped into the singing. The Marsh family are irritating, and as someone said, have shown very bad judgment.
Apology from Marsh family on X, formerly twitter.
"The message we intended from this song -commending Gisele Pelicots remarkable resilience and bravery in waiving anonymity, and utterly condemning those convicted was not getting across, and we've taken it down. At no point was it being monetised. At no point was it intended to trivialize or upset people. We've always covered difficult news stories/ subjects( murders, war, gendered violence) in musical commentaries and don't think anything should be off limits. But we've pulled this one and will assess how to revisit. "
Jaffacake I read the lyrics, which he set to '50 ways to leave your lover', he might as well have referenced '50 Shades of Grey'. In the description to the now taken down video he says it's been 'rushed out on a Thursday evening'. The world has witnessed Gisèle's bravery from the woman herself, on the news, on websites for the entirety of the trial. There was absolutely no need for the Marsh family to give 'testimony to her bravery' by singing about her on their monetised channel.
Gisele Pelicot is a brave and courageous woman and I is her decision to waive her anonymity.
The Marsh family have tried to diminish this with their tawdry song. They really should be ashamed.

There is absolutely nothing that could change my mind about this song
The Marsh family set out to monetise Gisele Pelicot’s multiple rapes by multiple men.
Disgusting, shameful behaviour…
My thoughts exactly. I don't see how there's any other way you can look at it.

Well said.
I’ve never been a fan so this just put the top hat on it for me.
It's not appropriate to release a song about the terrible abuse of a woman, whatever the lyrics say.
If it was about the rape of one your family members would you be happy about it???
To me, it doesn't really matter what the lyrics say. Releasing a song - any song - about this just doesn't sit right with me at all.
For those who may have judged this song without really looking at the lyrics. I thought it was a testimony to her bravery .
The problem was not inside her head as she had believed
In some ways it's ingrained in our societies
But she exposed it ,waving anonymity
It was a legal case like no other
In other cases little proof can come to light
It's the victims in the shadows of the demons in the night
But she's standing for her sister's and the wrongs they can't right
It was disgraceful how she suffered
But she will be saving many others.
There are more lyrics to the chorus.

Why didn't university lecturer daddy Marsh issue a statement in support of, and celebrating the bravery of Gisele Pelicot, rather than a song??
Indeed! I rather pity his students if he's this much of a twerp generally.

I am surprised that the Marsh family thought it appropriate material. What can they be thinking?
It puts them in a very different light. I hope the family sees sense and removes the video as part of damage limitation to their reputation. Asap.
Quite agree! It does feel like it minimises her suffering and the suffering of all the other women who have been raped one way or another over the years.
That family has always shown very bad judgement in my view - but this really takes the biscuit.

Thank goodness.
Because they are able to admit they made a big error of judgment.

I don't think for a moment they wanted to "Capitalise" on her bravery but to celebrate it and call out the perpetrators, but I agree it was ill thought out and am glad they have pulled it.
They wanted to celebrate her bravery? Why then rush it out on a Thursday evening as they stated in the description of the video? If you wanted to honour someone you'd want a well thought out, well presented item. I don't buy it, I think they're crass opportunists. Why have they pulled the content from all the social media outlets they posted on, FaceBook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube?

Definitely seem to be marmite material. I think this Christmas fund raiser for Save the children "Universal child"moving and appropriate

I wonder if Annie Lennox would be so quick to give her endorsement again, after the furore surrounding the Pelicot song.
Yep.
Why else would anyone think they do all these songs and parodies?

Rosie51 is spot on! Every time someone watches a video like this - on YouTube, TikTok or whatever - it means more revenue for the content creators. It's literally the only reason they post stuff like this - the more 'clicks, the more likes, the more watches they get, the more the money rolls in.
Watching aomething on YouTube which had adverts in, certainly, pays dividends to the channel owners.

Watching a song doesn't add money to their coffers.
They have their jobs and they have a number of people who subscribe to their channel.
They also have done considerable fund raising for charities. Their current one is their Christmas one for Save the Children.
Some songs are political satire, some about family life.
Watching a song doesn't add money to their coffers.
Of course it does! Content creators get paid for the number of views they get. It may not be a huge amount per view but it adds up when they've got a large following. Advertisers place their advertisements before and during popular creators and the creators get paid for that. As I've said not huge amounts per item but when your views run to many thousands up to over one million on one of their videos then that adds up to not insignificant amounts.
They rushed this song out to capitalise on Gisèle Pelicot's bravery. Shame on them.

Sorry I have no idea who the Marsh family are .! Am I missing something ?
They are a family who sing on social media, about issues which are currently news.
There are lots like them; less to do with social commentary, more about keeping themselves in the limelight, in my opinion.
