Why didn't university lecturer daddy Marsh issue a statement in support of, and celebrating the bravery of Gisele Pelicot, rather than a song??

I am surprised that the Marsh family thought it appropriate material. What can they be thinking?
It puts them in a very different light. I hope the family sees sense and removes the video as part of damage limitation to their reputation. Asap.

Quite agree! It does feel like it minimises her suffering and the suffering of all the other women who have been raped one way or another over the years.

That family has always shown very bad judgement in my view - but this really takes the biscuit.

Indeed! I rather pity his students if he's this much of a twerp generally.

For those who may have judged this song without really looking at the lyrics. I thought it was a testimony to her bravery .

The problem was not inside her head as she had believed
In some ways it's ingrained in our societies
But she exposed it ,waving anonymity
It was a legal case like no other
In other cases little proof can come to light
It's the victims in the shadows of the demons in the night
But she's standing for her sister's and the wrongs they can't right
It was disgraceful how she suffered
But she will be saving many others.

There are more lyrics to the chorus.

To me, it doesn't really matter what the lyrics say. Releasing a song - any song - about this just doesn't sit right with me at all.

It's not appropriate to release a song about the terrible abuse of a woman, whatever the lyrics say.

If it was about the rape of one your family members would you be happy about it???

My thoughts exactly. I don't see how there's any other way you can look at it.

Gisele Pelicot is a brave and courageous woman and I is her decision to waive her anonymity.

The Marsh family have tried to diminish this with their tawdry song. They really should be ashamed.

Jaffacake I read the lyrics, which he set to '50 ways to leave your lover', he might as well have referenced '50 Shades of Grey'. In the description to the now taken down video he says it's been 'rushed out on a Thursday evening'. The world has witnessed Gisèle's bravery from the woman herself, on the news, on websites for the entirety of the trial. There was absolutely no need for the Marsh family to give 'testimony to her bravery' by singing about her on their monetised channel.

We've always covered difficult news stories/ subjects( murders,war,gendered violence) in musical commentaries and don't think anything should be off limits. But we've pulled this one and will assess how to revisit. "

I think the Marsh family are just jumping on a bandwagon with their song.
In the weeks leading up to the trial in France there were many protests with songs and chants, mainly by groups of women. Their purpose was to apply pressure in their own country, in the hope that justice would be proportionate to the acts committed against Gisèle. There were never any children roped into the singing. The Marsh family are irritating, and as someone said, have shown very bad judgment.

I posted the lyrics because several people had said they hadn't listened to the song but still judged it. Don't think I was being insensitive.

Lyrics apart, a song undermines what Gisele Pelicot has been through and when someone is cashing in as well, it is totally wrong and insensitive.
