Yvette Cooper gets minced

Did anybody else see the video of Yvette Cooper in a Morrisons store handing out mince pies today?

It was hilarious because a local female resident could not resist going over and telling her what she thought of her and the Labour party.

She has just been on GB News talking about how very disappointed she has been and that she has always been a Labour voter. She told YC exactly what she thought in a very restrained way. She also said Yvette was making out she was donating mince pies but Morrisons donated them. She also ignored a homeless man who always sits outside the supermarket and did not offer him one.

This smart shopper told her exactly what she thought about the way Waspi ladies have been treated, how they keep on about a massive black hole yet they are giving more than that away to foreign countries for climate research, illegal immigrants, Ukraine, etc etc. she ended by saying she should be handing out blankets to freezing pensioners not mince pies.

She was just a 52 year old Mum but she was great!
Good on her I say.

ronib we are also not self sufficient in foodstuffs as basic as wheat and have not been since the opening up of the Canadian prairies in the 1870s.

In 2023 we produced 62% of our food and only 75% of indigenous food. By far the greater part of our imports came from EU countries. Even if we ceased importing exotic fruit and vegetables there would still be a large gap between consumption and production.

Global wasrming will only reduce farm output. Manythousand of acres of farmland had to be replanted after last years winter rains and flooding and significant proportion could not in fact be replanted. Harvest figures were low. This country winter looks like following suite.

Well I did watch the video (not the one Primrose referenced, (as it has hardly any in it), but the GB interview

At the end of the interview, she punches the air, and shouts clearly "Vote Reform!!!!!!!

its absolutely clear where she's coming from, and all the guff about "Accidentally laving her phone on" and her son"loading it onto tik Tok without her knowledge"

Please, I thought you knew, we mustn’t let “facts” get in the way of a good story!

Merry Christmas to each and everyone one of you, and your families and loved ones. I wish you all peace and tranquility, love and kindness, whatever your views/beliefs/religion/nationality/political persuasion and a much healthier, kinder and more stable 2025.

She also says she did not vote labour at the last election, she is not as the O/P stated a "lifelong voter".

I’ve never been a fan of Yvette Cooper, but, what I do know is: she is doing more to stop the boats than any other Home Secretary.
And before anyone says show us the proof I can’t.

Hearsay is not evidence though. Until I see hotels going back to their proper use, I don't believe anything this Gov "say" it's done.

Notagranyet24 Tue 24-Dec-24 13:22:47

Well said Monica.
As to the UK being self sufficient in food, that hasn't been the case since the 1980s and if we don't spend money on ameliorating climate change, farming will, as I heard a market farmer say recently, take place largely in polytunnels. Farmland is already damaged by flooding, unseasonal weather causing poor germination, fruiting and harvesting. It's about time people woke up to the fact that the world has changed and 1945 will never come again though it just might in another world war.

I can't remember who it was who wrote about going to dinner Chez Balls very many years ago when Ed was in government and that person said to the children "So is your Dad going to be Prime Minister one day?" and the child replied "No, but Mummy is!".

We're still waiting, Yvette.

Good publicity for Morrison's too!

Handing out mince pies in a supermarket seems like a very odd thing for any MP to do.

I thought that too.
Especially since it is reported that Morrisons supplied the mince pies.

I said that before I saw the information that Cooper has done this every year for 20 years. Which makes it a Christmas tradition...grin

So - an elected representative listened to a constituent who listed her shortcomings.
Well done to both, I'd say, celebrating our rights as citizens to declare our views and the ability of an MP to take it on the chin.

Ex-actly!

This video from Talk Tv is worth watching and at 13.29 shows Yvette with her tray of Morrison mince pies and Amanda Jane Hunt confronting her.

I say well done to AJH for telling her that she let down the Waspi women and how, since she was MP for that area they have lost so many amenities in the area. All she has done is speak the truth.

Funny (peculiar) that this thread should be called spiteful because it’s criticising a Labour MP.
Should all the posted criticisms of the previous government’s MPs be reclassified now?

Cossy Tue 24-Dec-24 12:36:43

What an awful thread! So we should ignore wars in Europe, climate change and the misery of illegal immigrants! Let's just think of our little island and ignore the rest of the world and our collective future!

I completely agree! But sadly some GNs appear to have nothing better to do than constantly criticise the LP, seemingly forgetting that they won the election on the back of people being so fed up of 14 years of Tory rule, which started with austerity which benefited exactly nobody!

Nope, I don’t agree with some of the LPs moves and policy shifts, yes, I’m still prepared to give them a fair chance. Rome wasn’t (re)built in a day.

I don’t know what ‘get minced’ means

Just a couple of facts:

Yvette Cooper has given out mince pies in her constituency for the past 20 twenty years.

The woman who confronted her is a well known supporter of Reform UK PLC, who has recently been sending Ms Cooper a series of ‘unpleasant’ emails.

Anyway, Happy Christmas Primrose - peace to you and yours!

So what? This woman has every right to email Cooper expressing her views, and you have no idea what details were in her ‘unpleasant’ emails. As for being a Reform supporter nothing wrong with that.

Completely agree with Primrose on this.

I won’t believe claims made against this woman until we see evidence and even then, it’s her choice who she now supports.

However, you’re quite willing to start a spiteful thread only reported on very selected media about a politician who has freely given her time to meet her constituents face to face and willingly take the brickbats. How sad.

You’re calling it a “spiteful” thread because you don’t agree with it! 🤣

I thought it was funny, it reminded me of Brenda from Bristol and the other Labour PM whose name escapes me right now.

Grunty Tue 24-Dec-24 12:10:02

Well done for starting a very goady thread.

It's only goady because it doesn't align with your political persuasion. If it had been about Boris or Farage no doubt you'd have found it "topical".

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Dec-24 12:03:50

And criticisms that equally could have been made of the previous government as they were already long standing issues all lumped together.

Anniebach Tue 24-Dec-24 11:55:30

S9me are repeating what they said after one month of this government.

Allsorts Tue 24-Dec-24 11:54:57

Good for the woman having her say, why shouldn't she?

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Dec-24 11:53:35

Its because there is no really viable set of alternative right wing politics that answers questions on NHS, Care, Prisons, judicial system, pensions, and how to fund them.

Tearing down with no "but this would work" n the end is just liable to destroy people being bothered to come out and vote. It adds nothing to help the country.

DamaskRose Tue 24-Dec-24 11:47:46

Iam64

Honestly - finding it ‘hilarious’ that someone has a go at Yvette Cooper suggests a real lack of warmth, humanity or humour in life

This was my thought too. Sometimes when I read these threads it almost seems as if posters want a government to fail, so gleeful are they, just so they can say “I told you so”. I voted Labour because I was disgusted with the last government. I wanted Labour to succeed because that would be best for our country. Am I disappointed? Yes, I am, hugely, but I’m not giving up hope because I want the best for the UK. Some of the posters here seem just to want to prove their point. I find that really disappointing .

Wyllow3 Tue 24-Dec-24 11:46:04

The giveaway in the lady's rant politics wise was in the bit on Ukraine, pure 'Reform".

Boz Tue 24-Dec-24 11:29:09

Labour's problem is that is is against the current zeitgeist in the Country that is moving, politically, to the Right.
The New Year will not be happy for them.
The future will be Reform (the influence more than the Party)
