How can you petition against unauthorised entry? Makes no sense. As for regular migration, there are a lot of jobs that the indigenous population ( i.e.white Anglo Saxons) don’t seem to want to do or are not qualified for.

The white Anglo-Saxons were immigrants.

The indigenous population are the Ancient Britons, who probably became the Welsh and Cornish.

Even the ancient Britons weren't the original inhabitants.

True, the Neanderthals were here first but they died out, only to live on in us.

Some of my daughter's female support workers are from Pakistan, they are all training to be nurses but work in LD support whilst they train. They aren't the only foreign support workers that are relied upon by the care sector. We would (personally and nationally) be buggered without them

And yet the 16-24 year olds are the largest group of unemployed in the UK. Get these into work first instead of importing so many. It would be an enormous boost to our economy on many levels.

Does that include those in education?

According to the Office for National Statistics, this number are those not in employment, training or education.
Labour need to get a grip on this. These young people should be the UK's future but are being allowed to do nothing except claim benefits. It's a worrying trend.

I certainly wouldn’t want a truculent 16-24 year old providing support/care to anyone I care about Sarnia.

Nor me, I would not of liked a 16-24 who has no vocation of doing a job of caring, looking after my dad.
The migrants I see I walking, or on bikes wandering around town during the day, is that because they aren’t allowed to work?

The Eastern Europeans, apart from the Ukraine people aren’t fighting any wars, so why do they need to come over here?
We have six car washes in this small town, loads of Turkish barber shops!
I am all for looking after the genuine ones who are fleeing from war torn countries but I don’t think a lot are tbh.

Has nobody in your family left your village for better opportunities?
I did, then "we" as a family did, then all of my children did.
Some came back - as I did, and some made a new life elsewhere.
We are mostly immigrants somewhere.

Many people might ‘have had enough’ Freya. Being furious about the fact that so many from war torn or oppressive regimes won’t stop them trying to reach the safety of Northern Europe.
I’m sure their ancestors felt they’d had enough when armies from European countries marched in and colonised so many countries. We are facing the current legacy of empire building alongside all the reasons people seek a new, safer life.

It isn’t about ‘screaming racist, zenophobe’ it’s about the need for international co-operation to try and reduce the need. If my family was facing horrors, I’d up whatever I could afford to help fund the young, strong, men in our group to make the perilous journey, seek asylum and send for us oldies and the girls.

👏👏👏👏👏

Why not train the “unemployed” in careers that we do need? I know many would ‘fall by the wayside” but I’m sure a lot would get a lightbulb moment and realise that working for a living is not so bad after all?

This would surely lessen the need for immigrants to fill the posts?

Given we have a massive shortage of nurses/doctors/dentists/teachers/carers I’m not so sure how that will work?

We can't stop a few boats let alone put a complete ban on immigration. The red tape and do-gooders won't allow this to happen.

petal53 Sun 29-Dec-24 09:07:53

will this be retrospective?

It won’t be anything because obviously it’s not going to happen.

I thought Oreo’s post from yesterday at 12.18 was sensible and considered.

nanna8 Sun 29-Dec-24 09:01:50

A big ‘if’ though isn’t it ? A shame the ones really seeking asylum can’t be separated from the ones who just think they are onto a good thing with no one threatening them whatsoever. That’s the real issue - most would NOT refuse help to those fleeing oppression and violence. Most, not all of course.

Naive at best. How do you stop illegal migration? And we depend on legal migrants in nhs, care etc. Would that also apply to universities who rely on foreign students for income. It's another xenophobic rant.

One in one out. Not xenophobic at all. Our cities and streets are being changed, and in most cases not for the better of this country and its people.e.
You can scream racist, xenophobe as much as you like. It does not change the fact that many people have had enough.

I am the descendent of irish immigrants, those that came to the Uk escaping the Irish Famine and those that joined the British army and fought for this country in wo world wars.

Homo Sapiens originated in Africa, so every one living outside that area is an emigrant to where they live now. but that is not really the point. Once an area is inhabited its inhabitants tend to resist further prople joining them.

The main cause of war since the start of time has been defence of territory. The main reason for this is that extra population puts pressure on resources needed to feed the existing population. We have now reached a point where the world is overpopulated and smaller countries like those of Western Europe are beginning to reach tipping point and increased population is placing pressure on resources and the economy.

At 10,000 signatures the government has to respond.

At 100,000signatures it’s considered for a ‘debate in parliament’ (i.e in Westminster Hall with a cobbled together little group of MPs.
Then the government informs the signatories that nothing is going to change.

MissAdventure Sat 28-Dec-24 22:19:56

You stand there and wave the petition at the boats.
That soon shows 'em.

Did the similar one, that closed in May of this year and was commented on by the government, get many signatures?

Perhaps the person who started this one thought that a different government might give them a different answer...grin

According to NotSpaghetti's link 44,389 signatures.

Wyllow3 Sat 28-Dec-24 21:10:59

There is a new current one as well - found it online as per the O/P.
Its utterly pointless and ignorant!

My thought is that this petition was set up by some ill informed and prejudiced idiot who has no idea what the consequences of the petition being successful would actually be.

I agree and certainly will not be signing it
