Badenoch has jumped on the bandwagon, but I'm not sure it was the Tories who instigated the point scoring, especially as Elon Musk has called Jess Phillips a "rape genocide apologist". This is dangerous - it only takes one lunatic lone wolf to take action - two British MPs have already been murdered. Farage has defended Musk's comments.

These vile grooming gangs could have been closed down if the authorities and the police had done their jobs properly. I read one of the inquiries which established there was an element of racism amongst the police forces which led them to negatively view, and ignore, girls who fraternised with Asian men. Girls who reported abuse at police stations were seen as a nuisance by police officers and even social workers spoke of girls making a "lifestyle choice" . This was when it was clear that many girls were under age and, even when at the age of consent, were being subjected to serious acts of violence.

The reports all reached conclusions and made recommendations as to how the authorities could prevent such atrocities from recurring. So another report is not needed - what is needed is proper oversight and immediate action so that it is absolutely clear that physical and psychological violence against girls and women will be severely punished.

Action is needed on the findings of the last inquiry to make sure that young girls feel able to report such crimes and be listened to and taken seriously. Those who did not do their jobs properly and were responsible for the dreadful ordeal these girls went through should be dealt with accordingly even if that means court cases. Anyone see a correlation here? Hillsborough, Post Office, Infected Blood, Grenfell Tower. All have been done to death with lengthy inquiries but those responsible never get bought to book and the victims are left for years without any answers or compensation. The grooming gangs scandal seems to be going the same way.

I think you and others are well aware what's happened since.

Imagine this was a Conservative leader refusing Oldham's request.

You'd be up in arms.

But a Conservative government was in power when the results of the last inquiry were published. What action did it take then? Sorry, but I really don't understand why another inquiry is needed at this stage.

Maggie Oliver, the former Greater Manchester Police detective who helped uncover the abuse said previous inquiries had led no where and she believed it was time for a fresh independent investigation into the grooming.She said 'those leading previous enquiries had always wanted to cover up the truth.'

The desire for an enquiry came from pre-2011-14 survivors from Oldham, whose cases were not covered and who claim there has been a cover-up. The article in the DT by Sam Ashworth Hayes and Charlie Peters includes extracts from Judge Peter Rook's sentencing of a man in 2013 and makes horrifying reading. There is much much more but the DT has a paywall and I cannot reproduce it.
It is truly appalling.

They really need to act on the last one. Heads need to roll. What those girls suffered is truly awful

Milk spilt on the kitchen floor. I know, let's hold an enquiry into how it happened, who was responsible and discuss what measures can be taken to minimise the possibility of it happening again. Good, lessons have been learnt.

The milk is still all over the floor as everybody was so focussed on the enquiry that nobody thought to clean it up.

The above was given as a simplified example of how inquiries work.
