Trump in fighting mood

President elect Trump was in fighting mood yesterday with his promise that 'all hell will break loose' should Hamas not return the remaining hostages before his inauguration.
He also wants to take by force if necessary, Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Oh and the little matter of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Strap in everyone, we're in for a bumpy ride.

US is not subsidizing Canada! They have a trade deficit, which means they purchase more from us than we do from them. In Trump's twisted mind, he has turned that into a subsidy.

The dangerous thing is that the more misinformation he spews, the more people believe it and don't check any facts.

He can say the same for UK, you have a trade surplus of 72 billion GBP, so he can say that he subsidizes the UK.

Hello😊.

I’ve been waiting for your comments.

Thank you for putting that straight.

It is dangerous, uncharted territory. Yes NanKate, it must be worrying for Ukraine. Did everyone, everywhere sleepwalk into this seemingly universal Right Wing takeover?

Unfortunately, from the American point of view, it could be thought that the US taking over Greenland makes good strong strategic sense from a military point of view. So I am afraid a great many of America's supporters of Trump will think this is a marvellous idea.

Obviously, we don't in Denmark, where agreement has been reached with Greenland that they are entitled to work towards being an independent country.

Judging from today's news, some, mainly young Greenlanders, are attracted by the idea of a tie to the US - they seem to have ignored or not understood that Trump is thinking along the lines of annexing their country, not just strengthening different kinds of relationships to it. Other Greenlanders are extremely worried by the idea, as are probably most Danes.

It makes little or no sense for two countries who both belong to NATO to get into a territorial dispute.

Should a majority of Greenlanders wish to end their political ties to Denmark, then they might be better off joining forces with Canada, rather than America. The American base on Thule has never been particularly popular with Greenlanders, who may well feel that Canada's views on military defence and on Inuit are more sensible than America's.

If Trump seriously wants to annexe Greenland, the Panama canal zone, or is it all of Panama? AND Canada, he will have his work cut out.

Presumably, American career diplomats are tearing their hair, irrespective of their political colour.

It is to be hoped that this is just Trump belting out bombast, not a serious political agenda.

Canada is fighting back

“Canada is planning to fight back against Trump’s tariffs by cutting off all energy supplies to the U.S.”

That's old news. This was in the press 4 weeks ago.

You forgot to mention, absorbing Canada into the USA!!!

Oh yes, especially now Trudeau has resigned. No better time!

Canada and The Usa have approx. 8.500 km. from the Western Coast to the Atlantic Coast.

It is doubtful that Canada shall be joining The Usa.

Trump´s reasoning for Canada and Greenland as well is FRACKING: Oil, gas, minerals, metals ..

To destroy a grand nation of its wealth ..

And Military: Let us think about this. Who is Trump afraid of or who does he see as a threat ?

The Terrorists from Islamic Countries ?

Surely not Russia and Putin.

China - doubtful no ..

Since when has anyone gone around buying up countries? How much is it worth? We have reached a new low. This is crazy talk. Shame we can’t buy out Trump!

The reason Trump is threatening Canada.

Trump: Canada is subsidized to the tune of about $200 billion a year, plus other things. And they don't essentially have a military. They have a very small military. They rely on our military. It's all fine, but you know they gotta pay for that.

Is this factual though??

Goodness knows. And now we can’t so easily check what he rabbits as true.

Is all hyperbole. All hell has already broken loose in Gaza, what else does he suggest, nukes??
The man is as unhinged as his advisor Musk.

I agree completely.

If Trump thinks it is ok to buy Greenland, he may also think it is right for a Putin to invade Ukraine. What a dreadful mess and an unsafe world we are in. 😳

Exactly.

I am reminded of the last few sentences of Animal Farm

The creatures outside looked from Trump (pig) to Putin (man), and from Putin (man) to Trump(pig), and from Trump(pig) to Putin(man) again; but already it was impossible to say which was which".

And there will be elections in two years time, so if Trump gets it badly wrong he could lose both Houses.

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Jan-25 15:11:27

And this is how his neocolonialism threatens Europe, and the only way ahead is to work with other European countries.

Lets see what happens when he actually has to run the country with the promises he has made there.

And although the Republican Party (just) holds both houses, as we have seen already, they are not prepared to just be a walk-over.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 08-Jan-25 14:55:04

President Trump just announced that he will place massive tariffs on Denmark if they don't immediately relinquish all control of Greenland.

"We need Greenland for national security purposes."

eazybee Wed 08-Jan-25 14:53:23

At present Trump is rather a joke.

I don't think he will be for much longer.

Also seen is this concerning Blackrock Finance and the Labour Government. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/02/labour-plans-britain-private-finance-blackrock

My daughter pointed me in the direction by seeing something on UTube with RFJ jnr. She asked my opinion. Just something else to throw into the mix.

😄😄😄 Canadian MPs are offering free health care to any US states who want to become Canadian.

There isn't much left of Gaza or it's people now.. Genocide and almost complete obliteration of the hospitals and homes whilst the whole world looked on..

It doesn't give me much faith that these meglomaniacs Trump and Musk will be reigned in by any other powers, when they attempt to conquer or buy other countries.. It will all boil down to China versus America in a huge world takeover.. China already owns huge parts of it already..

This is the real issue China “owns” large slices of Africa, even Australia, the US has realized this at a very late stage and is beginning to develope its own strategy.

On the other hand if Chinese debts get too oppressive for developing countries, the US could buy out China. We must never forget China is using international finance to fund its expansion

and Mongolia with it's resources ,not to mention the genocide when it conquered Tibet

Journalists need to find some real issues to write about and give less time to attention seekers like Musk, Trump and various Tory so-called leaders. Of course, it's easy for lazy hacks to write up cheap rhetoric rather than search for real news.

Why do the Conservatives only have 'so called' leaders? And where does 'cheap rhetoric' end and 'real news' start?

In 2 weeks time Donald Trump will be President of the USA for the next few years. He will have a large army and a huge nuclear arsenal at his disposal. His party command both Houses of Congress. Everyone, should be hanging on his every word because the mad man will be running the asylum and none of our lives are safe.

How does he intend to resolve matters over the hostages? Trump will hold a lot of power as regards Netanyahu because of the huge military aid budget.

Trump has other connections to the genocidal Netanyahu; his son in law, Kushner, has very strong family connections.

I disagree, Trump is no longer funny, he is dangerous, deluded and being encouraged by a man with an awful lot of money.
