You forgot to mention, absorbing Canada into the USA!!!

Oh yes, especially now Trudeau has resigned. No better time!

Such a bad time for Canada to be without a good leader!
We all hope it’s just rhetoric from Trump but can’t be sure he won’t back up his words with action on some things.🤬

I expect Farage will be campaigning for the UK to become the 53rd state after Canada and Greenland. What was that about UK independence?

Davida1968 Wed 08-Jan-25 09:39:12

If he can offer to buy Greenland, then perhaps he'll offer to "buy the UK" - or one of the four countries therein? IMO he's crazy enough to think he could make us the 51st state!

We’re talking about trump!

On the other hand, you could panic a tad and worry that Trump’s apparent expansionism is reminiscent of so much in history which has never ended well.

Yes it is extremely worrying. I hope that somewhere in the Republican Party there is the voice of reason. He is certainly coming across as even more of a megalomaniac.
The Americans who are in the grips of natural disasters and violent attacks on the public, deserve so much better.

IMO the most worrying at the moment is Trump’s threat to use military force to annex the Panama Canal and Greenland.

Canada was mentioned by Trump as becoming the 51st state, but that is not foremost on his mind at the moment.

With regards to Panama, I think this is a tactic that Trump uses and which has been mentioned on here - of using threatening tactics to get what he wants - which in this case is to reduce the cost of USA shipping using the canal.

Greenland - I think the possibility of a land very rich in mineral resources are getting the better if him.

Never-the-less his rhetoric is something that must be met with firmness, and he must be made to realise that there are ways of proceeding and these do not include military threats.

I listened to part of his speech. Sounded like gobbledegook to me.I didn’t understand what he was rambling on about apart from being ‘the best at everything’. My partner says that, later on in his speech he was critical of Jimmy Carter. I’m glad I didn’t hear that bit angry.

Certainly makes life interesting these days. Not a lot we can do about it,though.

Ladyleft I know we have a difficult 4 years ahead here!

Wasn't he also going to build a wall? What happened to that?
The man is ridiculous and these statements are nonsense. The problem with Trump is that he feels he needs to say this crazy stuff because he thinks people believe him (which some actually do!) and also because his little rich friend is getting all the media attention right now and he isn't. Infantile behaviour.

President elect Trump was in fighting mood yesterday with his promise that 'all hell will break loose' should Hamas not return the remaining hostages before his inauguration.
He also wants to take by force if necessary, Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Oh and the little matter of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Strap in everyone, we're in for a bumpy ride.
