Trump in fighting mood

President elect Trump was in fighting mood yesterday with his promise that 'all hell will break loose' should Hamas not return the remaining hostages before his inauguration.
He also wants to take by force if necessary, Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Oh and the little matter of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Strap in everyone, we're in for a bumpy ride.

I’m shocked imaround didn’t know about the death penalty. He is even more odious than I thought.

Well what I like most about Melania is she has self respect. Why would she try to engage these people who dislike her & her husband. She doesn’t defer to them - she knows they aren't better than her like they pretend to be. If they think she’s going to play their games, they’re going to be disappointed. She’ll create her own path. She’s strong & classy. Good for her!

She has self respect but seems happy to remain in what appears to be a sham of a marriage. And, no, I don’t have proof of that but they seemed to be estranged before he became president again. As for comments about Trump, I’ll never forget him implying that a lady reporter was on her period when she tried to ask him questions. Along with lewd gestures when campaigning and being vile towards disabled people, I’m not going to leap to his defence when people say things about him that might or might not be true. It’s what he does to other people.

I don’t see it it as sad at all that Michelle Obama had another commitment so wasn’t there. She has always been an independent woman with her own career, not a trophy wife. Good for her.

But Jimmy Carter was a Democrat and an honourable man, a good President.
I'm surprised she wasn't at the funeral unless it was a matter of life or death or a real problem with a child

It's a matter of respect.

imaround Fri 10-Jan-25 22:00:15

To bad that they don't care enough about women to stop 2 states from using the death penalty for abortion.

Galaxy Fri 10-Jan-25 21:49:20

Well yes the Democrats handed that to him on a plate. He must have thought all his Christmases had come at once.

NanKate Fri 10-Jan-25 21:45:33

Although I dislike Trump intensely, he has one saving grace imo - he wants to keep women’s sport entirely for biological women.

A woman who stays and supports, really or apparently, a bad ruler, dictator or criminal - is NOT innocent. I am pretty sure she doesn't stay out of love or true admiration of this terrible man. I can't feel sorry for her, but the choice is hers.

I do not know enought to comment on Melania Trump, but for many women, even the wives of rich and powerful men, the chocie is not theirs. Coercion and abuse are oresent at all levels of society, even the highest.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 10-Jan-25 21:33:39

I was never one who counted Melania as a victim. She is a strong woman in my opinion.

I agree with you on both points FGT. No one should be judging anyone else marriages. She is a big girl who made her choice and only she can decide if she is getting what she wants out of it. Presumably she is.

I also agree that they both love Barron and want the best for him.

But she is no victim, like I have seen countless people say here and other places online.

Louella12 Fri 10-Jan-25 21:22:48

Ridiculous to be sorry for her. She's an adult and is well aware of what's what.

Many people were convinced she'd leave him after he lost the election to Biden. But they were wrong

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 10-Jan-25 21:18:24

I don’t imagine she wants anyone to feel sorry for her.
Why should she?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 10-Jan-25 21:16:56

Well 20+ years is some going. Longer than some so called ‘happy’ marriages. They share a much loved son, Barron. I think they’ve achieved a level of compromise that suits them both. Who are we to speculate?

imaround Fri 10-Jan-25 21:16:30

Because Melania has made very clear in the past that she doesn't want to be involved with the FLOTUS position. She was rarely seen with Trump during the campaign.

It is sad that Michelle had another engagement and couldnt attend.

I will be clear, it doesn't bother me who was there or wasn't, I am just pointing out my surprise that Melania was there based on her past behavior as FLOTUS.

I am glad they all sat together and acted like adults, as it should be.

I was surprised to see her at Carters funeral

How so imaround?
As the wife of the POTUS in waiting I thought it was a sincere way to show her respects. I admired her very much for doing so. Michele Obama cited ‘a clash of engagements’.

It was also exactly a year since Melania’s own much loved mother died. She did well to remain so composed I thought.

imaround Fri 10-Jan-25 20:53:46

Melania is not a captive audience. I used to feel for her too, then her staff started releasing tapes of what she has said in private. She knows who he is and stays. I was surprised to see her at Carters funeral and will also be surprised if she moves into the White House. Actually, I will be surprised if he moves into it.

Trump is a convicted felon. The unconditional discharge just means they acknowledge he is a felon but can not be sentenced to jail because he is POTUS.

The Jack Smith files, volume 1, is expected to be released as soon as Monday. If the Supreme Court doesn't block them, we should be getting a real good look at the other felonies he was involved in but will never be tried for, including but not limited to, an insurrection and making classifed files available to other countries via Maralago.

Musk is hosting (can't remember when) a member of the AfD on X soon.

X is now a far right cesspool and people are fleeing it quickly. Facebook just announced that it is going down the same path and has fired all the fact checkers. Labeling your wife as property is now allowed. Same for anti LGBTQ statements, including slurs.

By the way, Facebook used blackmarket copyrighted documents to train their AI and is currently tangled in lawsuits.

None of these billionaires care about any of us. We are commodities to them and they will absolutely throw us all under the bus to achieve more money and power.

Casdon Fri 10-Jan-25 20:50:19

I think it’s pointless to fight back on X, because it’s become very antagonistic, and people are so rude, let the haters hate is my take on it. I noticed in the news that universities in the UK are coming off it in large numbers. It’s not a healthy environment.

The first was related to the fires in California.

It flows I am sure from Trumps rhetoric.

How on earth do we fight such gross awfulness?

Come off X is my solution. Millions have already done so, and it’s losing advertisers too. The more extreme it gets, the less universally popular it will be.

I have tbh I do go on bluesky, but someone this week said that we shouldn’t leave it to the haters, and should fight back - not that I would do much fighting as I never post on either - just read.

Well we could think about why people are turning away from the left. That might help.

I read that Musk is getting his ‘information’ about other countries from extremists writing on Twitter. Which is why he thinks Robinson is a good guy.

Wyllow3 Fri 10-Jan-25 20:21:25

If its available in the UK both shouldn't be OK.

The latter example directly related to Musk's posts on gangs.
How to spread hatred, I don't want him in UK life.
