Will Trump Last The 4 Year Term?

He's 79 in June and his increasingly bizarre pronouncements, erratic behaviour on the campaign trail and reports that he temporarily fell asleep (?) during Jimmy Carter's funeral leads me to wonder if his confusion is a pointer to dementia.

Exactly the reason he has openly declared President Biden to be unfit for office.

So maybe it's as well he has Musk to make his decisions for him.

One good thing, though - he has lost the orange hair. He looks much better now.

I do wish he wouldn't always look so pugilistic.

That mouth! 😠

I noticed that - a belligerent pursing of the mouth and conversely, at other times, a self-satisfied smirk.

I wish I could 'un-see' it because I don't usually like to be critical of a person's appearance - even with people I really don't like - but for me it seems to signify a large part of his personality.

Of course someone might tell me that I don't know him, which I don't, however he has made it quite clear what he believes in - and that is why millions of Americans voted for him. So, in that respect, I know as much about him as they do.

I agree that Trump shows signs of mental decline, there were those speeches he gave at rallies where he kept rambling on incoherently about Hannibal Lecter. And am not just saying because I dislike the man - though I do - am saying it because I witnessed it and it didn’t look sane.

No worse that kH then, because she never made any sense, or Biden but he has the start of dementia as an excuse for sure 😔 in fact, since President Trump has took over, Biden looks positively elated 😊

At least he doesn’t confuse hostages with sausages unlike someone else in politics!

That was actually priceless 😂

Starmer did not confuse anything, he just had one of those slips of the tongue that all of us are prone too. Unfortunately, in his case, he did it in public.

How pathetic, he said the wrong word, are you seriously suggesting Starmer couldn't identify a sausage or a hostage if he was presented with one? Oh yes says Starmer I tried to put that young woman in the fryingpan as I was confused about if she was a hostage or a sausage. Of course you aren't, just another cheap shot.

Never knew there were so many medicos on here diagnosing mental decline. I think Trump is very, very good for his age and can’t see any decline whatsoever but what would I know? I don’t have a medical degree unlike others on here.

I am wondering if you have seen any of his speeches in full ?

Calendargirl Mon 20-Jan-25 10:17:51

Not everyone who closes their eyes…is sleeping

No, they are just ‘resting their eyes’.

My father's youngest sister is still alive at 97 and until 6 months ago was till living independently at home. Not many women of 81 (me) have members of the generation above them still alive!

The widow of one of my father's brothers, also aged 97 died on Christmas day, 2024.

I saw a photo of President-elect Trump with Prime Minister Netanyahu the other night. I didn't think President- elect Trump looked awfully well, but perhaps he was just tired.
In my opinion he probably will last the term, he's a very determined person and I could see him living to a very old age, however, none of us have a crystal ball.

Genetics play a part too, as well as diet and lifestyle and I know nonagenarians and centenarians who didn't eat a good diet - and smoked although they did give up in their 70s I think.

Trump's mother lived to 88 and his father to 93.

... yes, there is that - genes certainly do play a part.

His mother might have lived even longer had she not been brutally attacked ('mugged') whilst out shopping - according to Wiki, she suffered a brain haemorrhage during the attack.

So, yes, Trump has family 'longevity' on his side.

I still think his diet will have an effect on him - not to mention the excessive consumption of diet-coke.

My father died at 43 and my grandfather was not only at his funeral but at the funeral of 3 other sons and 2 daughters. All adults so not babies dying. My GM was there for 5 of them. Not sure what happened with the genetics there. All different causes of death with the sons, I think they all drank alcohol and certainly my father smoked. With the sisters the BRCA gene was the issue and although it eventually claimed my GM she was much older than her daughters and her own sister lived well into her 80s.

My suspicion at this point is that Trump will last the four years, but at the end of the day, who knows? Nobody’s got a crystal ball have they? So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Some of us might not be here in 4 years, no one knows do they and it isn't just age. My late FIL died in his 20s when DH was a newborn, my father died at 43. There are no guarantees.

Here is part of that speech. It's incredibly offensive as well as utterly bizarre.

My father lived to be 92 and died after a short illness. He was still active and on the committee of three local organisations, and during his final illness were issuing bulletins, as if he was royalty, because so many people were enquiring after his health, probably because once he died they were going to have find someone else to do all the organising he did.

So at 78 Trump will not inevitably be senile and unable to do the job of President at 82, or even have any signs of mental decline. It just that from 75 onwards, the probability of death, serious illness, or mental decline rises rapidly.

Lets face it Rupert Murdoch is 93, 15 years older than Trump. In those 15 years he has ruled News Corp and his family with a rod of iron, and , I think, worked he way through several wives as well.

All of that is true. Except trump already shows signs of mental decline , though I believe some of this is just his deranged personality. God help them across the pond.

stella1949 Sat 18-Jan-25 01:59:00

The biggest predictors of early death, are smoking and drinking alcohol. Trump has never smoked , and he also never drinks . He also has good genes . I imagine he will live a good long life.

That photo is interesting, to say the least. I do not think it giving the impression he wanted it to though.
