Today it’s Memorial Day for MLK in the US overshadowed by the TRUMP Inauguration … wonder what he would think of US politics …

This all seems not very Christian to me
It's the total opposite of the Christian message.

A court blocked his EO that blocked the 14th Amendment as unconstitutional.

Trump said they will appeal and that the problem is the case was put in front of the wrong judge.

The judge was appointed by Regan and he said in his 40 years on the bench he has never seen anything more blate tly unconstitutional. confused

The Bishop who asked Trump to be a true Christian is now getting death threats from Trump supporters. A Georgia republican has suggested she be deported, despite being born in New Jersey.

Republicans in DC have reportedly called for a boycot of the church.

This all seems not very Christian to me.

Wyllow, I don't know the answer to your question about what are the means of enforcement. The EEOC has been active since 1965, so I am going to have to dig into this to find the answer.

Well, it was blatantly obvious that what he was proposing was going to badly affect the poor in the US.

The problem is (and it applies to the UK, too) that the economic dogma that the US and the UK both adhere to doesn't do anything for the poor . Even though Biden left an economy in apparent good shape its effects didn't 'trickle down' to the poor and were never likely to.

I wonder how these poor souls are going to react.

Yes I feel your comments are very spot onMaizieD*

"Teacher layoffs, bigger classes: Potential federal education cuts could hit GOP’s base hardest"

edition.cnn.com/2025/01/16/politics/trump-education-funding-invs/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

"When the coal mines closed in Bell County, Kentucky, a community that once powered the nation was left forgotten, with few well-paying jobs or prospects. Many of its residents now live in poverty among empty storefronts and the stunning vistas of the Appalachian Mountains.

It’s the sort of place where President-elect Donald Trump’s “America First” message resonated – but also where some of his proposed policies could hit hardest, especially his promise to eliminate the Department of Education and slash federal funds to public schools."

I imagine the same will be felt with health funding cuts - watch this space.

*Trump has likeable qualities* Please give me a couple? I'm intrigued.

He seems to be fond of his children?

Um, trying to think of another one 🤔

No. Here is (one of) the rule he overturned

www.dol.gov/agencies/ofccp/executive-order-11246/as-amended

It sounds like a great thing, hiring on merit only, but what it really does is allow the government (and companies) to do whatever they want to because no one is checking any more.

It will affect women, minorities, the LGBTQ community and possibly Muslims to be honest.

This still concerns me - they have removed affirmative action, but we are getting 2 different versions up thread -

so to ask, what are the legal means left where an employer is racist or misogynist and the best person doesn't get the job because of prejudice even tho best on merit?

These prejudices haven't gone away.

Bee,mJust because you don't like an address made, or agree with certain things, does not mean you hate the person, far from it. I don't know what paths my grandchildren take for instance but wouldn't stop me loving or wanting their happiness.
Trump has likeable qualities, however I thought the way he rubbished Bidens time in office at his Inauguration embarrassingly rude and arrogant and to compare himself almost as a Messiah stupid. I think we have gone too far with certain things.
I sincerely hope the Amerucan people get what they voted for.
Same with the Bishop, I wouldn't go to one of her services, didn't like her address but don't doubt others do.

Galaxy Thu 23-Jan-25 06:12:49

You asked a question about where I was and expressed surprise that I knew lgb people who thought differently, I explained why that might be.

imaround Thu 23-Jan-25 01:43:33

Galaxy: I'm a bit confused, I do not understand how you being gender critical has anything to do with my post regarding reversing equal opportunity for ALL groups. I must have missed something.

Nanna8 - I cant recall ever saying anyone was racist, uninformed, or ignorant. I am glad that your Trump supporting friends are happy with the outcome of the election. I hope it works out for them they way they envision it will.

nanna8 Thu 23-Jan-25 01:12:19

The Americans I know all actually voted for Trump and are looking forward to a new era of positivity. They are certainly not ignorant, uninformed or racists. We shall see but I would say ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.

Galaxy Thu 23-Jan-25 01:03:37

No in the uk but the people on my timeline are in the states, both of us will tend to hear more from those who have similar views to ourselves, my views are gender critical views, so that is a specific section of the lgb community.

Galaxy Thu 23-Jan-25 01:00:12

We dont allow affirmative action in this country, and to be honest what I have seen in terms of 'positive action' hasnt worked. I fit into two of the categories you mentioned by the way.

imaround Thu 23-Jan-25 00:59:22

Are you in the US Galaxy? I didn't realize that. I have a child in the LGBTQ community and I am not hearing anyone happy about what is happening the US. Especially since 6 states right now are trying to overturn gay marriage.

Good to hear that protections against discrimination are still in place, Galaxy.

Galaxy Thu 23-Jan-25 00:42:45

I think further up it clearly states that discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, etc is covered by their existing legislation. I am as probably everyone knows against identity politics for a range of reasons. I think there is also something quite stereotypical about saying lesbians and gay people should be afraid, pretty much every lesbian on my timeline is in support of some of the measures particularly in relation to womens spaces, I also have lots of gay men saying very clearly they are not afraid and to please not use them as some sort of gotcha. Now obviously my timeline is skewed towards the gender critical but the idea that one particular group all thinks or should feel the same is not helpful.

Wyllow3 Thu 23-Jan-25 00:33:34

The intention may be too take out all affirmative action appointments,

but it's a possible excuse to practice prejudice if it occurs - without legal recourse.

There is merit as in paper qualifications - objective - but also judgments made on subjective decisions - ie "suitability" for a work role in a particular setting.

Galaxy Thu 23-Jan-25 00:04:56

Do you mean those groups are unable to gain employment on merit? I presume that isnt what you mean.

imaround Wed 22-Jan-25 23:46:45

He has revoked the Equal Opportunity Employment Act. I added a screen shot of what that means.

I recommend you actually read the order to get an idea of what this actually means for women, minorities, disabled and LGBTQ in the US.

He has stopped $300 billion of green Infrastructure funding, including stopping already promised funds.

This will put businesses put of business and thousands of people could be laid off.

Iver on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, there were hundreds of reports of accounts suddenly following Trump, Vance and Zuckerburg.

There is proof that democrat leaning search results are being blocked and certain hastags (#Democrat being one of them) were completely blocked in searches.

Just saw an article that META is wanting to pay influencers $5,000 each to put their content on Instagram and Facebook.

Trump mentioned the government having 50% ownership of TikTok when it gets a buyer. Which means we will have state run media and billionaires who have already proven they will censor results.

Meanwhile, over in the US, federal workers have been ordered to report each other for any DEI that may be happening.

www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/us/politics/trump-order-discrimination-federal-hiring.html

Farm workers on California aren't showing up to work. No one is picking our food right now. We are about to have a major food shortage. Egg prices are up 7% this week.

The federal hiring freeze is affecting a ton of people who had just been hired. I have seen several reports of people who sold homes and moved across the country, only to be told they no longer have a job. People are about to be homeless.

The officer that was assaulted at the capital on Jan 6th is frantically trying to get restraining orders against the people who assaulted him, who Trump just released from prison.

Anyone who wants Trump and Musk, by all means go ahead. We would love for you to have them.
