I found this very disturbing, especially the look on his face with the first one.

Read on my phone this morning that he had some type of “word play” of some of the most vile SS German commanders on X- I don’t do X but if true, then that is just appalling

This WAS a Nazi salute, it's like denying a triangle has 3 sides.
Do people not understand Nazi philosophy. There is no "alleged" about it, It was there for all to see in context of the criminal leader. This is where right wing thinking ends up. All nonsense about Musk having ADHD is rubbish as he as done other non verbal signals with full intent. We don't need a referendum on "Can you prove day is night"......

Meanwhile this is circulating on the internet from a former X employee:
What started as US election interference has now spread to other countries. We're currently doing the
same thing in Germany and other
European nations." *We systematically silenced anyone who got in our way. Enforcing the rules when it suited us, and ignoring them when it didn't. Elon Musk himself was deeply involved in these
decisions. Often joking about being
"Black MAGA." Signed, a former employee (a whistleblower) who can't sleep at
night.

“A Hitler salute is a Hitler salute is a Hitler salute,” the prominent German weekly Die Zeit wrote in an editorial.

“There is no need to make this unnecessarily complicated,” the editorial said. “Anyone on a political stage giving a political speech in front of a partly right-wing extremist audience,” — present at the inauguration were several far-right politicians from Germany, Italy, France and Britain — “anyone who raises their right arm in a swinging manner and at an angle several times is doing the Hitler salute.”

“Anyone who now thinks they have to discover the older ‘Roman salute’ as a supposed Musk reference is, above all, demonstrating their willingness to reinterpret it in a benign way,” it concluded.

This is from the German newspaper Die Welt

Although I don't think the actual salute was meant to be offensive, I now think that Musk is so pissed off with all this deflamatory media attention that he will behave exactly as he has been portrayed..

He should have been ignored.. he will be even more of a menace now

The neo Nazis never ignored him they celebrated from day one of his saluting nonsense !

No it isn’t, it’s nothing to do with Musk and the context in which he used this gesture.
Hands up , but not a salute of any kind 😉those who really dislike Musk and who say this was without doubt a N salute?
Hands up those who really dislike him but don’t think it was?
Well, the second group includes me.
Context is everything.
As other posters have mentioned there are loads of other celebs and sports people who have used this gesture including Obama.
There are/will be many things that Musk does/says to get worked up about but this ain’t one of them IMO.

You are taking contrived photos that X had come up with when you cite Obama . He is not a fascist is he ? There is an excellent article in the German newspaper Die Welt that explains why it 100 percent was a Nazi salute . I noticed NYT quoted it as well , Meanwhile Musk has gotten himself in trouble with the ADL for making silly puns about Nazi leaders in a recent X post . This time they came down on him hard . A German museum has now taken down his portrait . They take these gestures seriously !

Musk on X

"“Don’t say Hess to Nazi accusations! Some people will Goebbels anything down! Stop Gőring your enemies! His pronouns would’ve been He/Himmler! Bet you did nazi that coming,” posted Musk, the world’s richest man, adding laughing-face emojis.

According to the Independent, Elon Musk's daughter Vivien Wilson has publicly condemned the 'salutes' in no uncertain terms.

Vivien Wilson changed her name after having been repeatedly verbally abused by her, mainly absent, father who did not approve of Vivien transitioning to become a woman.

Elon Musk is revelling in being spoken/speculated about, across all forms of media, it’s like oxygen to him.

Why feed his ego?

No this was Nazi salute without being political. In the late 70's the NF had a chant "look seagulls seagulls and pointed to the sky" It was only on closer inspection they were chanting Seig Heil....Chelsea Brighton Millwall matches may come to mind.
In those days Blacks and Asians were a very small minority and defenceless.
The german govt rightly deems this act as being criminal and not a matter of political expression. The action and words were always carried where the Nazis were victorious in various campaigns. The first of these were in locations where jews and minorities were working and residing. Compare this the first of the EO which was against the govt DEI personnel, and the usual Nazi type action of people following orders was enacted, All the DEI workers are suspended on full pay. If this happened in any other country of any govt department it would be news.
However as it is in the US it is given the "aura/blessing" of a justified democratic process.
Then there is the ADL forcing people to believe black is white. Musk has background in white apartheid south africa where the whites were forced to believe that Africans were inferior, when there is no scientific basis at all.

Good post

But if the Germans, who know a bit more about this, believe it to be a NAZI salute?

There was a very good article in Die Welt that said unequivocally that it was a Nazi salute .

Claremont Thu 23-Jan-25 17:30:21

Yes, I understand. My point is that any mention of 'bandwagon of prejudice and ignorance' in context with the nomination of Trump, is risible, in not a funny way.

Allira Thu 23-Jan-25 17:14:44

Ladies please don’t jump on the bandwagon of prejudice & ignorance … research various media outlets & post your own opinion when you come to your own conclusion. Elon Musk has autism so that is why he may appear a bit different. That is why he expresses himself a bit more enthusiastically sometimes, as he did the other day celebrating President Trump’s inauguration. You probably didn’t see the whole context of the video where he put his hand on his heart then threw his arm out at the crowd exclaiming “Thank you for making this happen” to the crowd. Then he turned around repeating the same “Thank you & heart gesture” to those behind him. I’m sorry many of you see things differently; but freedom of speech is one of Elon Musk’s passion in life, so he probably wouldn’t object to your comments - maybe just feel sad. Isn’t that why he bought Twitter - now known as “X”.

Claremont

If you read the post which preceded mine you might realise the context before making an unfounded accusation.

Thank you.

the bandwagon of prejudice & ignorance

Really??

oh the incredible irony sad

Excuse me?

Exactly what do you mean by your post? Are you accusing me of something?

If not then please clarify.

Please think about it- we are talking here about the start of a new era of Trump and Vance, supported by Musk.

And - exactly why are you accusing me of irony?

Please clarify.

Apartheid in South AFrica, that his parents supported strongly and that he grew up in, was not that long ago.
