Having watched the video clip I don’t think it was a Nazi salute. I think it was yet another media beat up. They love to attack right wing types, quite boring really.
I'm not convinced it was meant as a Nazi salute either. I'm trying to be objective.
However, when you say I think it was yet another media beat up. They love to attack right wing types, are you aware that here in the UK, The Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph - all Right-wing leaning media - have a combined circulation of roughly 1.8 million copies; and that only the Daily Mirror and The Guardian are broadly Left-wing, with a combined circulation of roughly 300,000?
The Times, Sunday Times and Evening Standard are more middle of the road in their political coverage - though they all endorsed the Conservative party during the previous general election.
That means our press is more Right-wing than Left.
Musk's gesture is clearly open to interpretation, but it is definitely reminiscent of the Nazi salute, so I don't think there's any reason why the media, Right or Left, shouldn't question it.
Another aspect of this is that controversial headlines sell newspapers, hard copies and online subscriptions. The bigger the readership, the bigger the advertising revenue.
So it's not really a question of the media 'attacking right wing types' at all, since the media is predominantly right-wing - but even they are questioning the salute, as they know their readers will, so are capitalising on the matter.
