Four Israeli female soldiers released this morning

Four young women who have been held hostage by Hamas for 15 months have been released this morning. I dread to think what they have experienced during their captivity.

They are being exchanged for 200 Palestinian prisoners.

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent reported this morning that amongst the Palestinians there will be many convicted criminals who are being extradited to Countries who have agreed to accept them. They will not be allowed to remain in Gaza or the West Bank.

I cannot understand the ratio 4 - 200?

Watch out for more shelling next weekend. I don’t think the promised hostage will appear 😥

On Sky news they said Israel had received evidence she was alive. Didn't say what it was, maybe a video or phone call? If she's alive and they say she's coming next week we could hope that's true.

They can’t send a video, they only have 2G. Then there’s the added problem that 80% of their cell towers have been taken out.

So now the American diplomats for Israel are saying that they believe that Jews have a biblical right to the West Bank BBC news today

Why is a large part of the Male population killed 40% , women
and children 60%

Explains why Hamas terrorists and large number of Palestinians, male, look so healthy

It explains why there is malnutrition in Gaza. Restricting calories will result in women and children suffering as well as a large part of the male population.

Common sense.

I think the main reason why hostages/prisoners are released in good shape is it is better PR for the group releasing them. In some cases people taken hostage/prisoner will be well looked after if they are detained in a country with high standards. In the case in Gaza where these people were forcibly taken in horrendous circumstances, their captors need to release them looking well so that they, the captors, seem like decent people with a just cause. How many people in this country and around the world would continue to support the marches if the hostages had come out like those in the concentration camps did, beaten, starved and injured? It's all about PR and perception and mind games. Also, the hostages/prisoners are their currency - a bargaining chip. You don't damage the 'goods', or at least not when you are handing them back and the world is watching.
Why do those released look fit and happy? For similar reasons - they want to reassure their population, and those with relatives still in captivity, that they are doing more than just surviving. I'm willing to bet that captured soldiers in any dispute want to look 'in charge and defiant' to bolster up the courage of those at home.

If you give it some thought it is obvious that there are insufficient calories being delivered for a population of over a million.

There is an agreement for 650 trucks per day to enter Gaza in the temporary peace.

During the war only 40-50 per day were entering Gaza, and by the look of it were feeding Hamas and the hostages.

40-50 trucks a day cannot possibly carry the required amount of calories.

So if Hamas terrorists, the population of Gaza, nor the hostages all look well fed and not malnourished, I’m puzzled by the many claims of starvation in Gaza.

Is it not possible to retain compassion for all innocents who suffer? Whoever they are?

Read reports from the Red Cross, Medicine Sans Frontiers, Unicef. It's not just about food supply at all. This Unicef report has a lot of detail, as does the Red Cross site.

www.unicef.org.uk/donate/children-in-gaza-crisis-appeal/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD6VRsgEBzlYmDJFYMufUhqzc3r3p&gclid=Cj0KCQiA19e8BhCVARIsALpFMgF__0c9-0jvjp5zQw6QtVvVdyMYkJ1NIogYZHdR8UjJCpCFMVbwsuwaAvtnEALw_wcB

Includes "Screened 63,000 children for acute malnutrition, resulting in over 4,000 children being identified and treated with lifesaving nutrition."

Just because we don't see it in some photos, doesnt mean its not there.

I’ve just read that Jews in Milan have cancelled their Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations tomorrow, on Holocaust Memorial Day. It will be the 80th anniversary tomorrow of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. King Charles will be attending commemorations at Auschwitz-Birkenau and Prince William attending commemorations in London tomorrow. How sad the the Jewish community in Milan feel so threatened that they cannot go ahead with memorial commemorations in their city.

How far have we come since 1945?

We are moving back to 1945 , on GransNet it has been referred
to as ‘something which happen in the past ‘. 6 million murdered is something

There have been films on news programmes of people clearly undernourished. Is it only relevant if 100% are starving.

Aren't you happy the hostages have been fed? I bet you'd have been moaning if they looked undernourished. Some times people just seem to want to find fault.

Yet no food aid

Might be harder to get food in some areas. Might be easier for fit young fighter than for the disabled, the elderly, mothers with several children. I assume aid workers and medical staff know the situation better than we do.

There are many, many miles to go before Gaza can begin to be rebuilt.

Not least the war to stop.

The thing is that I don't think Gaza will be rebuilt for the Palestinians.. I think Trump and Neteyanu have completely different plans

Allira Sun 26-Jan-25 13:29:20

Yes.
So many other places too.

So Trump is now saying that he wants Jordan and Egypt to take in Palestinians from Gaza.. Is this the first step to getting rid of Gaza as a separate state I wonder..

He's not offering to take Gazan refugees in to the USA then? Even temporarily while Gaza is rebuilt?

He just wants other countries to do so?
Jordan already houses a huge number of refugees from Syria.

I have said the same, no sign of malnourished in the vast crowd

Fortunately the freed hostages look well fed, no signs of them being malnourished either.

I havn’t seen many in Gaza suffering from starvation or in rags, someone is keeping them well supplied.
Hamas has been using hostage release as a big display of defiance, they will pay for that in civilian lives when the ceasefire ends, Israel will hit hard.

Anniebach Sun 26-Jan-25 12:06:42

I fear so Petra
