Four Israeli female soldiers released this morning

Four young women who have been held hostage by Hamas for 15 months have been released this morning. I dread to think what they have experienced during their captivity.

They are being exchanged for 200 Palestinian prisoners.

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent reported this morning that amongst the Palestinians there will be many convicted criminals who are being extradited to Countries who have agreed to accept them. They will not be allowed to remain in Gaza or the West Bank.

I cannot understand the ratio 4 - 200?

GrannyGravy13 I don't understand the ratio either. It concerns me greatly. What are Hamas planning next? They are barbaric. I just hope and assume Israel do have plan once all the hostages are returned.

Good to hear of releases, I assumed the ratio was related to numbers detained by Israel?

Its very complicated but here are stats

'At the end of June 2024, the Israel Prison Service (IPS) was holding 9,440 Palestinians in detention or in prison on what it defined “security” grounds, including 1,761 from the Gaza Strip.
At that time, the IPS was also holding 1,526 Palestinians, 11 of them from the Gaza Strip, for being in Israel illegally"

I’m so glad they are being released and Hammas need to get a move in and release more and quickly, their poor families still have no idea who is alive still!

It’s greatly disproportionate I agree but still worth it to get hostages back.
If I were in charge there tho my red line would be getting any children out first, then women then men.
Wonderful to get four more back anyway.

These people have been through a very traumatic experience and will need time to recover. I hope the media consider that before hounding them for their stories.

Anniebach Sat 25-Jan-25 10:26:21

They were escorted ! to a stage by masked gunmen whilst documents were exchanged by their captors and Red Cross

Oreo Sat 25-Jan-25 10:29:43

Yes Anniebach amidst blaring music and noisy crowds of hamas and their many supporters waving flags.
A very frightening scene for those women to face.

There are also quite a high percentage of prisoners in Israel who have nothing wrong and have had no trial. Doesn’t excuse any terrorism action from Hammas

Makes be there are not any children left alive. Those two little red haired boys are believed to be dead, but who knows? We can only pray for theirs, and others like them for their safety, and not give up hope for their release.

Anniebach Sat 25-Jan-25 11:16:55

How is it known a high percentage of prisoners had no trial ?

It was in some press but I haven’t got a link, so it may of course be total propaganda. You’re right, I should post actual links!

That didn't take long.

I hoped we might make it past the first page before a negative Israel comment appeared.

maddyone Sat 25-Jan-25 11:59:17

I don’t understand the ratio either GrannyGravy.

However I’m extremely pleased and happy for the four young women, little more than girls really, who have been released this morning. The way they were released, paraded in some sort of military uniforms, on a stage, with armed and masked Hamas terrorists all around them, was horrible, as it was last week, when the three young women were released amid Hamas terrorists and many members of the public, baying and screaming Hamas slogans all around them. All seven women must have been traumatised beyond belief, and it was utterly cruel and barbaric. But this is what we must expect from these uncivilised terrorists?

Two hundred terrorists and criminals will be released tonight in exchange for the four young women. I know that there will be those who will immediately say some were detained without trial. They can believe that if they wish; I don’t. Israel is a democrat state and behaves as such. Incidentally, all the hostages in Gaza were detained without trial, and 1200 Israeli citizens were murdered without trial or a declaration of war.

Anniebach Sat 25-Jan-25 11:59:43

Who would release those numbers, Israel or Hamas ?

maddyone Sat 25-Jan-25 12:01:06

Didn’t take long did it ferry?

theworriedwell Sat 25-Jan-25 12:06:01

Ferry23. Be fair people were saying they didn't understand the disparity in numbers. All Cosy did was put forward a possible explanation.

theworriedwell Sat 25-Jan-25 12:09:17

Sorry Cossy not Cosy.

Anniebach Sat 25-Jan-25 12:10:41

A large number prisoners did not have a trial, this was told the world by Israel or Hamas ?

The masked gunmen and large crowd mocking the hostages
certainly didn’t look malnourished !

maddyone Sat 25-Jan-25 12:11:46

Anniebach

Who would release those numbers, Israel or Hamas ?

Is was reported by SkyNews this morning Annie, that the numbers demanded by Hamas were what has caused the deal to not come to fruition for over a year. I don’t know if SkyNews are correct, but it seems possible. I can certainly understand the hesitancy to make a deal with these being the numbers that Hamas wanted.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 25-Jan-25 12:15:47

Anniebach BBC breakfast news this morning reported the numbers of Palestinians people to be released, including listing some of their crimes.
