Four Israeli female soldiers released this morning

Four young women who have been held hostage by Hamas for 15 months have been released this morning. I dread to think what they have experienced during their captivity.

They are being exchanged for 200 Palestinian prisoners.

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent reported this morning that amongst the Palestinians there will be many convicted criminals who are being extradited to Countries who have agreed to accept them. They will not be allowed to remain in Gaza or the West Bank.

I cannot understand the ratio 4 - 200?

Watch out for more shelling next weekend. I don’t think the promised hostage will appear 😥

The footage cannot be denied, the poor girls how did they
manage to look jovial, fear if they failed obviously

Don’t be fooled by the footage gg13

Don’t forget that it was produced by Hamas and they have a message to give the world.

This is the message Hamas are giving to the world!

Thousands of Hamas, clean undamaged cars, weaponry etc., they haven’t suffered in this war.

Well-fed, strong, healthy too.

It’s the innocent that have been bombed out of their homes whilst these terrorists hid beneath them in their war tunnels, like cowardly rats!

Well unless the masked and armed Hamas operatives were AI generated there is no denying their abundance and weaponry.

Their vehicles are cleaner than those sitting on my driveway!

As for their message to the world I think the free thinking world knows that by now, it is broadcast across all forms of media relentlessly…

I understand that Israel is a democratic country Whitewave, and I also understand that Gaza is run by a terrorist group.
Those are the two facts, not opinions, that matter.

It’s nothing to do with the right, it’s entirely to do with Hamas.

It does help if you are not quite so closed minded maddyone

Hamas was to release four female civilians, they didn’t

I found the footage of the female hostages on their release inside Gaza horrific.

A pod cast.

Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart.

Never heard of Tripe, is it a news channel?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Jan-25 10:02:16

I have just been listening to Trip and really depressingly they have reinforced my pessimism regarding the future for both Israel and Palestine.

I fear perpetual war as long as Hamas and the right in Israel hold the balance of power.

Interestingly for the first time in its history since 1948, there has been a greater number of people emigrating from Israel than entering it. The liberal middle class Israelis are the ones leaving. Tha young poor are the supporters of Netanyahu.

Yes Annie.

Anniebach Sat 25-Jan-25 16:53:50

Maddy they were Jews

maddyone Sat 25-Jan-25 16:46:46

Every single Israeli hostage was innocent. Babies and tiny children were taken hostage. They were innocent. I’m waiting along with others to hear what some people think they did wrong.

There is nothing new about the ratio. Israel has always had to release enormous numbers of Palestinians, or after the Yom Kippur war Syrians to get Israelis safely home again.

Why is this a fact? Put it down to antisemitism. There is no reasonable explanation for it.

Quite.

Today 121 Palestinians (out of the 200) have been released/are being released, and all are convicted murderers and terrorists.

I’m fed up of hearing about how innocent Palestinians are being locked up.
Like AuntieE, I put it down to antisemitism.

Think I overdid the numbers … slip of the fat fingers

Yes, it was a slight exaggeration.

The number is under 10,000.

There are also quite a high percentage of prisoners in Israel who have nothing wrong and have had no trial. Doesn’t excuse any terrorism action from Hammas

Just wondering what you think the hostages did wrong in that case
confused

I was happy to see the young Israeli women released today looking well, waving and smiling. The change over seemed better organised than last week and hope they are ok. It must have been dreadful for them, particularly being soldiers, and do wish them well.

As to numbers of hostages, tens of thousands of palistinians men women and children are held with or without charge or trial by Israel. Some for many years. To agree to only 4 palistinians being freed would not make sense, just a tiny drop in a huge ocean. Many of those released will almost certainly be rearrested in the near future, which is what usually happens.

If only people could live in peace. What a wonderful world it would be.

Wyllow3 Sat 25-Jan-25 13:57:39

I cant find information on it.

I think it's fair enough to ask what the 200 released had been detained for!

I gave the overall figures higher up the page of detained and it includes
"At that time, the IPS was also holding 1,526 Palestinians, 11 of them from the Gaza Strip, for being in Israel illegally".

some stats on detentions without trial here
www.btselem.org/statistics/detainees_and_prisoners

shows a balance between serving sentences and detained under administrative grounds.

Do you know if Hamas said who they wanted released or if it was just numbers agreed and Israel decide who to release. I haven't heard anything explanation if that.

My laptop is out of action and my smart phone isn't as smart as it thinks it is when it comes to searches.

theworriedwell Sat 25-Jan-25 12:31:42

Ferry I said Cossy had given a possible explanation and that is what she did. You have given another. On Sky they are currently saying it was agreed due to pressure from Trump. As I wasn't at the negotiations I don't know which is correct or if it's a mixture or something else.
