I think it's fair enough to ask what the 200 released had been detained for!

shows a balance between serving sentences and detained under administrative grounds.

The BBC news site reports on this, it is called administrative detention and follows on from a law during the British mandate. It allows people to be detained because of a belief they will commit terrorist acts.

It can prevent deaths but on the other hand innocent people can be detained. Israel isn't the only country that does this.

The explanation is that the ratio of prisoners to hostages released is part of the Cease Fire agreement.

As a democratic state, Israel's main concern was the return of the hostages and Hamas knew Israel would pay a high price for their release. So Hamas were able to drive a hard bargain.

It's nothing to do with all these prisoners who have allegedly done nothing and are being held without a trial.

Who would release those numbers, Israel or Hamas ?

Is was reported by SkyNews this morning Annie, that the numbers demanded by Hamas were what has caused the deal to not come to fruition for over a year. I don’t know if SkyNews are correct, but it seems possible. I can certainly understand the hesitancy to make a deal with these being the numbers that Hamas wanted.

A large number prisoners did not have a trial, this was told the world by Israel or Hamas ?

I don’t understand the ratio either GrannyGravy.

However I’m extremely pleased and happy for the four young women, little more than girls really, who have been released this morning. The way they were released, paraded in some sort of military uniforms, on a stage, with armed and masked Hamas terrorists all around them, was horrible, as it was last week, when the three young women were released amid Hamas terrorists and many members of the public, baying and screaming Hamas slogans all around them. All seven women must have been traumatised beyond belief, and it was utterly cruel and barbaric. But this is what we must expect from these uncivilised terrorists?

Two hundred terrorists and criminals will be released tonight in exchange for the four young women. I know that there will be those who will immediately say some were detained without trial. They can believe that if they wish; I don’t. Israel is a democrat state and behaves as such. Incidentally, all the hostages in Gaza were detained without trial, and 1200 Israeli citizens were murdered without trial or a declaration of war.

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent reported this morning that amongst the Palestinians there will be many convicted criminals who are being extradited to Countries who have agreed to accept them. They will not be allowed to remain in Gaza or the West Bank.

I cannot understand the ratio 4 - 200?

There are also quite a high percentage of prisoners in Israel who have nothing wrong and have had no trial. Doesn’t excuse any terrorism action from Hammas

Makes be there are not any children left alive. Those two little red haired boys are believed to be dead, but who knows? We can only pray for theirs, and others like them for their safety, and not give up hope for their release.

It’s greatly disproportionate I agree but still worth it to get hostages back.
If I were in charge there tho my red line would be getting any children out first, then women then men.
Wonderful to get four more back anyway.
