We really should not underestimate the financial power of Trump and the US. Europe was rebuilt after WW2 and rearmed for the Cold War. Compared with that rebuilding Gaza is straightforward.
He can also make it very difficult for countries that rely on US aid and military support.

Not dramatic in any way ronib, just a description of exactly what is different about what is happening in the USA at the moment. You changing tack to talk about aid doesn’t alter what is happening to state employees in all sectors, this is not just about overseas aid.

It's not 'so called aid' Ronib, it's aid.

Aid is spent on many things, including the management of serious disease that could become pandemic (ebola), on research and other causes beneficial to the donating country.

Most other major economies do already contribute to developing countries.

ronib the UK has never made public sector redundancies with no notice, no consultation, or closed down whole sectors of service provision with no alternatives, leaving both workers and clients in state of chaos and for clients, harm. If you can’t see the difference between that and what is now happening in the USA, I despair.

It's the scale of the lay-offs but surely our concerns about the services affected by sudden closures with no plans in place.

btw - worth keeping an eye open to what will happen to hate crimes, currently investigated and prosecuted by either/both individual states or the FBI.

Historically the Uk civil service has made permanent civil servants redundant. It’s not unheard of. Temporary workers are not given the same protections.
