Want to understand what Trump is doing?

Just heard another relative has had funding pulled from a research project that was showing great promise.

Thanks for all the factual updates everyone. The one thing, perhaps the only thing we can do is educate ourselves.

I'm so sorry you are having to live through this Dogwalkingnana. Canada may well become a safe haven for many.

They will be counted in their 10s of thousands.

It matters not a jot to this grotesque man.

The other effect of course is that the USA will loose the influence of soft power it has built up over many years.

China will be ready to pick that up.

I live in the United States and DH and I, our adult children, friends, and neighbors are sick that tRump is in the White House again. Our granddaughter will be going to college in Canada.

We have our first reported death as a result of Trump illegally shutting down USAID. This is going to continue to escalate. More people are going to die.

Putin is celebrating “Bigly” tonight. All his ships have sailed in at once.

Am obviously having a brain fog day - I wish someone else had pointed out America’s long history of buying up other countries - Alaska, Louisiana, Hawaii and a fair few more.

I think that most people are aware of this, perhaps you were off sick the day that was taught?

"Russia and Ukraine
Brussels
CNN
—
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the war between Ukraine and Russia “must end,” that Kyiv joining NATO is unrealistic and that the US will no longer prioritize European and Ukrainian security as the Trump administration shifts its attention to securing the US’ own borders and deterring war with China.

In remarks before a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Hegseth also said that European troops should be the primary force securing a post-war Ukraine—something US troops will not be involved in, he added.

“The United States does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement,” Hegseth said. And he added that any security guarantees offered to Ukraine “must be backed by capable European and non-European troops.”"

Thank you imaround for your up to date, accurate and informative posts !!
There is a lot to keep up with. I am still reeling from that insane nutty briefing of President Elon and his secretary Trump . Apparently, X, Elons son told Trump to shut up and that he is not the president !! Watch those clips !!

In a surprise to no one, the migrants he sent to Gitmo have fallen into a black hole.

Several organizations are suing.

What do you suggest we do, then, PoliticsNerd
Send a posse of Gransnetters over on the next flight to tell them "Look here, this simply isn't cricket. Play by the rules, old chaps, or you'll have us to answer to".

Perhaps not, so let us know when you've sorted it all out, PoliticsNerd

Reading some posts on here is a bit like reading a horoscope. "Tomorrow will be fine. It may seem as if someone with a great deal of power is threatening their own and other democracies but with Venus in their sign many will turn a blind eye to this.

With Aries retrograde we will find things get much gets better after a few wars and the deprivation of people's rights in some countries."

Absolutely it is Wyllow. He keeps getting huge Space X contracts, now will have Tesla contracts and he is creating a payment app through X. That is one of the reasons he shut down the Consumer Protection Board. That is who regulates payment apps.

Trump is not going to pay money for another country. He will invade. He already told reporters last weekend that he had no intention to "purchase" land in GAZA, it will just "belong" to the united states.

This is Musk getting yet more from the huge military/private industrial complex isnt it?

Makes one wonder where exactly they plan to use it.

Elon has removed $80 million from the city if New Yorks bank accounts. FEMA money. Illegal to do.

Looked like we get to spend $400 million on Armored Teslas. I am fairly certain we would like our Social Security more.

The USA annexed Hawaii
The USA purchased Alaska from the Russians. It was not a sovereign country.
Likewise Louisiana (not a country) from Bonaparte.

This was on the cards, wasn't it - threats to any kind of independence of the judiciary.

A lot of watch out for

Another word for it is colonisation or perhaps the phrase ‘empire building’ would be apt.

You know who is taking his "offers" seriously? Canada, Panama, Greenland and Denmark.

Maybe ronib should call them to tell them a polite no thank you is all that it is needed.

Yes, and at the same time, tell all those USAID staff and others that being made redundant can lead to better opportunities. I know we are supposed to respect each other's opinions, but sometimes the tolerance gets stretched.

I would think that, no matter the country, people understand when someone does illegal things.

It is also reasonable to expect the President of the US to follow a law, no matter where you are.

Trumps press secretary just said there is now a Constitutional Crisis in the judiciary. They are going after judges for stopping the illegal activities they are doing.

Perhaps not everyone realises the US Executive Presidential system is different from the Constitutional Monarchy we have in the UK, imaround.

If a polite no is all it took, do you think he would be tearing through our democracy illegally?

I don't think you understand what we are really dealing with.
