Still told to 'get over it, it's done.

And yet only 11 - yes, ELEVEN percent, believe it was a success. And only 24% of Reform. That is just staggering, but not surprising.

Why on earth should we 'get over it'?

fancythat Mon 03-Feb-25 08:50:53

Or rant.

Or worse, I know someone who had a heart attack at what she perceived was a big injustice[not politics related].
It can be proved that that was what happened as she having her heart monitored at the time!

People can and do ruin their health through stress. and angst. And I dont know what else.

All not for me personally.

Not a very clear title or opening post, but from reading the comments, I'm guessing this is about Brexit.

I understand the result was disappointing for many. I occasionally have my own misgivings.

What I don't understand is why some people
get themselves so terribly stressed about it. If you cry for a week, it won't change anything. My mantra it to just accept what is decided, both by the voters or by the government of the time. I've had to do that in the past 6 months, and I've got over it, though I occasionally give out a little sigh!

I don’t think teetotal Trump will be having any boozing sessions with our MP for Clacton in the foreseeable future 😂

I forgot Trump is teetotal. Clacton has mini golf - maybe Trump would like that. wink

What others say.

But if people want to wallow, that is their perogative.

I haven't come across many wallowers, but I've come across loads of people who claim others wallow. Most people I know just want to make the best of a bad job.

And rather than a third runway at Heathrow could we expand and improve Dover and start using ships powered by wind and sun to move more freight that way. Also Harwich and Southampton.
Will email Ed Millibamd
I might email Ed Milliband.

Obviously the plans to expand Dover harbour passed you by.

There’s far more “wallowing” and “bleating” about the Labour government than about Brexit!

LizzieDrip Mon 03-Feb-25 09:10:35

Labour won the democratic election … “get over it”smile

Because bleating about it is neither constructive nor helpful?

You know that this is extremely rude and definitely unhelpful. Bleating hey! No-one is bleating- but with only 11 ELEVEN percent still in favour, the balance has definitely changed.

No-one wants to 'bleat' but with the economy in such dire straits, and that means all of us- something has to be done.

Discussing what can be done to go forwards and somehow redress the damage, is not bleating. Saying (talk about repetition here!) 'get over it' like Ariston, on and on - is much worse than bleating, as it accepts disaster without trying to find ways out. How constructive is this?

fancythat Mon 03-Feb-25 09:13:48

Are people wallowing about that?
I havent met any, but I suppose they do.

Wallowing is not good for anyone.
[I am not counting bereavement. Thankfully I know little about that subject really].

fancythat Mon 03-Feb-25 09:15:04

I was replying to LD.

Oreo Mon 03-Feb-25 09:17:13

I was listening to some political chat on the radio the other day where it was said that it was impossible to say how Brexit affected the economy as it was inextricably mixed up with the massive cost to us of the war in Ukraine and the massive cost of the pandemic.
As time goes on ‘things can only get better’ to use another cliche😃

How do you work that out?

The anti Brexit brigade have had years to voice their objections whereas having a little whine and a moan about Starmer and Reeves has only just got started.

Give us a chance! 😂😂

And we all know what happened to the Labour party when they used that cliché…

Oreo Mon 03-Feb-25 09:26:38

I think some people, mainly on forums only, are extreme wallowers, verging on obsession really about this subject.I think also that Starmer is doing his best to get a deal but has red lines such as no movement of people, and I hope another red line is fishing rights.
Slowly but surely people here will get used to the idea that we have left the EU but are still a part of Europe and life goes on.😃

Yes, Tony Blair and New Labour won the GE twice didn’t they?

I don't know which sites you frequent, but I haven't come across much extreme wallowing. It must be the company you keep.

When people say "get over it". I dont think they mean stop trying to find ways out.
They mean "accept the result".

When I see people talking about Brexit[I presume this has all come from the thread about why are people not celebrating Brexit], some of those who voted Remain, seem to me at least, have far from accepted the result.

If people dont like the result that is one thing.
Not accepting it is quite another. In my opinion.

Indigo8 Mon 03-Feb-25 09:35:38

History shows time and time again that shrugging and deciding to "just get over it" can be a dangerous way to proceed.

Just had a Quick Look online, the latest figures I could find are nothing like the OP’s 🤷‍♀️

Please can we have a link to your figures Claremont

Well we voted yes back in the 70s and people pushed to come out. They didn't get over it did they.

I was one that voted No, in those halcyon days. Did I get over it yes, it didn't rule my life that's for sure, I didn't harp on about it week in, week out. Now we are out, I see life going on, business esses have adapted,we can still visit Europe, we still get goods from Europe, if you want to spend money on them, you can still live and work over there, two of my family have. As for retiring there, Spain etc are putting up so many barriers, I wouldn't even bother. Europe appears to be crumbling anyway, too many fat cats with noses in the trough!!

Oreo Mon 03-Feb-25 09:44:19

Freya5 it’s SM isn’t it, gives the grumblers and ranters about Brexit an outlet. In the past it would have been confined to pub bores and those standing on soap boxes.

Doodledog Mon 03-Feb-25 09:45:53

‘Things can only get better’ was a line from a song, so a quote, not a cliche. Just saying 😉

I assume by 'getting over it' people mean acceptance of a situation. Acceptance doesn't mean the end of debate though and not all debate is 'bleating'.

I agree
