Trump has been busy with his plan for Gaza!

So Gaza is going to become the new Riviera.

It’s a crazy plan but nothing else has worked.

Has mankind learnt nothing from WWII?

How is it supposed to now be OK to displace thousands of people from the place they and their families were born? Nothing justifies the slaughter and brutality with which thousands of innocent civilians living on the Gaza Strip have been treated not to mention the destruction of their homeland.

Cossy Wed 05-Feb-25 11:40:11

I completely agree and I do NOT support Hammas, or their actions in any way.

This kind of action won’t benefit Palestinians or the people living in Israel either.

Doesn’t Netanyahu care about his own people?

Too many innocent on both sides have lost their lives needlessly not just in the most recent conflict, but for decades.

If Gaza became the new Riviera it would become a focus for terrorism, needing to be protected by an army on the ground, an airforce in it's skies and a navy to protect it's sea. Who would want to enjoy a family holiday under those circumstances? Holidaying on Gaza would be like trying to enjoy a party in a cemetery.

When people are oppressed organisations like Hamas thrive. We call them terrorists but they say they are freedom fighters.
Trump's interference will cause even more trouble.

So he can just walk in and take a territory ? No better than Putin, about the same in fact. Unbelievable. I have always thought he was what America needed at this time. This has made me think again. Very scary, could result in a world war - imagine what the Middle East mob would feel with American territory in the middle of their lands.

maddyone Wed 05-Feb-25 11:58:46

It won’t happen.

NonGrannyMoll Wed 05-Feb-25 11:59:33

One of the biggest advantages Trump has got is that too many people dismiss him as a stupid buffoon. A man who advances to such a position of power - twice! - is either (a) exceptionally clever and ruthless (pretending to be dumb so people do nothing more than laugh) or (b) a malleable puppet of others who are clever and ruthless. Stupidity doesn't come into it.

It has been planned for a very long time- but there was a big problem.

'*The danger of a great war*

The fundamental factor that prevents the project from coming to life in practice is the presence of Palestinians in Gaza. The Palestinians should be expelled from that area or put under strict control which is happening these days. Apart from the Palestinians, the obstacle to the canal is the Arab and, more broadly, the Muslim world. There is no doubt that an attempt to build a canal from the Red Sea through Israel to the Ashkelon and Gaza areas could start a major war in the Middle East because it is hard to believe that the Muslim states would do nothing. If no one else, Iran would surely react.'

Ultimately, the obstacle to the canal is Russia, China and their partners. The Chinese and Russians would not stand idly by and watch irreparable damage be done to BRICS and the New Silk Road. If the Israeli canal came to life and Suez fell into the background, it would cut off Moscow and Beijing from the Mediterranean Sea. It is precisely for these reasons that the construction of the Israeli canal could trigger World War III just as the declaration of the State of Israel triggered numerous Arab-Israeli wars that have lasted for 75 years.'

Trump clearly has ambitions to become a new colonial power - Gaza, Greenland and perhaps Canada and Mexico as well ...

As said above, just one of so many. There was one in The Express last year too, but it is behind paywall.

If you have access to The Express (I don't)

Reassured by the tone of this thread and the general opinion of the Orange Man-Child as mad, bad and incredibly dumb.

Not that we can do much about it but at least we are singing off the same hymn sheet.

The Gazans already had the 5* hotels, the country clubs, the fancy shopping malls etc, but they decided to add terror tunnels and attack Israel.

Don't think they'll ever learn.

This was part of the "concept" that Israel mistakenly bought into, that if things were economically good for Gaza, they wouldn't return to terrorism. We're looking at how well that turned out. Not.

Rula Wed 05-Feb-25 13:25:27

This will never happen. I doubt Trump thinks it will either.

Very peculiar and certainly not what I was expecting to hear as a way to sort out Gaza.

I guess the the world will get together to assist in building Gaza back for the residents.

Far-right Israeli minister commends Trump's Gaza plan
From CNN's Michael Schwartz and Mostafa Salem

“Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich commended a plan presented by United States President Donald Trump to remove Palestinians from Gaza and take ownership of the strip”

(CNN newsfeed)

I think it threatens the immediate prospects of cease fire and hostage return. I haven't yet read a single country that supports it. European nations already coming out against it including UK.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 13:40:26

People saying, "it won't happen" (dont agree or disagree atm) - what do you think will happen?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:03:14

Trump x a leader who tells it how it is, and everyone recoils in shock. It is a demolition site, it's unhealthy and is a breeding ground for terrorism.

What are the Arab world, the EU suggestions? Give money to Hamas so they can rebuild? Rebuild their terrorist infrastructure … ?

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:15:37

Please differentiate between ordinary Palestinians who just want to go home and rebuild, and the Hamas.

Or think that foreign owned - money not got into Gaza development - 5* hotels, the country clubs, the fancy shopping malls is actually "an economy".

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:19:42

It won’t happen anyway.

Gazans should not be forced to leave, Lammy insists
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said it should be ensured that Palestinians have a future in their homeland.

His comments come a day after Donald Trump proposed resettling them and taking over Gaza to develop it.

“We’ve always been clear in our belief that we must see two states. We must see Palestinians live and prosper in their homelands in Gaza and the West Bank,” Mr Lammy told a news conference during a trip to Kyiv in Ukraine today.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:22:45

Now Keir joins in the ruckus against Trump for taking a country from its people, yet is doing exactly the same with the Chagosians, surely?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:28:58

Interesting listening to Jake Wallis Simons (Telegraph) being interviewed who says people in Gaza have welcomed Trumps plan and are celebrating.

Maybe put it to the vote then? That’d be a novel idea. Let the people decide.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:31:42

FGT, all European countries who have spoken up have said exactly the same as Starmer/Lammy.

In fact I haven't heard of a single country who agrees with Trump, have you?

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:36:28

I've no problems with any individual Gazan who chooses to be welcomed to move into the Egypt or Jordan approved nice ready built dwelling.

Just the little problem that Egypt and Jordan have refused to support such a scheme.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:54:43

No, I haven’t either Wyllow3 that’s true. But more importantly really is what do the Palestinians think of Trump’s proplosal? An academic question as they’ll never be asked. And the cycle is doomed to repeat itself ad nauseum.

foxie48 Wed 05-Feb-25 14:59:43

FGT JWS spoke to one friend who lives in Gaza , who incidentally has already sent his family out of Gaza and is waiting to go himself. Hardly a representative sample of Gazans. If, as you seem to think, all Gazans are members of Hamas, why on earth would you want them given homes in other countries, surely it's better to have them all in one place? fwiw I don't think Gazans support Hamas but it's not improbable that more young men agree with them now than they did prior to 07/10, that's one of the terrible consequences of this war.
