Trump and Musk Press Conference

I think Trump really really is losing the plot.

Firstly a press conference with Musk and Musk’s 4 year old son (picking his nose in some photos).

Followed by Trump announcing said “the Department of Government Efficiency had found “fraud” and “waste” in the government”

He has handed across so much power to Musk, and freedom, and they speak every day. It’s scary!

For those who didn't watch the video

Trump doesn't look amused.

Everyone's dressed for the occasion (including the child) apart from Musk.

I have to admit though that I have a personal disdain for mature adults wearing baseball caps, so I am biased.

My American friends feel differently, just part of their normal apparel. Presumably he feels the same way? Or at least felt it wasn't offencive to normies?
I'm afraid many moons ago I felt similarly to you Dickens. Until I realised many men here still wear flat caps.
I do miss the social niceties of taking off a hat indoors. History is a different place they do things differently there 🤠

Dickens, in the Brave New Trumpian World, there will be no question of mothers out with their children. They will be far too busy at home, or at the ante natal clinic.

Well I did admit it was a bias on my part, and those sorts of prejudices are often not rational.

I don't even know if I'm a normie anyway!

Yes, times change (as sometimes they should), and I accept that.

I suppose I 'miss' the art of statesmanship - the civility, diplomacy, which usually required a dress-code at events like press conferences, etc. But, at age 83, I'm probably stuck in my ways - and the tech brotherhood is a different world, anyway...

Churchview Fri 14-Feb-25 18:17:52

baseball-cap wearing, middle-aged schoolboy nerd

I worked in many start up tech companies and the entrepreneur CEOs were almost always like this. The kind of boys who were bullied at school and, having found a little kingdom to rule they did so with no charm or empathy. Swaggering around finding new and interesting ways to make everyone feel unsettled whilst wearing T-shirts with obscure band names on and a cap backwards.

imaround Fri 14-Feb-25 18:27:28

Yes hats are worn daily by men in the US, that and jeans is our go to IMO. Not a single man with any substance would have left his hat on in the Oval Office. It is disrespectful.

Churchview, that is a spot on description!

Me neither!
I was primarily thinking of other Americans, when I used this word, which they themselves use. I would guess they would understand the type or group it has been applied to? Even if we don't.

Yes, seems a reasonable request.

Since this is a Musk thread, I will post the update here.

The court case trying to stop Musk from being in Government systems has been assigned a judge.

Tanya Chutkin.

She and Trump have gone rounds before and she has no time for his antics.

This isn't over, but any good news should be celebrated.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Feb-25 21:47:14

Thank you, imaround

I hadn't realised Musk was being taken court on this.

imaround Fri 14-Feb-25 22:05:49

I lost count of all the lawsuits filed. Last I saw there were 12 orders against Trumps illegal actions so far. Orders are coming out all over the country to stop him.

This one is specifically to get Musk and his hackers out of our personal records.

The entire Coast Guard system had a breach of direct deposit for bank accounts and the DOGE site has been hacked. Nothing they have done is secure. We want thier hands off our info.

imaround Fri 14-Feb-25 22:56:13

Appatently Musk "accidentally"released classified data.

"included information about the National Reconnaissance Office, which is tasked with creating and maintaining satellites for U.S. intelligence. Much of the agency’s activities, including its budget and head count, are classified and aren’t supposed to be available to the public."

Thanks iamaround for the updates

The main issue I see us that they will keep play dirtier and dirtier

The rest of us, using the law, won't stop this train wreck

“We just had word that all our fellows and post doc staff are laid off effective immediately. The famous Epidemic Intelligence Service, aka the Disease Detectives, is no more. That’s 1260 staff.

They are calling this ‘Phase 1’"

Welcome to the next worldwide pandemic.

Trump said today that he had to disassemble USAID because they helped to rig the 2020 election. shock

I agree Hithere. For now, they are reluctantly following court orders, but they will keep pushing until they find all the holes they can.

Why aren’t the Democrats getting their act together? They seem pretty rudderless.

Hithere Sat 15-Feb-25 15:25:57

That's a great question

It is very disappointing

Why aren’t the Democrats getting their act together? They seem pretty rudderless.

They are in pockets, in State legislature and in challenging the lawfulness of many edicts, far from rudderless, but I wouldn't actually expect anything else nationally so soon after just 3+ weeks of a new administration.
Seems a pretty pointless question to me as defeated parties in democracies always take time to re group without exception.

Hithere Sat 15-Feb-25 15:54:15

No, what it is going on - it is against the Constitution

You have some Republicans speaking against these EOs

Dear God, this is one very dangerous man, being “puppetted” or even “groomed” by another even more dangerous individual.

I simply cannot understand why ANYONE voted for him!

Hithere Sat 15-Feb-25 16:15:33

Lower grocery prices
