The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

We don't have 'unfettered immigration'.

The 'fetters' on our immigration system slow down the immigration process meaning that people who could be here working and paying tax are unable to do so.

America has more undocumented immigrants than any country in Europe.

I think what's interesting about Trump, Vance and Musk is that they have all been Democrats in the past and I don't think they are true Republicans now. I don't think any of them are motivated by political dogma other than that which will underpin the acquisition of money and power for themselves and I think that also applies to Farage and his ilk. This makes them exactly like Putin and other populist leaders. The clever trick is to find the issues that get the votes, concern about immigration numbers seems to push a lot of buttons these days, and hide the real reason for wanting to be in power behind that hoping that the voters won't realise what you are really doing. If you can find a scapegoat within your own country on which to focus attention, then even better, hence the dismantling of DEI, it's easier to find scapegoats among disadvantaged people. It's working in so many countries ATM, it's truly frightening.

It is being reported by the FBI that Republican Senators received death threats before crucial nominee votes.

In case you are wondering why Republicans are not trying to stop Trump, this is why.

Trump has ordered the firing of any judge Biden appointed. Well, any judge who rules against him.

The White House put photos of immigrants in chains yesterday and labeled it ASMR.

The UK needs to be part of a bloc that can protect its interests in these difficult and darker days and though we decided to exit the EU we do need to more closely aligned with our European neighbours.

We need to urgently rejoin the EU. The vote was so close and we know that there was a lot of Russian interference, so we should roll back to pre 2016.

Spot on

Casdon

How about Trump behaving like an adult president of a superpower with heavy responsibilities to ensure world peace, rather than like a 3 year old who has lost his dummy and is having a tantrum ronib? He isn’t doing this for America.

Anyone who genuinely believes Trump et al give one hoot about anyone other than themselves really really needs to think again!

Delila Thu 20-Feb-25 19:12:30

Putin must be laughing his head off at Trump, who is doing all his work for him.

Trump is after the money, but Putin is after a much bigger prize, and Trump is paving the way for him.

Casdon I don’t think the UK will have any influence over Ukraine and Russia and Trump won’t be at all interested in anything Starmer proposes. It’s just life.

It’s quite shocking how long Ukraine has been fighting- go and ask Ukrainian refugees living here. It’s very sad.

No one is disputing that this war isn’t sad and that it should have ended, however Ukrainians are proud of their country and their leader and simply didn’t want to concede to Russia’s attack! Putin is the only one in the wrong here and frankly it’s nothing to do with Trump bar point scoring and wanting his piece of Ukraine’s rich land, that’s the only “piece” he wants, not peace!

Wyllow3 Thu 20-Feb-25 19:20:01

Completely and utterly gross and shared with "glee".

I did read the article carefully to see if they were possibly in a "violent criminal" category returned to home jail, but no - ordinary deportees

”It’s quite shocking how long Ukraine has been fighting”

Yes it is!

It’s quite shocking how long Russia has continued its invasion of Ukraine.

The war could stop tomorrow - if Putin stopped bombing Ukraine.

Well worth a glance through -

some familiar, some just really gross or bizarre. He just cant stop lying, inventing.

The Trump administration is planning to use polygraphs to assess federal employee loyalty. There are ways to manipulate polygraph results, and we will provide guidance to coalition members. Additionally, polygraph results are not admissible in court due to their potential for false positives and negatives. If you are asked to take a polygraph, it is advisable to seek legal advice to understand your rights.

Wyllow3 Thu 20-Feb-25 20:56:59

an article on it
apnews.com/article/trump-loyalty-white-house-maga-vetting-jobs-768fa5cbcf175652655c86203222f47c

"Some officials have referred to the newcomers sent by the White House to federal agencies disparagingly as “MAGA commissars,” a reference to Communist Party officials from the former Soviet Union.

They are generally young and many do not appear to have particular expertise or background in the portfolios of the agencies in which they are working, according to three U.S. officials, who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

They said the screeners seem to be looking for even the slightest divergence between candidates and Trump’s MAGA movement and “America First” policies. A negative social media post or a photograph with a Trump opponent has been enough for some applications to be rejected or put on hold for further review."

Even asking
"It also asks how they had supported Trump in the 2024 election — with choices including volunteering, fundraising, door-knocking and making phone calls — and to submit a list of their social media handles"

There must be fears about peoples competency to actually do the jobs as opposed to being loyal to MAGA.

Utterly obscene.
Is this what they watch with a tub of popcorn in the Oval Office?
I really feel sickened to the core.

"over Judea and Samaria."
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has passed a resolution in support of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank, The Jerusalem Post learned on Thursday.

The resolution, read by KT McFarland, former deputy national security advisor in US President Donald Trump’s first administration, states that “the United States and its allies should recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.”"

Also, I am seeing reports of the US stopping all arms sales to Ukraine.

Looks like Trumpnis trying to escalate Isreal and Ukraine.

Babs03 Thu 20-Feb-25 21:31:16

He is certainly encouraging both Putin’s and Netanyahu’s expansionist tendencies.
Am just totally mortified by his lack of concern for other countries sovereignty, as in Ukraine belong to Ukrainians and the West Bank belongs to Palestinians, indeed the fact I am even having to say this is absurd.
What is happening??

I can't remember if I posted this. But ProPublica had a look at how Texas' abortion ban is affecting women.

And we just had another questionable salute at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Confrence)

This time Steve Bannon "saluted" while shouting fight, fight, fight.

As always, I am sure it will be brushed off by MAGA.

Grandmabatty Fri 21-Feb-25 09:15:20

Bannon also called for Trump to have a life long presidency which is exactly what others have been saying. They are talking about Trump as a king. Trump himself hinted at this before he was elected, so that's no surprise. It's a dictatorship. I feel so sorry for decent Americans who didn't vote for this.

I was at Doctors appointments all day with ny son, but wanted to drop a note.

I am seeing a bit more unhappy Trump voters on Social media and reports of Republicans in Congress starting to push back.

Obviously it isn't going to stop him, but it is nice to see encouraging news every once in a while.

He won't be done until MAGA cannibalize itself. I am willing to do anything I can do to help that process along. The more people who see the truth the better outcome we will have.

Babs03 Fri 21-Feb-25 23:30:28

Thanx for posting despite obvs being busy with your son’s injuries imaround.
And it is good to hear that some Trump voters are unhappy with how things are turning out, as well as the fact that some Republicans are getting antsy.
