Want to understand what Trump is doing? Part 2
(1001 Posts)The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.
I keep asking myself. The only answer I keep settling on is racism and misogyny.
🤷♀️
How is research on race relations obscene?
The State of Mississippi has ordered the removal of academic research on race relations and gender studies because it could be considered in violation of the states obscenity law.

Did a bit of research. Needing to set the Department of Justice onto big firms cheating on government grants may never need to have been done or less so.
Why?
The money was a series of grants by the USDA (Department of Agriculture who oversaw the handing out and checking of grants.
Musk’s DOGE cut back USDA employees starting early February, ie the ability to monitor and check grants was severely limited.
So when Trump gave an extra billion dollars for bird flu in February, he had cut the workers who could oversee its fair and legal distribution.
So then.....

From today’s Pnut:
“What’s the best industry to be in in this economy? If your answer to that question was tech, finance, or healthcare, you’d be wrong – it’s egg. Cal-Maine Foods, the largest egg producer in the U.S., saw its profits triple over the first quarter of this year compared to Q1 2024. Zooming out, that’s an 8x profit compared to the same quarter in 2022.
Egg prices spiked to an average cost of $5.90 a dozen in February, thanks in part to an outbreak of the bird flu. That’s double the cost in February 2024, and triple what it cost before the bird flu began spreading in February 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Now, the Trump administration’s Justice Department has opened up an investigation into Cal-Maine and other titans of the egg industry over allegations of price-fixing. “Corporate greed is contributing to sky-high egg prices. While Americans struggle to put food on the table, big ag is raking in billions, using the crisis as cover to reap record high profits,” said one leader at a consumer advocacy group. A recent investigation by the Guardian showed that Cal-Maine didn’t experience any bird flu outbreaks in its flocks in 2023, and sold more eggs that year compared to 2021 and 2022.”
Interesting.
Price-fixing must be illegal in America? Or should be.
USDA government assistance was paying for the culled avian-flu infected birds whilst people paid higher prices for eggs.

But it's what the Justice department would have done under any government - its job.
Interesting report FGT. I will have to look at it closer.
I doubt it is a black and white issue and multiple factors led to this, including price gouging.

I mean the Supreme Court have some integrity. After a certain point they must have some self respect.
(Go Saunders Go)
I hope they will have some integrity and draw a line sometime!
The forest plan breaks my heart.
That "kiss my *ss video" - just pathetic little boy.
Have started a thread as Trump raised tariffs on China to 145% crazy games time.
House has passed the SAVE Act, which will disenfranchise 69 million people. The most affected will be married women.

It is already illegal for non citizens to vote in the US.

Trump the negotiator. Is this how we want world leaders to behave?
Trump just asked the Supreme Court if he can fire Jerome Powell at the Federal Reserve. This would be very, very bad.
I am also increasingly aware of him going straight to the Supreme Court for everything he wants now. He keeps losing in court because what he is doing is illegal and unconstitutional. So now he goes straight to the corrupt judges he knows will give him what he wants.
I am not going fall into this trap FGT. I am happy to discuss insider trading in Congress with you if you start a thread about it.
This thread is to specifically discuss what Trump is doing. Actions he is taking. Unpopular the world around.
If you feel that we are bashing him, may I suggest you stop to consider why that is?
Martha Stewart might feel a little aggrieved- she served a prison sentence for insider trading.
Would you like to show us some evidence for that assertion FriedGreenTomatoes2?
How you can excuse this I really don’t understand. Think of the furore over betting on the election date that there was in the UK last year. That was chicken feed.
But they do all do it. Goes with the territory.
I appreciate however that this has become Trump Bashing Central.
It's illegal in the US too Casdon. Not that it matters any more apparently. Trump has turned us into a lawless society.
I am sure they all do it, however this conversation is about what Trump as done specifically.
None of them should be doing it, which is one of the reasons I am supporting AOC/Sanders right now. Because they are trying to stop trading in Congress overall.
There is no ‘I suppose’ about it FriedGreenTomatoes2. It was disgraceful and self serving behaviour, which would be illegal in the UK. If the Democrats had engineered this scenario they woukd be tarred with exactly the same brush.

And now we have suspicions of insider trading. It certainly wouldn't be out of character for any elected officials.
Within the Democrats perhaps historically too?
Politicians are similar (and their teams) I imagine. I bet the Dems aren’t so squeaky clean if any delving were to be done.
Mind you 2 wrongs don’t make a right I suppose.
This substance has a map of the forests Trump plans to decimate. This is in my backyard.

Yes I thought that was almost certain but didn’t expect it to happen quite so quickly.
This from Elizabeth Warren
“I'm calling for an investigation into whether President Trump manipulated the market to benefit his Wall Street donors—all while working people and small businesses paid the price.”
Did Trump help insiders cash in on his tariff flip-flopping? It sure looks like corruption.
