The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Given the amount of pharmaceuticals from China, we all have cause to be extremely concerned, UK too, and thats putting it lightly.
If he had any concern for people who need meds, and that is million and millions, he should have seen it as a no go area for tariffs and reprisals.

Norah, she was fired for being on a "woke" list. That is the reason. They have so far fired all women in leadership positions, maintaining they are DEI hires instead of highly qualified women.

If you pay attention to those he has fired, it is mostly women, black men and white people who disagree with him.

Precisely what I was attempting to ask. The person fired was older jewish woman -- perhaps his own distorted view to DEI?

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 17:01:49

His "merit based" hiring of his cabinet includes an alcoholic Fox News host, a vaccine denyer who had a brain worm, and a TV Doctor known for snake oil sales.

All white men.

He actually just fired highly qualified military leaders because Laura Loomer told him so.

Wow. Just ran across a prime example of how bots on Social Media help shape the viewpoint of the public.

This is a campaign of misinformation being spread in real time.

Elegran Wed 09-Apr-25 17:32:18

I have come across comments on Facebook that sound as though they were written by bots - they are obsessed with a few topics, one of them is setting fire to Teslas. The site reporting on the peaceful demonstrations by over 5 million people across the country had a lot of comments supposedly from pro-Trumpers asking how many Teslas the protesters had burnt today. One of them actually claimed that protesters had attacked and destroyed cars. I wonder whether that will surface in the future as an "eyewitness account"?

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 17:46:03

I try to remember not to interact with too many strangers in SM right now because they are likely bots.

This is the second report I have seen on Federal Workers reporting they are being watched by AI for anti-Trump sentiment.

www.zmescience.com/science/news-science/federal-workers-say-theyre-being-watched-by-ai-for-saying-anything-bad-about-trump-or-musk/

I know that early on, memos from the Cabinet had deliberate mistakes worked in. Different employees got different memos so they could tell who was leaking information.

It all seems very paranoid. But of course Dictators do not want dissent or truth being told.

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 17:53:48

I will also say, the true American on me was disappointed a few Teslas didn't end up in the Boston Harbor last weekend though. Only because of the historical meaning of the act, not because I promote violence.

I do believe things are about to escalate though. Trump supporters are starting to bring weapons to counter protests. Both sides keep getting hit by cars, both deliberately and accidentally.

Trump love nothing more than to be able to declare Marshall Law IMO. And his movement of soldiers in the US gives him an advantage if he does.

My children and I are starting to have conversations about what living under Marshall Law would look like and trying to build supplies needed to be on home lock down if it comes to that. Sad isn't it?

I miss being able to live freely without worrying about what a tyrant is capable of.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Apr-25 17:53:52

I find it very worrying with the way Trump is dealing with dissent and criticism.

I’m glad I don’t live in the USA. My goodness how we take free speech for granted, until we haven’t got it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Apr-25 18:32:02

Trump has blinked. 90 day pause to allow those that haven’t retaliated to “kiss his ass”

Bloody fool.

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 18:46:32

I just saw this. While I like no tariffs, this shows the world what a coward he is. Keep standing up to him world!

This should help our stock market recover, which is excellent news.

Casdon Wed 09-Apr-25 19:15:37

It must be a big relief for you imaround. Let’s hope his continued actions against China, Canada and the EU ( and whoever else) are resolved quickly - I worry, because he is clearly a man who holds grudges.

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 20:34:40

It is good news that the stock market has rebounded quite a bit. We were down almost $200,000 in our retirement accounts.

Signs of spring are also here! Time to clean out the yard and garden and get some food planted.

My neighbor girl is off school today, so she will help me clean out the fairy garden in the front that the neighbor kids play in.

Not everything is bad here all the time. I try to make it a point to find joy every day.

Norah Wed 09-Apr-25 20:56:57

imaround that's nice news.

Dow up 2460 today allowing the 5day to be off only 870.

I read an interesting bit on Social Security today (USA retirement benefits, from the government, people pay in by their pay packet) -- my brother receives that benefit, I wonder if POTUS will let it stand.

Clearly my brother's private retirement pension is what he subsists on, but his Social Security would be difficult to lose.

imaround Wed 09-Apr-25 22:16:14

They can't just shut it down, luckily. But Musk has caused massive issues with the software.

The more likely scenario will be that Musk accidentally shuts the system down and people don't get payments for April or May.

They actually want to privatize it. Which will make the billionaires into trillionaires. And, as we have seen the last few days, all it takes is a single person to crash the market.

I haven't researched privatization close enough to have an opinion on it yet. But I do not trust the powers to be, so I am cautious.

If they wanted to truly fix social security, all they would need to do is remove the taxable maximum and we would be able to care for our seniors and disabled better.

Why can't links be simple any longer? Sorry about that.

This was a really good article on the tax cap and what it would bring in. There are some things in there I wouldn't have thought of.

And now we have suspicions of insider trading. It certainly wouldn't be out of character for any elected officials. confused

Oh I believe that!

NY Times did an article about what data Musk now has on every American. I am posting the gizmodo article though since it isn't behind a paywall.

"The Times reports that the Trump administration is attempting to centralize a host of datasets from agencies across the government, with the apparent goal of the “consolidation” of those siloed records. This, the newspaper says, raises “the prospect of creating a kind of data trove about Americans that the government has never had before.”

The list of potential data categories that DOGE could access via this effort includes credit and debit card numbers, your employer’s name, your IP address, the high school and/or college you went to, your mother’s maiden name, medical and academic records, your spouse’s personal information, tax, credit, health, and employment history, and much, much more."

gizmodo.com/heres-all-of-the-data-that-elon-musks-doge-may-have-on-you-and-your-family-2000587154

They are literally monitoring federal employees for anti Trump sentiment with AI. I can't begin to imagine what they can unleash on the American people.

imaround Thu 10-Apr-25 03:50:43

He has directed the DOJ to investigate 2 men from his first term cabinet for treason.

His rhetoric is escalating. He mentioned something about liberals and treason recently too.

www.yahoo.com/news/trump-accuses-ex-dhs-official-012444650.html

Treason is punishable by death in the US.

Yes I thought that was almost certain but didn’t expect it to happen quite so quickly.

This from Elizabeth Warren

“I'm calling for an investigation into whether President Trump manipulated the market to benefit his Wall Street donors—all while working people and small businesses paid the price.”

Did Trump help insiders cash in on his tariff flip-flopping? It sure looks like corruption.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 10-Apr-25 08:04:41

Look

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 10-Apr-25 08:26:06

Thank you for introducing Laura Loomer to me, imaround. I feel that this crackpot/ fantasist/ paranoid individual will feel right at home amongst Mr Trump's advisory team ..... shockingly.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 10-Apr-25 08:32:40

WWM and imaround, I understand that the foul mouthed charmer, Marjorie Taylor Green, moved her money from stocks to safer waters just before the tariff war was announced- coincidence, or??
Presumably she is now able to act on Mr Trump's advice and rebuy, at rates much more favourable to her.

Wyllow3 Thu 10-Apr-25 10:41:28

Nearly all the front pages this morning - Trump climb down.

No surprise "treason" being mentioned. All the hallmarks of moving towards dictatorship. One by one.
