I have just listened to J D Vance’s speech in Munich today.

It was absolutely spot on, what a man!

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Feb-25 19:00:15

Agreed MaizieD. Not forgetting the list of banned words … very ‘free speech’!

^Wake up and smell the coffee.^

I think it's time people woke up and smelled the sewage that's coming out of the USA

I think it shows how disenfranchised some of the UK electorate are with our home grown politicians.

It’s not stirring the pot. It’s called having an alternative point of view and being allowed to air it. That’s freedom of speech.

Is it like this 'freedom of speech'?

Pentagon school libraries closed so that the thought police freedom of speech lovers can weed out books containing banned words and ideas.

I don't know how you lot manage to live with the hypocrisy

I understand that you love Mr Vance's stance on immigration and free speech.
How are you with his opposition to all forms of abortion including the morning after pill, even following rape, and his plans to limit availability to contraception?

I do not agree with Vance re abortion just as I do not agree with Farage, Badenoch or Starmer on everything.

I just loved the key point, the elephant in the room or as he put it “ the enemy from within”.

There are many of us out here who feel exactly as I do and I believe we are welcoming our enemies, feeding, educating, homing and clothing them.

Then people act surprised when they turn against us.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

I really feel the tide is turning.

I feel that too, but I think it’s going to take a few months before Americans feel the impact and see what a huge mistake they made electing Trump, it’s to the good for the UK though, it reduces the risk of us moving right because our electorate will can the impact of his policies on ordinary peoples lives there.

Maremia Fri 14-Feb-25 18:20:23

Actually, if you read posts from Canada, the ordinary Folk are starting to do just that.
I mean, do we really want toxic chlorinated chicken?

Maremia Fri 14-Feb-25 18:18:45

Bravo!

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Feb-25 18:17:58

OK, Trump allegedly ‘thinks outside the box’ and wants a new world order.

Here’s an idea.

Europe (including the UK) tell Trump et al to p* off. We form a European Army to protect ourselves against Putin’s future aggression.

We trade across Europe (there’s 28 countries) and we negotiate trade deals with China / Canada / India. So Trump can stick his tariffs where the sun don’t shine. Europe DOES NOT trade with the US. We’ll manage without Teslas!

In this new world order America no longer calls the shots because it ain’t putting any money in. So, we tell America to remove its military bases from European soil - immediately! We no longer need, or want, American protection!

If Trump wants a new world order… let’s give him one!

Maremia Fri 14-Feb-25 18:16:40

For some Folk, Chocolatelovinggran, the only issue is immigration.

Barleyfields Fri 14-Feb-25 18:15:40

Where would we be without them FGT? Better off.

Maremia Fri 14-Feb-25 18:15:01

Mamie... could be true.

Funnily enough, I often think of the song in Alice in Wonderland....
She only does it to annoy because she knows it teases.....

It was refreshing to hear the unvarnished truth spoken by a politician. Are Vance and Trump the only politicians in the world who tell the truth?

Where would we be without them?

Who is this "we" FriedGreenTomatoes2
Unless you are a wealthy American, Trump is not on your side.

Well Russia loved his speech.

"It was very nice to hear Vance's very strong speech," says a correspondent on Rossiya 1, one of Russia’s most-watched TV stations.

“It was a public caning, I can't call it anything else. It was also nice to watch the faces of those listening to him," Asya Yemelyanova goes on, laughingly.

For particular praise, she singles out JD Vance’s remarks that he’s worried about “the threat from within” rather than Russian or Chinese interference in Europe.

Yemelyanova also echoes the US vice-president’s assertion that democracy and free speech are declining in Europe.

This sentiment was always going to go down well with Russian commentators - after all, this is what Kremlin-controlled TV has been saying for years.

From the BBC website.

So, what is the damage that has been done to the 'continent'? It's much better here than in Gaza, Russia, North Korea, Sudan, DRC.
Actually, I think you are just having fun winding us up. You cannot seriously believe President Musk and his hackers are beavering away for the benefit of the ordinary citizens of the USA? Has the price of eggs gone down yet?

Churchview Fri 14-Feb-25 18:01:45

A man is given the opportunity to speak freely to the whole of Europe on a subject of his choosing.

He says lack of free speech is the biggest problem Europe faces.

I never thought I would hear an American stand up in Germany and tell Europe to give a freer rein to a far right party.

He was kind of apologising for Russia too. They're not the problem, you are. Their interference in your democratic processes isn't really an issue. Why would he do that?

A 'friend' who was telling us that it's America's way - or you're on your own. At least we know where we stand.

woodenspoon Fri 14-Feb-25 18:01:00

Well he’s not wrong is he?

25Avalon Fri 14-Feb-25 17:59:07

That’s just what Vance said Woodenspoon

Thank you HPQ remind me to return the favour on ‘other’ congratulatory threads in due course. ✔️

Rula Fri 14-Feb-25 17:50:27

No need to announce your departure!

I'm just grateful that Trump is getting rid of trans women partaking in women's sports. About time too.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Feb-25 17:50:08

I think British and European politicians have betrayed the whole continent. I doubt any will be held accountable for the scale of the damage they’ve caused but there’s just a glimmer of hope that people will wake up and stop voting for these rotten liberals. Thank you to JDV for telling them they’re on notice.
