Rachel Reeve’s CV

Was it really necessary for our Chancellor to “enhance” her CV if she was up to the job in the first place?
Not “the best part of a decade” at the Bank of England, as she claimed but five years and a few weeks, (some of which time was spent studying for a Master’s at LSE)
In Retail Banking at HBOS she may have been under a cloud regarding her departure after an expenses investigation with serious allegations by her colleagues.
Did she lie or exaggerate- if so, why did she feel it necessary?
Too many politicians over recent years have let us down, I believed Starmer offered integrity with his team.
If she simply got it wrong - well I might have expected better of somebody aiming to have so much influence over the economy and our personal financial welfare.

Apologies if my apostrophe has migrated - blame autocorrect 🤣

Maybe that's why she appears to be out of her depth as Chancellor. She clearly hasn't got the credentials for such an important job no matter what her embellished CV might say.
Reeves should go and take Bridget Phillipson with her.

There seems to be a lot of obfuscation going on and several Labour MP's are closing ranks to defend her and put up a smoke screen.
What have THEY got to hide then?

RosieandherMaw Sat 15-Feb-25 08:32:25

Just seen this!

Matt's cartoon spot-on as usual. Absolutely brilliant!

Smileless2012 Sat 15-Feb-25 08:49:55

Why on earth does KS insist on supporting her? A chancellor who doesn't appear to know that a decade = 10 years and that 5 years and a few weeks isn't just short of a decade!!!

This ⬆️ and along with Phillipson take Starmer, Rayner, Miliband, Cooper and Lammy also.

Well I’ve given up being surprised at the sheer stupidity of politicians even, or especially, the top ones.
A lot of people embroider their CV’s to get a job but don’t usually carry on embroidering them in public speeches even up until recently saying ‘the best part of a decade’ about her time at the BOE.Also it looks highly unlikely that she didn’t know there were concerns about her spending habits at HBOS.
It was a deception and not only makes people wonder about her competence but also her honesty.
Well before the GE she should have corrected/amended that CV when she went into politics actually would have been the best time to do that.

She has lied about her credentials, is doing a lousy job and it’s time she went. I hope someone uncovers evidence that she did know about the investigation into her expenses, contrary to what she claims. What a coincidence that she ‘took voluntary redundancy’ at that time. Her position is already looking pretty untenable, the press won’t stop digging and someone will be more than happy to cough for £££.

Just to clarify, are we talking about a CV or an entry on Linkedin here?

That's like my grandson saying he's "nearly five", when he had his fourth birthday last month!

Rachel Reeves is a silly lady!

Whatever, she’s still a liar

I knew of a man that spent a few hundred pounds on personal stuff using his employer's credit card. He was sent to prison for 2 years. Rachael reeves should be in prison.

Sago Sat 15-Feb-25 10:04:45

My husband was in business banking with a major global bank for 25 years.

To investigate staff was an expensive and lengthy process, first hint of an investigation and they would be off sick!
It was easier to I’ve them a “voluntary redundancy “ package.

None of her mistakes were particularly serious.

However, what bothers me is that it shows an element of carelessness, slap dashery, not checking documents carefully, which are not things I want to see in soeone handling the country's economy or tax system.

The faults in Rachel Reeves that led to this failure to check the facts and think things through can be seen in the sudden removal of the WFA and several other of her foolish actions that have caused maximum fuss over relatively simple activities which could still have been done, but done differently.

Barleyfields Sat 15-Feb-25 10:17:21

I think telling the public several times that she spent the best part of a decade as an economist at the BoE, when in fact she spent just over five years there and was studying for upwards of one of those years, is pretty serious. She was attempting, by deception and lies, to engender confidence in her abilities which is clearly misplaced. How Starmer can support her is beyond my understanding.

Everdene Sat 15-Feb-25 10:25:39

I wonder why she felt the need to continue to repeat the same lie / exaggeration even when it was obvious her “embroidery” had been uncovered. There’s no specific qualification needed to be Chancellor of the Exchequer - many of the previous post holders haven’t had any more relevant qualifications or experience in the financial sector.

Perhaps she felt insecure because of the huge responsibility of being the first female Chancellor and the inevitable media attention that has brought. I’m not defending her at all, just trying to understand why she would get herself in such a mess.

Of course the Labour Party leadership and PR team should have been prepared for the media scrutiny and dealt with the subsequent questions much more effectively especially now the HBOS expenses issue has come to light.

Were you watching Question Time? The Labour MP made the same mistake.

LinkedIn is not Facebook . CV's are posted on there. It's not a frivolous social media app.

My son in law, PhD student , posted his CV on LinkedIn and had 4 businesses asking him for an interview. It's how it's done these days.

Barleyfields Sat 15-Feb-25 10:30:20

I can’t imagine how she thought that her lies wouldn’t be uncovered. Is that arrogance or stupidity, or both? The truth was known by far too many people to remain hidden.

I know that. My daughter has used it for years. I would not class a Linkedin profile as the same as a CV written for a specific job advertised elsewhere.

While I agree with the second part, nevertheless I feel if people can be caught out in the area of the “small things” that has to cast doubt over their general honesty and veracity in the bigger things.
The sheer ineptitude is of course unforgivable - unless it is deliberate n which case, all the more so.

Despite the fact that she appears to have five digits on each hand she doesn't seem to understand that 5 is 5 🖐 and it takes 2 × 5 to make 10 ✋✋

Even a 5 year old knows that.

Oreo Sat 15-Feb-25 12:49:19

Unless the 5 year old wants really to be 9 and a half.
