Casdon I’m with you on the Southport murders. Those 3 sweet girls making friendship bracelets at a Taylor Swift themed day group at the start of their summer holidays were murdered by a psychotic individual. He’d been sectioned 3 times, improved on regular medication and released back into the community where he chose (for gods sake) not to take his meds. Longer lasting medication by injection was offered (probably bluddy cheaper option as always - less monitoring would be needed) but he declined them saying he “didn’t like needles”.

Our treatment of serious MH issues in this country is shameful. It’s expensive to treat. Living within communities should surely ONLY be possible with adequate safeguarding in place otherwise these individuals are a walking time bomb.

His family knew he was a risk. His parents grew up in Rwanda. Terrible atrocities there. The parents are now in hiding, have been given new identities. Probably don’t even live in Wales anymore.

But my point of this thread still stands. These attacks in Europe are becoming more frequent. And never mind Wyllow3 what the mealy mouthed Austrian politician said - the Austrian Police had already told the press there were links to Islamist radicalisation on line.

We need to acknowledge this. Face facts. Stop hand wringing and laying flowers whilst swaying with phone lights and candles at the scenes of devastation.

I think public opinion is hardening. The craven politicians who encouraged all this migration from countries with values different to us in Europe have put us all at risk. Where is safe? Wrong place, wrong time if unlucky. Best stay away from crowds of people. Christmas markets without adequate barrier protection for example? We are sitting ducks, sadly.

Absolutely awful and a senseless waste of lives.

I think it is important to understand that the devastation that surrounds such a tragedy is separate to the understanding of how such tragedies are used to sway public opinion politically. In fact it would be rather easy to say that using the tragedy to further any cause, one against helping refugees for example, is actually less empathetic to the families involved.

I think many on these threads would be singing a different tune if their loved 14 year old grandson had been slaughtered (randomly) in this way. Or the two year old baby girl trapped under that Mini Cooper in her mangled pram. Poor baby. At least she was with her mummy when they both died. Absolutely horrific.

These attacks seem to be on the rise now.
What to do?
‘Nothing’ cannot be the answer. It just can’t.

BevSec, a move to the right is just that, a move to the right, at any age.
You may believe that this is because people are " wiser, and better informed" but might struggle to produce evidence to support this premise.
Is it your contention that those who are left leaning are uninformed and foolish? Do you have evidence for this?

Yes, there is ample evidence on Gransnet if you care to look back at previous threads. Mass killings are not uncommon in Europe or in the UK, but they are far more likely to translate into Gransnet threads with lots of posts if it is assumed that immigrants are involved. Some have learned nothing from Southport, and point the finger before the facts of an incident are even known. It reflects very badly on the level of prejudice.

At what point does tolerance become intolerance? When it affects the wider community? Your town? Your street? Your neighbour? Or, your family? Or, you? Interesting.

Glad you mentioned that final point BlueBelle. I have just heard it on the News and felt that more should have been made of it. Typically bad news takes precedence over good. Probably inevitable!

He may well be but he’s not is he. He’s second generation immigrant. He’s no more British than I’d be a fish if born on the sand. He is Rwandan, like his parents.

He shouldn’t be in this country, nor should they. Valdo Calocane is another. These individuals would not be committing these heinous crimes if they lived in their home countries. Mental health my eye. Nutters is what they are, evil through and through. And the same with the Afghan in Germany and the one in Austria.

If ifs a refused asylum seeker and they commit murder they get to spend their sentence in our overfilled jails, us paying the bills, send them back, close the doors until we have processed who we have as it seems its too hard to implement by anyy government. I would like a breakdown of our prison population, but it wouldn't be printed and we still pay the bills. It doesn't make any difference which party you support, look at the facts. We have to know who’s here.
This recent Nazi group, will quite rightly have the book thrown at them. Anyone acting against this countries safety should be dealt with the full weight of the law. Why do such groups take root, that needs looking at.

We will have to agree to disagree about illegal immigrants/ people not raised in our culture/ or 2nd generation of those not raised in our culture. We have very different views, and we both believe we are right. I respect your right to your views, mine are very different, I am really worried about the future not only of this country but Europe, I believe our values and society are under threat. Angela Merkle was so stupid to open the floodgates, I thought so at the time. It will in time change our European values, it is happening already in Sweden and Fermany, to name but two countries.

What do you mean? All killings are equally abhorrent.

I don't know what the US thinks they are doing weighing in on anything. Most of their mass killings do not involve any kind of minority group. The similarity is only young teens or adults who have had a terrible time in some way. Which is what needs to be addressed.
