Why haven't we heard this speech made nearly a week ago by Gov. Pritzker.

This is worth watching from the beginning although the link will take you further in. This man is a hero.

It's worth remembering that Illinois is slightly bigger than Czechoslovakia or England, and slightly smaller than the Baltic States or Belarus. In South America, the closest country in size to Illinois is Suriname. In Asia, Illinois is just about the size of Nepal, Bangladesh, and Tajikistan. In Africa, it is the closest in size to Tunisia. In other words he is running what we would see as a country, and a country with similar problems to ours.

However, if you find watching his whole speech too much, go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBOJhU2pLMo you will see the bravery of this man.

We have. I picked it up on another thread and watched it. It was impressive, not just his moral courage in saying what he said, but they way said it. This man is an impressive orator, not not the rabble raising kind but the deep and thoughtful kind.

I hope he is seen as a potential Democratic candidate for President.

It is a wonderful speech. I recommend listening to the last 12 minutes as its long. He is warning against a dictatorship, a dictatorship led by Trump, with clarity and eloquence. He's articulate and compassionate and asks "what comes next" in the destruction of democracy in the states.

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Feb-25 14:51:23

Yes, he definitely has to be considered for that potential.

"Tyranny needs your silence....... Democracy needs your courage".

Allira Wed 26-Feb-25 15:07:13

Yes, there was a thread about it.

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Feb-25 15:14:18

I missed it if it was part of a longer thread, but glad for the chance to see this as we rarely get a chance to hear from the democrats and this is them at their best.

Yes, sorry, it was part of a longer thread.

On page 3 of the one asking if Trump was All American or Closet Communist:

A heartfelt speech by the governor of Illinois.

Yes, I missed that clip as so much information was going out in one post. He doesn't mince his words, does he? Draws parallels with the steps along the road to what happened in Germany.

The "full" version in the O/P is a lot to take in but I liked the last 12 mins and the reactions to it.

I was so impressed by this. I did wonder if, having rejected the idea of visiting the USA for the foreseeable future whether Illinois might be worth a visit.

imaround Wed 26-Feb-25 15:49:59

Colorado is nice too. wink

Colorado is nice too. wink

I believe so imaround 😀

Babs03 Wed 26-Feb-25 15:54:30

I saw this and is heartening as well as depressing inasmuch as he speaks the truth, and that truth is pretty horrible.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 26-Feb-25 16:08:47

I've been to Colorado, and Arizona, and New York, and New England, and California, and Florida...
New Orleans and Charleston were on my
to - see list , but not now.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 26-Feb-25 16:09:12

Sorry, that was a hello to imaround.

Elegran Wed 26-Feb-25 16:11:08

We have seen it. He is the kind of man (or woman) needed. He said what had to be said, and he said it calmly and without ranting or rabbleraising, but he left no doubt that he meant what he aid.

Thank you PoliticsNerd for linking this speech. I am not into politics as I don’t know enough or feel I have any powers to effect any change.

Governor Pritzker can certainly talk the talk, what an inspiring and inclusive speech. I only hope this is brought to the attention of the world.

I was impressed by the speech. More people need to stand up to Trump. He's a bully and it's the only way.

westendgirl Wed 26-Feb-25 17:22:26

Yes , ~I do agree that many more need to stand up to Trump and to Musk in whatever way they can. It was encouraging to see Macron correct him so quickly.

I'm sorry I missed it M0nica, but glad I caught up smile

I can only agree with your view. Calm, informative and bold.

If we returned to the USA we would visit Oregon again, it is stunningly beautiful.

PoliticsNerd Wed 26-Feb-25 18:11:13

In true political nerd form I watched it all. It would be good if our government could give a State of the Country speech in a few years time like his State of the State speech. They seem to have done a lot of good things.

Cossy Thu 27-Feb-25 10:11:28

In my book this man is an honest, brave and true patriot, caring about his country and the people living there.

Go Gov Priyzker!! I salute you!

Lovetopaint037 Thu 27-Feb-25 10:33:56

So impressive. What a speech! How different things could be with such a man as president. A man to be respected.

wibblywobblywobblebottom Thu 27-Feb-25 13:13:20

It's been on independent news media for ages. If you watch News at Ten it's hardly surprising you haven't seen it.
