I’m shocked to the core by the absolute rudeness shown to Zelensky by Trump and Vance this afternoon.I’ve never seen anything like it.
However much they disagreed with things Zelensky said it was a terrible thing to see them try and humiliate him on public tv.
How Zelensky kept calm in the face of it I don’t know.
Even for Trump this was a new low. It should have been talks in private.🤬

Churchview Fri 28-Feb-25 21:29:02

Ah yes, of course. Thank you Casdon.

petra Fri 28-Feb-25 21:27:48

I think prior to the meeting someone informed Trump that he won’t see any return on this mining for 15 years.
By which time he’ll be dead.
With a little luck it comes sooner rather than later. šŸ˜‚

There’s a European summit in the UK this weekend, which Zelensky is attending. I think a joint statement will go out after that.

Does the draft dodging Trump think that his behaviour has made him look big in the eyes of the world?

My thought exactly

Iam64 Fri 28-Feb-25 21:20:24

I’m still feeling shocked by the bullying, disrespectful, aggressive behaviour shown by Trump and Vance towards Zelensky. They had clearly rehearsed and planned their assault on Zelensky. It was a dreadful thing to watch this decent President treated with such disrespect and disdain.

Churchview Fri 28-Feb-25 21:19:23

Has anyone seen anything from the UK yet?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Feb-25 21:15:56

Heartening to see state leaders giving support to Zelenskyy.

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Feb-25 21:10:26

I think you're right Wyllow and Parsley.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 28-Feb-25 21:09:53

parsley I am afraid that you are correct.

Trumps actions today has heightened the likelihood of war in Europe, the death of NATO and Americas demise as a world power.

I feel very bothered tonight.

Churchview Fri 28-Feb-25 21:09:22

"US senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina, has condemned Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ā€œdisrespectfulā€ behaviour in the Oval Office and questioned whether Washington can continue to ā€œdo businessā€ with the Ukrainian leader.

Graham called the White House meeting a ā€œcomplete, utter disasterā€, adding that he has ā€œnever been more proudā€ of Donald Trump." "He either needs to resign or send somebody over that we can do business with, or he needs to change."

Plan A was to get a money spinning minerals deal. That didn't work. Now Plan B is a concerted effort to remove Zelensky.

Parsley3 Fri 28-Feb-25 21:01:36

My prediction is that now Trump has played his part in the deal that he has struck with Putin to unseat Zelensky, the war will end and Putin will take Ukraine unopposed. He will then set his sights on another land grab (Poland is right to boost its defences). Next, Putin will renege on his promise to give Trump access to Ukraine's minerals and Trump will then have to decide how he can save face. I have no evidence for any of this, of course, but it is what I fear is afoot.

Wyllow3 Fri 28-Feb-25 20:59:58

Its quite clear to me that Trump had nothing to offer peace deal wise concerning Putin.

He wanted the minerals without offering what he lied that he could - a much vaunted "Peace Deal".

Claremont Fri 28-Feb-25 20:59:10

Yes, I feel sick and I am afraid, very afraid. And I wept too.

Barleyfields Fri 28-Feb-25 20:57:49

It was utterly disgraceful and imho a deliberate set-up planned by Trump and Vance, beginning with Trump’s humiliating comments about Zelensky’s clothes.

I have never understood why the minerals agreement would be signed ahead of any assurances of US protection. I’m very glad it hasn’t been signed. I fear Trump may now cease all aid to Ukraine and Lord knows where that will leave Ukraine, Europe and the UK.

Part of me hopes Zelensky won’t grovel. The rest of me fears the consequences if he doesn’t.

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Feb-25 20:55:15

There were two men who were humiliated today and Zelenski wasn't one of them.

I still can't believe what I've seen shock angry.

Sparklefizz Fri 28-Feb-25 20:52:52

I wanted to weep for Zelensky.

NanKate I did. It was distressing to see .... and also terrifying. It was like 2 yobs in the playground picking on someone.

travelsafar Fri 28-Feb-25 20:50:43

Trump has the hump.....he hasn't got his deal for Ukraine's minerals.

Claremont Fri 28-Feb-25 20:50:40

mum2three

I thoroughly enjoyed the scene. Trump speaks his mind...no pussyfooting about with this man. How refreshing after Biden and Obama....sucking up and appeasing.

Only just seen this appalling, dreadful 'conversation' with thos two disgusting bullies as we had visitors tonight.

Mum2three, I am so glad not a single person was not totally disgusted with the treatment of Zelenski.

Shame on them, and shame on you.

And for them to threaten WW3 on the world, and blame Zelenski- is just such terrible thing to do. B*ST*RDS!

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation tweeted, "The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office. And @realDonaldTrump is right: The Kiev regime is "gambling with WWIII."

Russia believes (knows?) America is on their side.

Why wouldn’t he be given that imo they helped to put him there..

Somethings going on here…. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
I’ve got a funny feeling Trump and Putin are carving up the spoils of Ukraine.

If Trump pulls out this WILL be a dangerous game.

He’s up to something. He’s looking to China that’s his biggest threat. He doesn’t want to get tied up in Europe.

But why humiliate Zelensky?

This is his usual self . He is a bully and has always been a bully . He is an absolute shame ,
This time he was really caught on camera for the way he is . I think it is a good thing to emphasize how inept he truly is for this office . The Russians are rubbing their hands in glee .

This is right about the Russians, they are "Admiring"Trump on their state media and of course blaming Zelensky as weak and having a spat. (reported on the CNN timeline)

its now clear what Trump is really like.
