According to Trump on truth social.

Doesn’t he just love drama. Bloody fool.

Mind you😬😬😬.

I reckon he’s going to withdraw from Ukraine.

I am not going to watch it. I can not stand the sound of his voice. U will stay caught up online.

I cant even predict because he makes such unexpected and off the wall decisions.

A few hours is a long time in politics, Trump and Zelensky are now best mates

Europe is totally disunited and the EU is talking about making Ukraine a ā€œsteel porcupineā€, there is no point them making any statements because they will only have to back down and look ridiculous.

It was bizarre. I haven’t watched the whole speech, but it looks like he is taking some big gambles on domestic policy, and if he doesn’t back down, his tariffs will ultimately bring him down to earth with a bump because the economy is already crashing. I also thought he looked quite unwell in the rare pauses in rhetoric, not sure what the implications of that are if Vance steps in.

I wrote a couple of times I thought Zelensky would sign a deal.

As Trump put it, his hand of cards is weak".

What does a steel porcupine mean?

What does a steel porcupine mean?

I have no idea it was in Van der Lydens speech to EU parliament, wanting to arm Ukraine to fight on I guess.

Van der leyen shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near talks about the military after she showed herself to be completely incompetent as German defence minister.

Amazingly horrifying, but in less than two months Trump has turned the world upside down, is pointing the global economy towards a repeat of the 1930's Great Depression and is encouraging us to lurve his 'Best Friend Forever' Vlad Putin.

Maybe Stephen King can get his next novel from this......

Grandmabatty Wed 05-Mar-25 09:26:10

Stephen King has absolutely no time for Trump and his ilk. I follow him on twitter.

Nothing new in the speech at all despite all the Bigly reading out of Zelensky's letter, which we already know about.

Talk about hot air in the big lead up.

Whether Ukraine likes it or not there has to be a peace deal.
Russia has now taken so much of the country and will continue to do so making a peace deal agreement more difficult.

Grandmabatty Thu 06-Mar-25 09:14:09

Cath I despair. You are willing for the Ukraine just to roll over and agree to all demands from Putin and Trump? Have you read any of the posts on here detailing the situation or is that too challenging?

Russia has taken very little of the country and its taken Putin three years and many thousands of deaths of his subjects and allies to achieve it. When his intention was to rollup to Kyiv and take over Ukraine in the space of three days.

Until Trump and Musk intervened he was in no better position than was Zelensky.

Well, he did say some time ago, that America should not act as the world's policeman. He seems to be sticking to that. People have relied on support from America for too long. Now he's telling us to stand on our own feet and not take America for granted.

We’ve never taken support from the USA for granted, Trump speaks utter tosh, his actions have already ā€œalienatedā€ many countries, now China!

Honestly, I do wonder what it is you seem to admire in Trump and how much you actually know about America and history (unless, of course, you live in America in which case I apologise)

The biggest issue, as I see it, is simply rolling over and capitulating, or as Cath appears to see it, Ukraine agreeing to a peace, is that Putin and Trump are ego driven, dictatorial, megalomaniacs, it won’t, and never was going to, end with Ukraine.

Have people learned nothing from history?

* Cossy* I couldn't agree more. Assuming Mr Putin is handed Ukraine, he'll see this as a starter dish of a larger banquet.

It’s very ā€œbiglyā€ scary!

He’s so far; demanded Ukraine’s mineral wealth as the price of peace; treated President Zelensky appallingly; set out a ridiculous plan for Gaza; rejected a proposal from the Arab world for the reconstruction of Gaza; offered Israel everything they need in order to defeat Hamas. If that’s not acting as the world’s policeman then I don’t know what is!
