Who has scored a blinder during the last week.

The whole house (apart from Farage I think although he didn’t make a lot of sense) has praised his efforts.

People like Starmer known for what people say is a boring personality etc, come into their own in times of crises. He is a man without ego, a man of integrity and honesty. A man of intelligence and dependability.

A very stable and sane man who is ‘boringly’ unflappable in a volatile situation

crazyH Mon 03-Mar-25 16:27:24

Absolutely - well done Mr Starmer 👏 👏

Aldom Mon 03-Mar-25 16:34:10

I agree 100% with you Whitewavermark2. Sir Kier has shown himself to be a statesman.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 03-Mar-25 16:34:11

He has stepped up when needed 👏👏👏

Let’s hope that all the meetings and negotiations are fruitful.

At last, he came good.

But can he keep it up?

And three cheers for the king. Monarchies do have a purpose! They dazzle the dumb(Trump) and offer solace to those who have been bruised.

Yes in the midst of what is a confusing and difficult time Starmer came to the fore and proved he can be the grown up in the room.

Yes I believe Starmer spoke with Charles about this meeting and he was happy to do it, with photos showing how comfortable both Zelenskyy and Charles were with each other.
I very much doubt the same will be true of a state visit by Trump, I imagine Charles and Camilla are dreading it.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Mar-25 16:43:53

Watching Camilla over the years, I suspect that she will have the most difficulty trying not to laugh.

There are a number of different routes people can go down. One is to ramp up the rhetoric as to how outraged we all are or not,” Starmer said, adding that the other route is to “roll up my sleeves” and call the two countries’ presidents and find a path forward

Hear, hear, Keir. Let's hope the media and socials will give his way a go.

Rula Mon 03-Mar-25 16:51:19

And I totally agree about Camilla, Whitewavemark2!

Yes, a calm leader is just what we need just now. It's probably what the USA needs, too, but..

Mamie Mon 03-Mar-25 16:59:50

In the Tom Baldwin biography, he says something along the lines of the fact that Keir Starmer has been under-estimated, then over-performed all his life.

Maremia Mon 03-Mar-25 17:03:09

He has earned this praise.

Devorgilla Mon 03-Mar-25 17:03:58

Yes, a great performance by our PM and King. Really showed how it should be done. I am sure KCIII will step up to the mark when Trump arrives. They are well prepared for such occasions. Better keep Anne away though. Maybe KS will get the Nobel prize.

Rula Mon 03-Mar-25 17:05:25

Calm in the face of adversity.

I've not been impressed by Keir's delivery of speech, he's not hugely charismatic and he just never showed much passion.

Which could be seen as a negative, but this is proving him to be exceptional in dealing with this chaos that's unfolding.

So yes, the man deserves a medal for maintaining composure and I never thought I'd say this, we're lucky he's in charge

Rosalyn69 Mon 03-Mar-25 17:06:13

I think Ukraine has become his Falklands.
He has stepped up though.

We always heed a calm and effective leader. Circuses must be found elsewhere. After all, KS is still the same person.

PoliticsNerd Mon 03-Mar-25 17:15:46

heed need

AGAA4 Mon 03-Mar-25 17:16:15

Starmer is the right personality to deal with Trump who is hot headed irrational and unstable. Keir Starmer is the opposite of this.

Ilovedogs22 Mon 03-Mar-25 17:29:15

I'm so delighted that Sir Keir is proving (thus far anyway) all the doubters wrong.
He seems like a a very decent man, whose willing to stand-up &
do the right and honourable thing in his treatment of the very brave Presisdent Selinski.
Watching the debacle of Trump & Vance's treatment of the beleaguered President Selinski on the news was heartbreaking!
They acted like a couple of low-life school bullies towards him!
Truly awful.🤔

Oh dear, I think you may be right! He's not funny at all but he does have that effect on some people.

Yes, well done Sir Keir, you've proved to be a steady hand on the tiller and yes, well done Charles too, this is when the Monarchy comes into its own.

Babs03 Mon 03-Mar-25 17:30:48

We’ve had our fair share of big personalities with small attention spans in government, bringing the circus to the UK, now the biggest circus is in the US, and though Starmer may be dull he is calm and rational with a good head for the law both domestic and international, so let’s bring on the dull, is time for us all to stop treating politics like reality TV.

J52 Mon 03-Mar-25 17:33:06

I think we at last, have a Statesman as a PM, very measured in his approach. As I said before, he and Charles have gravitas compared to those over the pond.

Syracute Mon 03-Mar-25 17:36:41

He played Trump like a violin and even received a compliment from Trump saying that Starmer is a good negotiator . Bring it in for the home run Keir !
