The closure of Port Talbot wasn’t about ‘saving the planet’, nor was it a UK government decision. You’ve been influenced by political spin. Port Talbot belonged to the Indian company, Tata, and the closure if the blast furnace was a commercial decision on their part. That’s what happens when the family silver is sold off abroad.

Thatcher had so much to answer for, as David notes. Her government did irrevocable damage to the UK on so many fronts. I’m forever glad I didn’t vote for her…

As someone who didn't vote for Trump either time, I saw his "true colors" many years ago. Too bad so many others still don't realize what's going on. They must be brain dead.

Since Thatcher started shutting down strategic industries it been 40 yrs of damage. What hasn’t been shut down has been sold off to foreigners we have very few UK owned companies these days, I’m not optimistic that any government is going to improve the nations economy.

I believe Trump’s ancestors were actually from Germany. They changed the spelling of their surname. Makes sense now, doesn’t it?!

Not all Germans supported Hitler, who was in fact Austrian.
Trump's grandfather was in fact ordered to leave Germany and never return. That was many years before the rise of the Nazis.


He is just an arrogant, spoilt bully, perhaps a product of his upbringing perhaps, but I don't think anything can be assumed from the fact Trump's paternal ancestors were German.

Our new Challenger 111 tanks are to be built in Germany in any case, running down our strategic industries is a big mistake and should be reversed immediately.

Certainly Diego Garcia is strategic, that is going to remain a US base for the foreseeable future, the other islands are not inhabitable, without a lot of outside support. Chagos is a non issue and solves a dispute with Mauritius

King Charles is Canada's Head of State. Canada was rightly apoplectic that KC and The Sunshine Kid invited Trump for a State visit. That was ill thought out.

Remember the red neck MAGA voters are uneducated lobcocks with no idea where New York or Moscow are and would be hard pressed to recognise any country on a world map. You are all assuming they are educated internationalists like most Europeans, open to reason and explanation.

Most of Trumps supporters are so lost in conspiracy and Deep State myths, Trump will tell them that everything is going wrong because of all the conspiracy beliefs everyone has and that the Deep State is so entrenched it is undermining everything he does and that the only solution is for him to have a third term as President.

And they will believe him and agree to constitutional change and they will vote him in for a third term.

Hopefully he can’t change the constitution because that’s the only way he could run for a third term.

Perhaps Europe can ask the Americans to remove all their bases from their lands. They give the US an advantage which allows them some of their power. Trump needs to be reminded that Europe does help the US even if they don't give as much money.
That said, I do see why the USA thinks Europe should pay their way but I think it is criminal to behave towards Ukraine the way he has and I can't help wondering why he is quite so in bed with Putin.

I understand that Mr Trump 's BFF, Mr Musk, doesn't think that Canada is a country.
I expect that his former geography teacher is somewhat disappointed.

Early days yet, but there is hope that europe will begin to pull together.

However Denmark will need help trying to hang on to Greenland. The greedy b……d said yesterday it is for “world” security - Ha! We no longer believe that Trump - you are no longer either dependable or predictable and I am inclined to believe that it has nothing to do with world security but everything to do with self enrichment from minerals and oil and gas.

We dont often agree, but I have found myself agreeing with you more lately.
