I just read the news. How tragic.

Gene was in advance state of dementia and had other health issues including heart disease. His younger wife died of a rare lung infection, caused by a virus, most likely a week before Gene died.

Just horrible. I feel badly for both of them, she was deathly ill while unable to care for her husband, who was not in a state to help her or himself.

I suppose the cautionary tale would be to have contact with family or others to check on an elderly couple. My heart goes out to their families.

Very, very sad - tragic. I didn’t see those nasty remarks - how cruel to use such vile names. With some people, an animal’s life is worth more than that of a human 😡

The medical investigator's report is in and both were tragic deaths. I do hope those whose wild speculations were way off the mark now feel regret, especially the posters who used terms such as 'bastard' when they speculated that an innocent dog had been killed by the "suicide pact' couple. It's heartbreaking to think Gene wandered the house not being aware Betsy was dead until he too succumbed. RIP both, love reunited.
