- without warning, in the middle of the night- in the middle of Ramadan.

NOTHING.

Yes AGAA4 that’s what happens in any conflict, you carry on defending by eliminating as many of the enemy as possible until they give up or are routed.

AGAA4 Fri 21-Mar-25 09:57:27

And so the killing goes on in the name of defence.

Doesn’t matter foxie48 that’s the way politics and elections happen, somebody ends up as leader.
Whoever ends up as PM here can often be a close call with them not getting high percentages .

foxie48 Fri 21-Mar-25 09:51:22

Oreo at the last election N got 23% of the votes and 32 seats out of 120. his government is an unstable coalition of groups that he is having to agree with in order to hold on to power. Israel has not had a stable government since 2019 and his government is held together by his coalition with the far right Nationalist party RTZ -Otzma led by Smotrich. 77% of those who voted, did not vote for N or Smotrich, who got 11% pf the votes but currently it's Smotrich who is calling the shots!

Anniebach Fri 21-Mar-25 09:43:59

Yes Oreo “never again”

Oreo Fri 21-Mar-25 09:42:51

Whatever we think on here, or what our friends think, the bottom line is that Israel will protect itself and do whatever is necessary, and that’s it.

Oreo Fri 21-Mar-25 09:40:28

So many friends, it must be wonderful.

I expect you have many young friends there that tell you this Claremont hmm

No, my Jewish friends from Israel are in the same age group, thanks.

Of course BN has many detractors and some with good grounds for wanting him out at the next election for varying reasons, but he was elected to his position and was handed a poisoned chalice through the murdering hamas thugs and supporters in 2023.

Anniebach Fri 21-Mar-25 09:28:04

Obviously no one has told Netanyahu he hasn’t a hope of winning an election

Very few protesters in Israel care about Gazans, but they just understandably want to get the last few hostages back.
The government thinks enough of the pussyfooting around hamas and think a show of strength is the best way to get them back to the negotiating table. They may have it wrong or could well be right.

And this is where you are totally wrong. A larger and larger proportion of Israelis, and Jews all over the world, are ashamed of this genocide and what is happening to Palestinians, and totally against Netanyahu. Your statement shows that you have very little idea of what is going on on the ground.

Anniebach Fri 21-Mar-25 07:59:21

Attempts at sarcasm is wasted on me

foxie48 Fri 21-Mar-25 07:32:32

Investigating, not investing!

foxie48 Fri 21-Mar-25 07:31:45

Netanyahu is using the Trump play book to try to silence those who are again him The latest is the head of Shin Bet, Ronan Bar, who's investing some of N's aids for receiving cash from the Qatari govt. Unfortunately anyone not following something of what is going on in Israeli politics probably won't understand why N is seen as a threat to democracy by many ordinary Israelis. The war in Gaza has almost become a sideshow to N's prime ministership rather than the main event.

growstuff Thu 20-Mar-25 23:29:02

Ooops! Typo alert - don't know where that "against" came from.

So he pleases the far right and angers parliament and the electorate,

Your comment about angering parliament doesn't make sense. The right-wing coalition holds 64 of the 120 seats, so he would be pleasing just over half of parliament (Knesset).

Netanyahu is quite clearly concerned that if he were forced to call an election, he might lose his majority. At the very least, he might be forced to step down as Prime Minister. Being Prime Minister and the war in Gaza have postponed the charges of embezzlement against which were kicking off before October 2023. There are also a number of domestic issues which aren't popular with the electorate. It is absolutely clear that the Israeli electorate is split, but has been united by the war and a common enemy.

So he trying to avoid an early election ? We will see

Yes, he is. Ben-Gvir and Smotrich have stated that they will withdraw their parties from the coalition if the war doesn't continue. Without them, Netanyahu would no longer have a majority and the government would be brought down.

Really, next election in October 2026 , so he chooses to anger the electorate in March 2025 , big mistake

No. The government is a coalition and an early election would be forced if the right-wing faction vote against the government and refuse to endorse the budget. Netanyahu is hanging on by a very narrow margin.

Netanyahu wants to stay in Government so is angering Israelis ?

He's trying to delay an election, which would mean he would be accountable to the electorate. What he's doing now is trying to keep the right-wing faction of his coalition on his side, so that they will vote for the forthcoming budget.

Clearly many.
