- without warning, in the middle of the night- in the middle of Ramadan.

NOTHING.

silverlining48 Wed 26-Mar-25 18:53:02

Not sure what you mean by that remark Galaxy.

Maremia Wed 26-Mar-25 18:51:38

Hamas are horrendous. I have not seen any GN state otherwise, nor have you Anniebach.

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 18:49:26

Nothing changes, bad Israelis, Hamas hero’s.

Maremia Wed 26-Mar-25 18:48:56

Thanks foxie48, re the info about how Israeli over-reaction brought about the formation of Hamas.
Talking about demonstrations, did you see the report about that 80+ Holocaust Surviver being arrested during a pro Gaza march in London?

Galaxy Wed 26-Mar-25 18:39:33

Oh it is quite a while since I have seen the 'but those women were smiling' defense.

silverlining48 Wed 26-Mar-25 18:35:19

Somewhat not sneegat. Where did that come from?

silverlining48 Wed 26-Mar-25 18:34:13

If there was any mocking of the Israeli hostages I didn’t see it, what I saw and heard was a lot of noise from an a huge sneegat disorderly crowd and smiling hostages waving.

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 17:50:31

“Wyllow* if it is true that all those Palestinians were forced to
mock the Israeli hostages ? I was said on this thread , lies have
long talons do they not ?

And seems Hamas had nothing to do with the horrific attack
October 2023: should I say “the alleged attack “?

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Mar-25 17:43:22

Oh Annie.....
I thought this might bring a break in "all Palestinian are Hamas/tools of Hamas."

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 17:31:40

I regret that I doubt the video, we read here so often that Israel
will not allow journalists or anyone entry into Gaza, not even medicines .

Oreo Wed 26-Mar-25 17:02:03

I hope the protest movement against hamas steps up a level.
The fact that the people or some of them have turned against them means that hamas is very weakened now.

foxie48 Wed 26-Mar-25 16:45:05

The Hamas movement was founded after the outbreak of the First Intifada against the 20 year Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. It was sparked by an Israeli truck driver driving into some parked cars, killing some Palestinians. Palestinians reacted to this with protests and a refusal to pay taxes etc, it was a largely peaceful resistance but Israel sent in 80K troops to quell it. They killed over a thousand Palestinians including 240 children. Hamas was the result, partly political and partly military.

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 16:31:07

Wonder how Palestinian supporters of Hamas feel, they certainly were jubilant seeing the mocking of Israeli hostages
And Hamas was founded by Palestinians

Aveline Wed 26-Mar-25 16:25:54

The Israeli government is completely guilty of the murder of 50,000+ innocent Palestinians. At least some of the Israeli army feel shame. Pity about the others.

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 15:55:40

Obviously there are victims in Israeli army the guilty are Hamas not Israeli Government.

A thought, the photograph in the Times today, cameras in Gaza ? All videos have been released by Hamas.

It has been said here the many Palestinians cheering the mocking of Israeli hostages were forced to do so by Hamas. I didn’t believe that accusation but it was said,

foxie48 Wed 26-Mar-25 15:42:46

Hamas is a terrorist organisation whereas Israel is a country and as such is subject to International law. It's what prevents us all from turning into savages, which, of course, Hamas fighters are. I find it worrying that so few think about what effect this war is having on Israeli soldiers, it's hard enough killing combatants but the killing of woman and children must take a very heavy toll. 28 soldiers have committed suicide since 7/10, a huge increase and thousands have been discharged with mental distress.

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 15:06:43

No matter Hamas does follow international rules of war,
what is Israel expected to do, wait for further atrocities

foxie48 Wed 26-Mar-25 14:56:42

I think you'd have to be quite brave to be in a demo against Hamas, the fact that Palestinians don't demonstrate shouldn't be taken as proof that everyone supports Hamas. It's often been said on here that the Gazans elected Hamas but less than half of them voted for Hamas, which was a very different organisation to the one we have 20 years later. Also a very high percentage of the existing population were either too young to vote in 2006 or were not even born but it doesn't stop them being killed and wounded by Israeli bombs. The trouble is as soon as you start to recognise Palestinians as victims rather than the architects of their own fate, the harder it becomes to ignore their deaths and inhuman treatment by the Israeli government. (Just to confirm for about the 100th time, I do not support Hamas, I think their attack on 7/10 was despicable and cowardly and I believe Israel has the right to defend herself but only if the international rules of war are followed)

Anniebach Wed 26-Mar-25 14:19:50

Certainly is very rare to see a demonstration against Hamas , I can’t recall one

Oreo Wed 26-Mar-25 13:37:10

Don’t know about others but I have never said that all Palestinians support hamas but it has to be said that many do, and still do.
It needs thousands to protest and I hope they will.

Hundreds of Palestinians have gathered in northern Gaza for the first demonstration of its kind against Hamas in a rare show of anger against the militant group that led them into a long and devastating war with Israel.

From The Times.

I'm glad. its right that Israeli's should and can demonstrate against Netanyahu's administration, and Palestinians against Hamas.

Now - this means we can have an end of saying "all Palestinians are Hamas", can we? Stop bombing innocents in Gaza please?

Trump has complete amateurs in highly sensitive positions. It probably means they won't question his decisions, even when they should, which is why they are where they are!

FGT I don't think Trump has "nudged" Europe, he has completely undermined the alliances that have maintained some sort of stability in the world. He's playing to his MAGA maniacs, who will love his bullying tactics, rather than being a responsible POTUS with huge power at his fingertips. There were many more diplomatic ways of ensuring European countries step up to defend themselves IMHO he's a complete fool and I actually think he's showing signs of some sort of dementia.

Agree with this totally, is playing to the gallery whilst causing havoc with allies and throwing in his lot with autocrat Putin.
And though he is playing to the home crowd that crowd will turn ugly when trade wars mean they end up being hit in the pocket.
