I don’t call them ‘illegals’.
I think ‘irregular migrants’ best describes those who pay people smugglers don’t you?
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
“Smash the Gangs”.
Not working, nine months in.
And the weather will be getting even more conducive to such crossings soon. Huge numbers are ‘expected’ this summer.
We have no effective deterrent in place and this whole debacle astounds me. What did Labour THINK would happen when Keir Starmer scrapped Rwanda? Mind you, the government are contemplating setting up ‘migrant hubs’ so they must realise the gravity now of this situation.
Big money is being made here. These international gang masters who facilitate these crossings are not going to give up their very lucrative business!
Back to the drawing board Labour. Come up with SOMETHING. Uk taxpayers money is being squandered in the meantime on housing them and looking after all their needs.
What do you think about it all?

I’ve just been reading on the BBC news about how Donald Trump deals with illegal arrivals.
His Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem recently visited a prison in El Salvador which has agreed to take the US illegals.
I can’t honestly think of a more effective deterrent than the set up there.
Keir Starmer take note.
She then warned anyone thinking of entering the US illegally that they could end up there , describing it as one of the tools in their box.
El Salvador prisons are an absolute nightmare, if that doesn’t deter them nothing will…
Visitors are so called because they are visiting. Holidaymakers are so called because they are coming on holiday. Weekenders are people coming just for a weekend.
Illegals are people coming here illegally. Doesn’t matter what nomenclature you use, that’s what they are.

Here is a link to the Kristi Noam visit. Is this how we want to treat people?
Thats for criminals, Shinamae
"The Salvadorean leader confirmed that he had "offered the United States of America the opportunity to outsource part of its prison system".
He clarified that El Salvador would be "willing to take in only convicted criminals" and that his government would do so "in exchange for a fee".
It also includes some US citizens/criminals.

People who enter this country have the right to claim Asylum before further measures.
No way the US way

Quote from this article
"An appeals court in Washington DC upheld a decision by a lower court to put a temporary injunction on the deportation of Venezuelan immigrants under the 1798 act, which allows for the expulsion of foreign citizens with little due process.
The use of the act has drawn an outcry from immigration lawyers and activists who argue that some men accused of being gang members have been sent to El Salvador and locked up in the mega-prison on the basis of little evidence, including simply having tattoos.
Human rights groups have warned that the jail, in which inmates are held in windowless cells and sleep on bare metal bunks, is a "concrete and steel pit".
The White House continues to insist that all those they rounded up are dangerous gang members and were carefully vetted.

Personally I have never come across " Weekender"
Illegal is vile and dehumanising. But then again some people don't regard others as human. Dangerous times.

Clothing firm selling casual clothes designed for Weekenders ie those going away for weekends.
We have weekenders in Devon and Cornwall. They come on a Friday and go home on Sunday evening, (mainly to their 2nd homes). (Andrew Marr, Gordon Ramsay etc. We call them "weekenders", as well as "grockles".).
It’s certainly a harsh regime but the idea is for it to act as a deterrent, a warning to would- be illegal migrants that they are at risk of being sent there.
The Conservatives had the Rwanda plan which Labour immediately cancelled without even retaining it for a period to see if it worked.
As someone on here has already pointed out, it was starting to work as a number of illegal migrants headed for Ireland instead.
Maybe the Rwanda plan was crazy. Maybe it wouldn’t have worked but it was worth giving it a try.
The barge moored off Dorset was also abandoned so what do we have now?
Tens of thousands of young males turning up here are being housed in hotels at our expense.
It’s a farcical situation.
Kirstie Allsopp too.
I read a report recently about a Moraccan Asylum seeker murdering a local man in Hartlepool. Aside from that senseless murder, here is what I fail to understand. Morocco is surely not an unsafe country so why so many from there, also Algeria seeking asylum. These countries do not present the dangers to their citizens that either Syria or Afghanistan do, those landing here from safe countries are hindering the need, by blurring the lines between themselves and those fleeing for their lives. It's insane considering applications from safe havens they're clogging up the system.
It wasn't you, FGT it was a comment to Primrose.
I should have said that.
Apologies.

Don’t be so touchy! I called them “people” so hardly dehumanising.

Our own Supreme Court ruled that Rwanda was not a safe place to be sent because of the conflicts there.
All that money wasted on the plans and not doing any processing becuase it would be 'the answer".
The Rwanda set up was for 50.000 people. It would have been swamped in no time and I dont believe it was a deterrent just because a small number headed for Ireland. The money wasted was absolutely shocking. the smuggling gangs would've known the 50.000 limit not to mention the asylum rule for the right to be assessed in the country of choice.
I do agree it's a really difficult one however.
However I believe that naming individual incidences of crime in the way done just above is just an attempt to "tar all with the same brush". We do have home grown murders, sadly.
Wyllow3 I agree with you. Presumably the Rwanda plan looked good on paper, but seems to have been very poorly thought out. Numerous boats have been coming over since Brexit (now there's a coincidence) and for nearly 10 years no one seems to have come up with a workable plan. Meanwhile no one seems to be making much effort to process the immigrants who are here.

Ah well if one man said that, they must all be the same I suppose.
"These illegals", classy.

What are your suggestions regarding stopping people drowning in the channel curtesy of the people trafficking gangs.
Have you an idea how these people could apply for asylum without risking their lives?

Thats a good question and I think everyone has said it would be a good idea for a very long time. Perhaps other countries wouldnt allow it? As in, who takes responsibility for those in a queue/waiting for processing? Just a guess.
My suggestion is that an efficient system is established as soon as is humanly possible. We managed a speedy response to the Ukrainian visitors, we can manage this. A huge investment in the HO woud be a start. Huge and the right calibre of person.
It does require the will to do things differently.
For what it's worth, I think the use of Hotels must be one of the worst ideas ever. Of course SERCO and the Hotel owners love the business.

The Navy should patrol the Channel and turn the boats back. These immigrants have passed through several 'safe' countries before attempting to cross to the UK, but only Britain is stupid enough to give them bed, board and spending money!! I, for one, an absolutely sick if seeing these ILLEGAL immigrants wandering out streets. They are from a different culture with different values and will never integrate with us. Many are criminals running from their crimes in their homeland. Meanwhile, the UK taxpayers are funding them whilst many UK citizens are struggling!! These immigrants are not welcome, when will the Government get the message??
This.

No, not This at all.
You mu0isunderstand the rôle of our Royal Navy
Apart from the monstrous immorality of such actions, it would be asking sailors to contravene a foundational Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulation which requires mariners to come to the rescue of anyone in distress at sea. Participants could also be liable for prosecution under international law for crimes against humanity, not to mention making the UK a pariah state in the eyes of the world. No one serving in the navy wants to be involved in such actions and most would probably refuse to be involved.

Sue, are you really in Espana? I suppose you must be an ex pat then, not an illegal?
Or an immigrant perhaps?
