Nice to know.
But as Blunkett just stated on the politics show perhaps Trump and his cronies should consider the fact that the RAF assisted with the attacks on Yemen.

I'm an American and did not vote for Trump. Our grandchild will be going to college in Canada. The Republicans are despicable. Trump, Vance, Musk and the horrible cabinet members are domestic enemies. We are enraged and sickened by what is happening and getting worse every day.

I feel for you flowers

With US tariffs now threatening the UK and the opinions of Trump and his cronies a matter of record with regard to Europe and the UK, I can only hope that Starmer and European leaders are getting together at every opportunity to discuss a future without the US and unfortunately facing years of opposition to the US which will have to be treated as a hostile nation.
Is no good saying we can’t do this without the US, that decision has already been made.

I completely agree

Been watching some USA guys on UTube looking at British and European stuff and being amazed at our history. Some of them have been astonished by some of the USA’s population’s knowledge about world geography and history. It seems that many USA citizens are parochial and practicing some extremist political and Christian beliefs.

The current Trump administration is unpleasant and rude in the extreme.

I feel sad for all those USA citizens who didn’t vote for this administration.

You’re not wrong. America has never given, lent, helped any country unless there’s something in it for them.
Nothing personal against the American people.

That’s the strangest thing. I’ve been going to the US for over a quarter of a century now and Americans as individuals are just the most generous hearted people (apart from their airport immigration staff) you could wish to meet. It clashes horribly with America as it is depicted in the media now.

I also must say that I’ve never had cause to mention the ‘special relationship’ in 25+ years of visiting the States! On the other hand, strangers have expressed their condolences for Brexit and for the queen dying while others have extolled how they love all things British. We’ve never had an adverse reaction to our Britishness.

I don't believe Americans dislike us. Not at all.

They merely have no notion to our history, what we think, how we live - apart from perhaps what they see on TV. 'Special relationship' - no.

Sue next time you go do ask about our much talked about ‘special relationship’ with America.
I am not a gambler but am willing to bet that none of them have a clue or even heard of it.
Or if you are in touch online ask. Would be interesting to find out.

I dont think they are getting ready for war. Like you say, who would be the enemy.
Plus I suspect, could be wrong, they actually realise how weak they are. And that they cant always reply on each other.
Prime Ministers change frequently. Priorities, especially financial ones, change regularly.

And if they started, where would it end.

I also think, could be wrong, that ,many countries are scared of a nuclear attack.
Again, where would that all end?

nanna8 Thu 27-Mar-25 03:53:27

Why do I get the uncomfortable feeling Europe is preparing for war ? If they do a census as in 1939 we will know for sure. Who would be the ‘enemy’ ? Not that clear but hopefully not the US. We always get dragged into European wars, too because we are weak and don’t stand on our own two feet unlike New Zealanders who are much more plucky than us.

I was terrified when cruise missiles were based here. I felt that America was just using us as a shield.

So during the Cold War you would have preferred to have no US troops or weapons in Europe.

Really, or are you a Russian yourself.

Wyllow3 Thu 27-Mar-25 01:11:20

Well we have out grumbles about expecting pain but haven't, fortunately, acquired a Trump.

imaround Thu 27-Mar-25 00:42:21

He is telling them tonex0ect pain before it gets better. And they believe him. They known it will be bad, but he promised them the Promised Land. They are good and obedient Christians who will obey. 🙄

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Mar-25 23:36:05

I don't really know when its starts affecting lots of families in pro Trump communities and it cant be lied about?

imaround Wed 26-Mar-25 23:22:44

Oh they are. A lots of conservatives are big mad about this text leak. But lots more are calling the journalist an left wing activist who made up the screen shots.

They refuse to believe their own eyes. How does one get millions of people out of a cult?

At some point surly ordinary non MAGA republicans will turn? There must be many having doubts. Or scared to say anything.

A lot of us thought Trump was very bad news before the. elections - but they've surpassed themselves not just because of policy but the way they are carrying things out.

This is from Marjorie Taylor-Greene's wikipedia page.

"On September 3, 2020, Greene shared a meme to her Facebook page depicting herself holding an AR-15 style rifle next to a collage of pictures of Ocasio-Cortez, Omar and Tlaib. She wrote that it was time for "strong conservative Christians to go on the offense against these socialists who want to rip our country apart"

It seems in America the worst of the worst have risen to power.
Their interpretation of Christianity is very, very odd.

I’ve read about this woman before and I used to read what she wrote on Twitter. An absolutely appalling woman. She has previous form.

Is obviously someone who should never say anything in public, or ever be in a job where she is with people.

If you are so inclined, here is the video of Marjorie Tayor Green's interaction with a UK based reporter. It was gross behavior, but not at all surprised it was her. So much for a "special relationship" with the UK. confused

I wish these people would crawl back into the holes they crawled out of.

Oh my goodness, that woman was just so rude. Refusing to talk to a British journalist and simply attacking her verbally like that.
Never thought I’d see that. Is just vile.
Thanks for the link imaround 👍

I think it shows what our supposed special friends actually think of us, as well as joking about people who woukd be killed and their crass stupidity in not realising a journalist there.

This. I cringe every time I hear a British politician mention 'the special relationship' as I have relatives in America, and I know that if you use the phrase there people look at you in utter bemusement - it means absolutely nothing to them.

They said on TRIP’s a while back that America says it has a ‘special relationship’ with lots of countries. One of them was, I think, Canada!

Perhaps if these idiots had used Bacon's cipher the messages might have remained secret 😁
The telescope - where would NASA be without Newton?

The Americans did invent chocolate chip cookies, thank you America.

That’s so you had something to munch on at the cinema which we invented 😂
