The UKs largest export to the USA is all types of services.

Trump hasn’t touched these.

What has astounded me in all this, is how reliant the rest of the world is, on the US. In too many ways to mention.

The US does indeed have much power[not at all sure why Trump seems to have become, and be allowed, to be a one man band ].

Perhaps we should (are?) talk to our remaining allies about protecting our services against the USA ... our perhaps our government already has.

The power comes from the fact that the states are actually 50 countries ( none smaller than a European country) working in tandem.

I wonder why we haven't thought of that. Good, and to be admired when Amrica does it, but not when we do apparently. Makes you wonder what some voters use for brains, doesn't it

It’s become apparent how much the UK has sold off what little we had to foreign interests. We are very much at their mercy now. It makes me feel vulnerable to be honest. The family silver is all but gone, we don’t produce enough food - we can’t eat wild meadow flowers - and we have a very lazy cohort on benefits who have no intention of working. Tik Tok influencers are apparently showing them excellent ways to scam the system. Birmingham continues its 4 week bin strike (didn’t they get rid of pay scales and pay cleaners the same rate as bin men?), hospitals are overrun with infestation- no money for basic hygiene measures yet plenty for rainbow lanyards. I’m glad the useless Amanda Pritchard has gone. Whitehall staff now have to take a ‘white privilege test’.

I think I need a break from the news. It’s dispiriting.

Trump will be blamed for much but a lot of it is our own stupidity.

And they only have two Countries bordering them.
One of them quite benign. In my opinion.

I’m glad we’re out of the profligate EU and I’d vote the same way, for Brexit, in a heartbeat.

One thing seems to be true is that, there isn’t an economist who doesn’t predict dire consequences for the USA or for that matter the ROW.

A example of one economic model which deals with and supports tariffs, and that is Keynesianism, but with a very large caveat, that they are used very specifically to support nascent industries and only for a very short time.

The way Trump is using tariffs as a supposed defence against other countries, makes zero sense, and it will soon become clear just how nonsensical Trumps “logic” is. The worlds economy will soon recover once he starts to back pedal. However, what will not recover is the geopolitical fallout from Trumps behaviour. USA soft power will be considerably lessened.

FGT trade between USA and Russia is currently more than that between USA and Ukraine (source Sky News online).

Yet … 10% tariffs on Ukraine and none on Russia!

FGT the telegraph article claiming a "test" is a lot of hot air shock horror Telegraph headline. The Daily Mail made a big ho-ha about it in 2021, for goodness sake. Its in the news again because Westminster council has asked its employees to take part.

It's an educative awareness questionnaire started in 2020 at the time of Black Lives Matter by the department of business and Trade.

I think the way you are representing our country is horrible and rather sad, really.

If its attempting to draw some kind of comparison with the USA as being a just, fair and free society where no one claims benefits or has difficulties with medical care or privatised utilities then go for it, as it won't get far.

Yes we all like a cheap deals and governments allow it to win votes, ignoring the long term consequences of high imports, just like allowing the US to provide our defence needs it’s an easy option, that does not mean it’s a good option
