Interestingly, Musk views some of the ‘entrenched’ government suppliers (eg Microsoft) as part of the problem and is looking to bring in more innovative, fleet-of-foot tech providers to replace them. Part of me is interested to see if this can work. I know from past experience, that the public sector has institutional barriers that inhibit use of more innovative technologies. Some good stuff might come from. But there are lots of areas of the public sector where the system really just can’t afford to fail. These guys come from an environment, where the imperative is to fail fast and move on. Getting the balance is what’s going to be really tricky.
